McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, You called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling His commandment of charity and building up His Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of Your servant prompt us to greater confidence in Your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that You glorify Your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of Your Holy Will. Consider this opportunity. Spiritual Benefits of the Guild Weekly Guild Mass Each week a special Mass is celebrated for the intentions of members of the Father McGivney Guild by Father Gabriel B. O'Donnell, vice postulator. All Souls Novena of Masses For each day between Oct. 24-Nov. 2 (All Souls Day), a Mass is celebrated by the vice postulator, Father Gabriel B. O Donnell. The Masses are offered for the deceased relatives and friends of Guild members, and petitions sent by the Guild members on behalf of deceased loved ones are placed on the altar. Novena for World Peace During the nine days preceding the feast of the Sacred Heart, which falls 19 days after Pentecost, the Guild celebrates daily Mass at various basilicas in Rome for the cause of world peace. Intentions sent by Guild members are placed on the altar for each Mass. Christmas and Easter Triduum Masses Petitions sent by Guild members are placed on the altar for Masses celebrated in Rome at Easter and Christmas. Each Triduum, or series of three Masses, draws hundreds of petitions from members of the Father McGivney Guild. Write to the Guild to have your special intentions placed on the altar and remembered at the monthly Masses, special novena, or Triduum Masses celebrated by the Guild. There is no better way to commend a sick or deceased loved one to God s merciful care. Special worries or concerns will also be included in our prayers. You can the Guild at guild@kofc.org. Four

10 UNDER THE PROTECTION OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT, THE EDITOR PROPOSES SOME QUESTIONS There are groups, individuals, organizations, politicos and other entities who express public outrage regarding the potential replacement of a retiring Supreme Court Justice. One of their concerns is that there could be a potential reversal of the Roe VS Wade decision of January, At that time the majority opinion voted to approve abortion ON DEMAND under the convoluted interpretation of the 14TH. Amendment. -- I provide the following questions regarding the issue of abortion and these comments and questions are based in logic and not of any religious zeal. The entire matter does evolve from the issue of life itself. Where do you stand and who is NORMA McCORVEY? -- What is the definition of abortion? The dictionary states: The stopping or ending of a process. What is the process in regard to pregnancy? What is contained within a pregnant woman s womb? Is that entity human or another life form? If that entity is proven by scientific means to be human, besides physical sustenance, what provides viability to that entity? If that entity is proven to be human, can this human life form be defined as an natural person? Is there one Commandment with the Ten Commandments that addresses killing? Are there civil laws that forbid killing based on this Commandment? Are the terms homicide or murder synonymous? Can one define birth or birthing as a relocation of an entity from within a womb to outside the womb? If that entity within the womb is scientifically proven to be a human person, why is it not granted the same constitutional rights as a human person existing outside the womb? Why is the term abortion applied to ending a human life within a womb or exiting the womb by birth? Why are the terms homicide or murder not applicable until after relocation or birthing? In 1973 the Supreme Court ruled in favor of abortion under Privacy rights and not under higher morality considerations. Does privacy supersede a specific Commandment or civil law? Does a pregnant woman have the right to permit or order the abolition of a life of another human person within her under the protection of the 14th. Amendment?...if and when scientific evidence proves the existence of a viable human person with the womb. What is actually seen and proven by an ultra-sound of a womb? Does that entity detected resemble a baby, a turtle, a dog or what? Why in a pre-natal care situation does a surgeon enter a womb to correct, repair or heal a problem with that life-form entity that does exist in the womb? Is that a waste of time? By what authority does a civil court or government entity determine the beginning of human life? Look up and read the 14th. Amendment! Ten
