4 Membership Director s Report (Bradley Scott): On October 12 th, our council will be hosting a 1 st Degree as well as a 2 nd and 3 rd Degree (all day event), with lunch, degrees, Mass together and then dinner) Bradley requests as much help as possible; Ed Belen will be coordinating the dinner and entertainment. Wives are encouraged to participate. A sign-up board was provided at the back of the room. So far, we have approximately 20 First Degree Knights signed up with 3 from our council. (GK Kuta suggests to all those present that we give a higher priority to committing to support our Council s events whenever we can-to look deeper into our hearts ). Bernie Kuta also has a small contingent of men going to Fr. Auer s parish (St. Mary of the Rockies) to recruit prospective Knights to a Roundtable (a subset of our council) also on October 12 th and 13 th. Fr. John still wants to be associated with our council. There is no date yet set for a First Degree at his parish; another option would be to have these potential new men to attend the First Degree at St. Mark. PGK Robert Wilson suggested that we might form up a committee of our charter members to set up a charter at Fr. John s new church. District Deputy s Report (John Lynn) John complimented our council for getting all our reports in on time. --There is a major 2 nd /3 rd Degree in North Glen in 2 weeks as well as one in Loveland in November. --Our State website is up and running with a new format including an Excel spread sheet. --John indicated an interest in supporting our upcoming roundtable at St. Mary of the Woods --no other councils participated in the Soccer Challenge; hence our District winners are all Regional winners! --Our council qualifies for Shining Knight/Council awards for the last Fraternal Year including Star Council! (meaning we reached our 7.5% recruitment quota as well as a 5% insurance/annuity quota)! Insurance Report - (Jayme Sanford) No report in the interest of time. Jayme was congratulated in helping our council earn Star Council. Committee Reports Committee Chair Rich Bowers Church (Tim Mosholder) Tim announced that our council this year will support 2 seminarians: Joshua Erickson, attending St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver and Michael Buckley who was ordained last year but who in his 4 th year at the seminary, based in Saint Louis, MO, but is a Colorado Springs seminarian. (at $500 each for books and supplies; we will also invite them to activities we host and stay in contact with them)

5 Council (Keith Lowry) Football tickets-keith stressed the importance of getting the ticket stubs back to him as soon as possible before the October 22 nd game. If you still want a ticket, contact Keith. (note: the Football raffle tickets are $10/ticket with $2 for each ticket sold coming back to the council). Next pancake breakfast is October 20th. Please contact John Wattam or Keith if you can help. Again, this is a good way for new members to become involved. There was a brief discussion about (1.) extending the pancake breakfast to include the 10:30 mass again (2.) Improving bulletin announcement/communications to advertise the pancake breakfast. Deacon Bruce stated that Fr. Frank is willing to make announcements regarding KofC fundraisers, as long as we notify him as early as possible. Anything in the bulletin needs to be in by 9:00 AM Monday mornings for the following weekend. Mass announcements need to be in by Tuesday afternoons so Fr. Frank can review them. Youth (Jason Thrun): -Council Soccer Challenge for boys and girls aged was in September 22 nd from 12-3 PM at Redstone Park. There was a low turn-out but there were 5 winners; each of the winners will receive a Knights of Columbus soccer ball. The winners were: Camryn Klein, girls 13 Morgan Wilson, girls 11 Joey Thrun, boys 11 Delaney Cicone, girls 10 and under Jack Wilson, boys 10 and under Per our District Deputy, no other councils participated in the Soccer Challenge; hence our District winners are all Regional winners! The state soccer challenge will be sometime in November. We have a team lead for the next Helper/Server Appreciation Dinner (Webb Macdonald); we are looking for volunteers to help out.(no date is set yet) Family: Matt Cassady: The next Beer and Brats hosted by the Knights will be Saturday, October 5th after the 4 PM Mass. Matt needs volunteers to step forward to help at this event. He will be out of town at a work retreat. This month s proceeds will be donated to the Ruth Borrego-Tebbe Trust fund. Ruth was struck by a severe brain injury while on vacation in Wisconsin and she is the wife of brother Knight Larry Tebbe. She is currently hospitalized in Minnesota and the family hopes to move her to a Denver hospital in the near future. Look in the Church bulletin regarding a website where individuals can donate to this trust fund individually. Pro-life: (John Lane)

6 October is Respect Life Month. There will be Rosaries 20 minutes before both the 4 PM Mass on Saturdays and the 10:30 Mass on Sundays. John is looking for volunteers to lead the Rosary at other Masses (Knights or parishioners). This Year s Christmas Party will be on December 21 st at the Sacred Heart Retreat House (2844 Lawrence St Denver, CO 80205) From last Month s Bulletin: --October 25 th is this year s Bishop pro-life dinner at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. (our council will be sponsoring a table) --Respect Life project Competition: is open to year olds as part of Bishop Sheridan s Respect Life dinner on Oct. 25 th and youth (individuals and groups) are asked to come up with a project idea to promote pro-life awareness among their peers and communities. The winner(s) of the project will get seed money from the dinner to make their project concept a reality (see parish bulletin for details). See parish bulletin for details. COMMUNITY: Tootsie Roll Drive (Mark Smith): The Tootsie Roll drive raising money for the mentally and physically challenged is being held during the month of October at various Highland Ranch sites. Mark encourages whole families to become involved (children can really help!) The money is used for a scholarship program for schools here in Highlands Ranch. The goal is to double what we made last year. He has sign-up sheets. Saturdays the drive is from 9AM-1 PM; and Fridays, from 3-7 PM. Ceremonials: Webb McDonald is in the process of turning over his lead role to Keith Lowry and asks for our support in Keith s lead as ceremonial degree team lead. Our next First Degree will be held November 7 th at 6:00 PM before the general meeting. The group gave applause to Webb for his years of service in this role. Unfinished Business Bylaws (Ex)Committee-Ad Hoc: (Terry Sandrock): The main proposed change (the first since our council was established) in the bylaws pertains to raising council members dues from $36 to $50. This would offset operating costs such as our insurance-related/administrative costs. --The other change is listed in Article VII (Funds) of our council Bylaws stating that no money in excess of $400 shall be paid or transferred from the treasury of the council (except such moneys as the Council is called upon to regularly pay for its current expenses and as provided by the Laws and Rules of the Order or for purposes approved by the Supreme Council or board of Directors), unless a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting at a regular business meeting held subsequent to a regular business meeting at which notice in writing of a resolution of intention to pay or transfer such money and the purposes and amount to be paid shall have been given and regularly read.

7 --correcting the fact that our bylaws don t state that our Council business meeting is the first Thursday of every month and the planning meetings are on the 4 th Thursday of the month. --DGK Rich Bowers proposed (as an amendment to the above 3 changes) that rather than having a $400 limit, we lower the limit to $250 limit (undocumented) (meaning that council members can still ask for more money in writing; table it for a month (make a motion at the next meeting with an explanation) and then the council votes on it. (motion seconded by Patrick McAllen). (This forces recipients to support their argument a little bit more per Rich). There is a $500 limit set by the state. More discussion followed. It was pointed out that the Angel Fund can also be used for additional emergency funds. The above bylaw changes (with Rich Bower s amendment) were approved by about 48 members with 2 abstentions. These changes will be submitted for approval to Supreme Council. Patrick McAllen: announced that the next Council 1498 dinner/auction will be at the Columbine Country Club and the theme will be back to the classic basic formal dress on Saturday, February 15 th, 2014 (the day after Valentine s Day). The committee consists of Patrick and Inga McAllen, the Hammerschmidts, the Scotts, the Belknapps, the O Reillys. Donations for the auction will be solicited from everyone who has been so generous in the past. The committee is looking into transportation to and from the country club. New Business Robert Wilson: A Julie Ginther is starting a new program at Thunder Ridge High School benefiting the mentally handicapped. Robert asks the council as to whether there is interest to support this cause. Robert will research this further and present it to the council. (There is a race involved on October 26 th from 9-12 ) Fourth Degree Report: Rich Bowers There is no up-coming nearby 4 th Degree Exemplifications in the near future. Rich encourages any Third Degree members to consider becoming a 4 th Degree member when the next proximal 4 th degree is available. FN Bowers called for a short 4 th Degree meeting after the business meeting to discuss changing the outdated 4 th Degree bylaws.
