No First Saturday Supper - Saturday, January 6th. Based on low turn-out from the previous year, we decided to cancel the First Saturday Supper this month. Saturday/Sunday January 6 th -7 th -Collect sleeping bags after all masses for the homeless (partnering with Christ in the City)-New and used sleeping bags are acceptable (contact John Whattam at jcwhat87@gmail.com with any questions) Monday, January 8 th (4pm) Help is needed with taking down/storing Christmas decorations; Daughters of Mary will be packing up during the day on Monday. Saturday, January 13 th -(10 AM), help is needed to take down our outdoor Nativity Scene Tuesday, January 15 th -11 AM - Jim Holton s funeral at St. Thomas More. Jim was our Assembly s founding member and Dave Barnett s Godfather. Whole month of January- Register at the Gala Table after Mass for our biggest fundraiser: A Knight in Shining Amore (dinner/dance and auction) held on Saturday, February 10 th in our parish hall OR register and pay online at: Auction items needed! Dress: black tie optional

2 District Mid-Year Meeting - Saturday, January 20th at 9:00 am. Officers are encouraged to attend the district meeting at St. Francis of Assisi in Castle Rock. Pancake Breakfast - Sunday, January 21st from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. If you can help with set-up, cooking, serving or clean-up, please contact Rusty Hogan at Rustyhogan@remax.net or The pancake breakfast will be served after the 8:00 am mass. Youth Free Throw Contest - Saturday, January 27th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Sand Creek Elementary in partnership with Pax Christi. If you can help with the event please contact Steve Davis at sldavis34@msn.com or Planning Meeting - Thursday, January 25th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 3 - Tim thanked all present for making 2017 a successful year. Our council provided hours of prayer and monetary support to the community, to the parish and to our members. Thank you for your dedication and selfless acts of kindness. - Tim gave a Recap of the BBQ to feed the homeless on December 9 th with Christ in the City. Close to 300 homeless folks were fed with 18 pounds of pulled pork. There were close to 100 volunteers present between our council, our church and other churches. It was a very meaningful experience and Tim highly recommends Knights consider helping out the next time we volunteer. Pennies for Heaven: collected Correspondence/Application for membership: (1.) Tim read a thankyou letter from Alternatives Pregnancy Center for our contribution to the Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative. (2.) We also received a nice Christmas card and note from one of our sponsored seminarians, Brandon Allen, for our financial support and prayers. He asked that we continue our prayers for all seminarians and priests. Recognition of New Members: --(none this month). PLEASE send volunteer hours to John by if you haven t done so by now. -The $50 membership dues are due for 2018: When paying your 2018 dues, John requests you make your check payable to St Mark, K of C #1498. You may submit your payment by either; (1) Dropping your payment in the mail slot of the Knight s cabinet located in the lower level of the church, (2) Mailing the check and a copy of this letter to K of C #1498 Financial Secretary, C/O John Joseph, St Mark Catholic Church, 9905 Foothills Canyon Blvd, Highlands Ranch CO, 80129, or (3) Bringing your payment to the next business meeting. Your 2018 membership card will be provided upon receipt of your dues. John then showed a small stack of membership cards from last year of paid members who never picked up their cards. He then showed a HUGE stack of membership cards for members who did not pay their dues last year. It is essential for members to pay their dues to keep our council successful! Membership Director Report: Applications for New Members and Transfers:

6 (1.) Mark Church- (Bernie Kuta and Chris Harden highly recommended Mark s application for new membership (2.) Luke Davis- is a transfer, recommended by Dave Barnett. (3.) Wayne Davis- is a transfer from St. Thomas More Parish (recommended by Bernie Kuta and Kurt Haneke. All three men were voted on and approved unanimously. Report of Ceremonials Keith Lowry): per Tim Mosholder, our next First Degree will be hosted at our next business meeting on February 1 st at 7:00 AM providing the candidates are able to attend on that date. Auditors and Trustees Report: - (Robert Wilson, Bernie Kuta, John Whattam): An audit needs to be scheduled in January (Per John Whattam and Bernie Kuta. (tentatively planned for last Monday in January). Field Agent s Report (Jayme Sanford)- No report REPORT OF SERVICE PROGRAM COMMITTEES (DGK Chet Elder) Church Director Dan Timmerman -Dan thanked all who helped with the advent/christmas switch- 0ver and also with the christmas Eve parking. -Dan also thanked all who helped with the Keep Christ in Christmas sales. The campaign was markedly better this year thanks in part to the advertising assistance from Juanita McDonald/St. Mark as well as being allowed in the gathering space. -Dan asked for help either in late afternoon (4 PM) on Monday, January 8 th with taking down/storing Christmas decorations; Daughters of Mary will be packing up during the day on Monday. -The That Man is You (TMIY)program Spring Semester starts Friday, January 19 th at 6 AM. -Further help is needed at 10 AM on Saturday, January 13 th to help take down the outdoor Nativity Scene

7 -Dan asked all present to consider becoming an usher; he will contact Katey Dempsey for the next training date and invite Knights to attend and become certified, if even as a sub only. Community Director Ben Mottinger (Chet discussed all the roles Ben has had including: The Tootsie Roll Drive, Christ in the city Program for the homeless, the Christmas at the Mansion event as well as our upcoming Lenten Fish Fries.) Ben was not present. Council Director Rusty Hogan Our next pancake breakfast will be on January 21 st after the 8:00 am mass; ShowTime for setup is 7 AM. Help is needed with setup, cooking and serving as well as cleanup. Rusty may plan to add bacon to the menu this time around! Family Director Kurt Haneke Kurt summarized his ministry which includes: spaghetti dinners, beer and brat s dinners, the Christmas Tree Hunt the first week in December and the Sacred Heart Advent Party the first Saturday in December. - there will be no First Saturday Supper this month due to low attendance last January. Youth Director Steve Davis per Chet-This ministry includes a basketball free-throw contest for the youth as well as a soccer challenge for ages Our council had two youth winners for the K of C Soccer Challenge at the state level. -The Youth Free Throw Contest is scheduled from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on January 27 th at Sand Creek Elementary. Culture-of-Life Director John Whattam John summarized his ministry which includes: The Bishop s Dinner for the Unborn in Colorado Springs, Knights leading the 5 th Saturday/Sunday rosaries before mass, prayer services supporting the sick, elderly and unborn, the 40 Days for Life campaign during Lent, crosses mounted on our parish grounds for the unborn (once a year); council money donated to purchase ultrasound devices. -There will be a Celebrate Life Rally at 1pm and March at 2pm at the State Capitol on January 13 th.

8 -Our council in partnership with Christ in the City has been collecting sleeping bags for the homeless. Our last collection day will be this weekend after all masses. Report of Ad Hoc Committees Knights Campout - The reservations for the 2018 campout have been made. The campout will be at Lake Dillon, August 2-5. Please contact Bernie if you can assist: daddyshands@hotmail.com.. We need a leader or coordinator for this annual event. Annual Gala Event: Kurt Haneke and Bernie Kuta-the gala will be held on February 10 th, 2018 and is a black tie optional event. The cost will be $75/person and includes dinner, a silent auction and an active auction. There are 4 new couples involved on the planning committee. The Gala will be held on the lower level of St. Mark Church; We need auction items such as sporting goods, art, rental property; ministry baskets as well as volunteer homes to host signup parties. The live paddle auction will benefit a Cheyenne Wells Mission trip this year. The trip needs a lead person and Dave Barnett has tentatively volunteered. December th was the start of our advertising the event. The committee is looking for a photographer (other than our worthy grand knight!) to volunteer for the event. They are also hoping to obtain pictures from last year- please share with someone on the committee (Patrick McAllen, Kurt Haneke, Chris Harden, Bernie Kuta or Rex Rhinehart). - The St. Mark Gala hosted by our council has the theme of: A Knight in Shining Amore. -Registration can be done one of two ways: (1.) at the Gala table after Mass. (2.) online at: -Bernie urges early registration and there is still a need for auction items which can be collected by Bernie or Chris Harden or contact meghan912@q.com. The cost is $75 per person and the menu includes smoked tenderloin or butter poached salmon as well as Mushroom Baklava. There will be a pulpit announcement on the weekend of January 20 th - 21 st. Unfinished Business: -None this time

9 New Business: (1.) John Whattam: With the tragic events of the shooting death of Zackari Parrish on New Year s Eve, John proposed that our council donate $250 to the Douglas County Fallen Officers Fund (In memory of Zackari Parrish). This motion was seconded by Bernie Kuta. Bruce Allen then proposed that we suspend our bylaws to consider giving $500 right away to this fund. (seconded by David Caton). A vote on suspending the bylaws for this donation was approved unanimously and then a vote was taken on the proposal to donate $500 and this was also passed unanimously. (2.) John Whattam: made a second proposal that our council donate $250 to purchase additional sleeping bags for the homeless (and distributed to the Christ in the City Organization). This motion was seconded by Jeremy Harris and passed unanimously. (check made out to John Whattam). John will research competitive prices for sleeping bags but may purchase from Walmart. (3.) Deacon Ed- talked about the Domestic Violence Center (2231 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO) which services 1,00 victims of domestic violence per year. The crisis center houses about 20 clients. They are in need of help painting a room and Deacon Ed passed around a volunteer sheet for volunteers. The painting sessions will occur this and next Saturday and Sunday at 8 AM. They ask volunteers to bring any paint supplies they might have including bushes, rollers and paint. Deacon then thanked our council for our $250 donation to the Military Outreach Ministry for wounded vets-our donation went to help 10 children of wounded vets. Deacon Ed told us that we now have a new deacon assigned to St. Mark! His name is Deacon Mel Cromley (his wife- Lucy). Report of the 4th Degree - Rich Starr- (sub by CC commander John Wheeler): -We had no meetings in November or December. -Several of our Assembly and Pax Christi Assembly Color Corps members participated in Fr. Bierbaum s first Saturday

10 and Sunday of Advent (Gaudete) Mass when Father wore our combined gift of Rose Vestments - December 16-4 pm Mass at St. Mark and December 17tth - 5:00PM Mass at Pax Christi). -Our next Freedom Flag posting will be on Presidents Day (February 11 th )-weather permitting. -John attended the midyear meeting at the Denver Tech Center Hyatt Regency Hotel in December (4 th Degree section) and our assembly was awarded a Civic Award for our Freedom flag project by District Master Roger Muller. -John asked for prayers for Jim Holton (our Assembly s founding member) who passed away on January 1 st. His funeral will be at St. Thomas More on Tuesday, January 15 th at 11 AM. District Deputy s Report - Bernie Kuta: -Bernie presented the Columbian Award from supreme to GK Mosholder. This award was presented to us for completely filling out paperwork on time. -We are currently at 44% of our quota a for membership for the Fraternal Year. -January 20 th is our district s midyear meeting in Castle rock. Bernie invites all council officers to attend. This is an invaluable way to share ideas with other councils. -Bernie mentioned that we need to vote on delegates for our upcoming state convention April th -tonight. Appointment and Vote on Delegates to attend State Convention on April th : 2 Delegates were nominated: Tim Mosholder and Chet Elder Both delegates were approved unanimously. 2 alternate delegates proposed were: Bernie Kuta (he accepted and volunteered) and Dave Stauber (Dave will be consulted as he was not present) Prior Awards presented to: none Family of the month - The Family of the Month is very active within the parish. This Knight received his first degree in December His family is involved in activities that include: teaching 2nd grade sacramental preparation, pastoral council member, serving as altar servers at weekend and daily mass as well as singing in the youth choir.

11 The Family of the Month is awarded to Amanda & Eric Windholz Family. Knight of the Month The Knight of the Month received his first degree in December 2017 and has been very active with several council activities. This knight volunteered his time with Christmas setup in the church. He assisted with setup and cleanup at the Knights Advent Party and helped with parking assistance on Christmas Eve. He is also the newest member on the formal gala committee. The Knight of the Month is awarded to Mike Sacamono.
