1 Grand Knight s Message 13 July 2010 "...we are the K of C, but now more then ever let those initials also stand for Knights of Charity..."- Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. Charity to the Community, Charity to each other Brothers, Our Columbian Year, the year of Charity, is under way. We where honored to end the last Columbian Year and start this new year by recognizing Brother Knights of Council 6345 for their long and dedicated service to this Council and the order at large. On Tuesday June 22 at our Recognition Dinner we were honored to recognize the following Council 6345 Brother Knights: For 50+ years of Service to the Order we recognized Sir Knight Phillip W. Barrood a Charter member of Council 6345 For 40 years of Service we recognized Brother Thomas J. Lombardi For 40 Years of Service we recognized Brother Michael J. Lombardi Jr. Awarded Knight of Charity for the Year Brother Michael T.Hart- Who ran the Alzheimer s, ran the Citizens with Developmental Disabilities(CWDD), Helped run the Life Rose Sale, chauffer for Charter 1 Knight Lites July 2010 Member Louis Kozma to most Council events, Usher, Outside Guard, Membership s, proposed resolution on Alzheimers Funding to the State Council and much more. Awarded Past Grand Knight of the Year Arthur M. Troccoli Jr.- Served a record 3 consecutive years as Grand Knight(06-09),Who organized and ran the Car Shows(2 within 12 months), Chairman of Keep Christ in Christmas 2009; Trustee; Finance Committee Member; Lector at Mass; 2 nd String Santa,; active to a fault(ask his wife Bridget);dedicated Dad, Husband and Son; Cornerstone 3 Spiritual Director; among the top membership recruiters in Council 6345 for the past several years; He serves the South Brunswick Community weekly on the zoning board; Weight Watchers Life Member so he looks good doing all of the above ( stay tuned PGK roast to follow). Awarded Sir Knight of the Year Sir Knight Paul F. Ruffe, DGK, FN 664- Member of the 4 th degree for almost 20 years, Active in Mnsgnr. O Grady Assembly as officer for the past 4 years, currently serving as Faithful Navigator(equivalent to Grand Knight), Deputy Grand

2 6345, For serving as mentor to our Membership Director, Active Scout Leader and Eagle Scout Mentor/Advisor for the Central NJ Council BSA, Active Member of O Grady Assembly 664 Color Corps, Dedicated Dad of teenagers, Husband, Son; Member of the St. A s Social Ministry serving as Bartender extraordinaire. Awarded Knight Steward for the Year Sir Knight Thomas J. DeLuca - One of our newest members (1 st Degree11/21/08), fast tracked to Sir Knight in record time. Consistent and outstanding service in the planning and execution of his duties as Council 6345 Warden to facilitate Council meetings, Degrees, Service Projects, Charitable drives and being the Grand Knight s Wing Man for many events on the road. Responsible for the 1st Communion Books, Raffle Baskets, Membership s, Refreshments, usher. Dedicated Grandfather, Dad & Husband. Awarded Knight Counselor for the Year Brother Thomas J. Lombardi- For dedicated service to the Council in an advisory/ mentor position to the Grand Knight and Senior Officers, for Chairing the Finance Steering Committee, for serving as Council Lecturer, for his work on the Knight Lites Staff and the Council marketing and Mailing department, for he and his Wife Pat s (a sister Columbiette)Charitable work in the tradition of St. Vincent DePaul. For being a loving Present husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and a Faithful Friend to many. Awarded the Shining Armor Award for *These were the 1 st 2 ever awarded to Brothers of Council 6345* Brother Joseph Cappelluti Brother Bruce L. Huffine The Shining Armor Award may be earned by New 1 st Degree Knights who within the first year of their membership advance to the 3 rd Degree, participate in Council meetings(2), Council activities(2), recruit a new member and meet with our Fraternal Insurance Agent Bob Jimenez. Please be sure to read the Supreme Knights message in the July issue of Columbia magazine titled Our Pilgrimage of Faith. He recounts that the Second Vatican Council called the lay faithful to seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and directing them according to God s will. 2 Knight Lites July 2010

3 This should be our mission in this Year of Charity as Catholic Men & Brother Knights so that resplendent in faith, hope and charity we may manifest Christ to others. I look forward to seeing you soon and ask that you choose an event or 2 to participate in this year in service of our families, church, community and order; get involved in temporal affairs I hope to see you Tuesday evening, August 3, 2010 at 8:30 PM for our August Council 6345 business meeting. That is our only meeting for the month of August. Vivat Jesus, Mark Kubian, SK Grand Knight St.Augustine s Council nanmark77@comcast.net To Serve, Not to be Served Finance Steering Committee Fund Report: Once again our Council has been presented with an opportunity to assist the Parish in an improvement to the infrastructure of the school, namely new stadium seating for the Gymnasium balcony. According to the Council approved guidelines for the Finance Committee, we are cleared to invest up to a maximum of seventy (70) percent of our funds. The committee has met and approved this loan to the parish. We are currently in the process of 3 Knight Lites July 2010 having a legal agreement drawn up. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to approach anyone on the committee. We are FS Bob Volner, PGK Art Troccoli Jr., GK Mark Kubian, Advocate Ed Peloquin and Recorder Joe Cappelluti. Next Meeting- August 3 8:30 PM McGivney Hall New Brothers! Welcome our new First Degree brothers Jorge Norat, James Crowley, Frankolin Cuevas & John Federico. Congratulations to Brother Mike Hart for winning the Knights in Action Award in the State Photo Contest Urgent Request for Items for US Military Personnel When wounded service personnel arrive from the field for medical procedures, often times their uniforms are stripped away or destroyed by invasive medical procedures. Consequently, personal hygiene items are in short supply. As a part of the ongoing personal items drive for deployed troops, the Middlesex County Veterans Advisory Council is soliciting donations We are serving as a

4 collection point, bring your items to any council meeting for the next number of months. The Project wounded warrior has issued an urgent request for the following items: Men s Underwear & tees (all sizes) Women s undergarments & Sports Bras (all sizes) Bath Towels Deodorant Toothbrushes Toothpaste Sensitive toothpaste Bars of Soap Sani-wipes Hand sanitizer (for active duty ops in Haiti) Bug Spray (for active duty ops in Haiti) Hard Candy (for active duty ops in Haiti) Activities: Archive Project: If you have any information on the history of Council 6345, we d like your help. PGKs Gary Schuller and Bob Volner are leading this effort for the Knights contribution to the Parish Archive. Look into your photo albums and historical documents to see if you can help us gather a comprehensive history of the Knights at St A s Car Show: June 25 Congratulations to PGK Art Troccoli for running a successful 4 Knight Lites July 2010 Car show, The weather was great the crowd was good, although somewhat smaller than expected due to the Rain date. Thanks to Tom Lombardi for Kitchen / Food Management, Tom DeLuca for the Basket Coordination, Kevin Haggerty and James Seigler for Setup and Clean up. Thanks to the Columbiettes for managing the Food Sales window. And a thanks to all the brothers who helps with the ticket and 50/50 sales!
