3 Grand Knight s Report GK Bowers: -Rich gave a summary of the Pennies for Heaven campaign detailing where the state funds are being utilized. This program relies solely on the different councils support. This past year, the councils contributed over $14,142 bringing the 25 year history of this fund to over $222,000. -the mid-year KofC convention will be held on December at the Denver Crown Plaza Convention Center. The state KofC organization strongly recommends attendance by the Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and membership Director. -Rich reminded those present of the upcoming major degree our council will be hosting at St. Mark on November 7 th. We will need full participation of our council members to support this. It will be a full day event. Set-up starts at 9 am and registration at 10 am. We especially need help starting at 3:30 to setup for dinner, serving and clean-up. We will need waiters in black pants and white shirts to serve dinner, PLEASE consider volunteering for the event. -The minutes of preceding meeting were: Approved as published. Pennies for Heaven: collected Chaplain s Report (Fr. Frank): Fr. thanked the coordinators and volunteers making the chili cook-off a huge success, especially in concert with our Parish s Ministry Fair. Fr. proposed the dates of October th for our rd annual chili cook-off. We need to get this date scheduled on the parish calendar at the parish planning meeting held in April Father indicated that he wants to work closer with our council regarding our big fund raisers, balancing the spiritual and the good works needs and functions of our parish and council. We must be united in our respective roles. Father is currently spending much of his time evaluating the recent survey regarding the efficacy of continuing support for St. Katherine Drexel School. St. Mark spends $20,000 per year to support the school which currently averages only 1.5 students only at the kindergarten level. Pax Christie, which currently houses the school, is going through some big transitions with 5 pastors in 6 years. Both parishes are studying the data (from the interviews of parishioners from both parishes) in order to make a final decision as to whether it is efficacious to continue this support at this time. In summary, Fr. Frank wants to be able to promote our fundraisers (especially the upcoming Gala), and he promises to do so as time allows; but communication between our council and Father is essential. Correspondence: (1.) Rich read a letter from Dominic Byrne, thanking us for the award money given him for the Faithfilled Patriotism and Stewardship essay contest he entered and won. (2.) JDRF sent us letters thanking us for our support of the Staley and Knox families - Notices of Application: none Treasurer s Report (Bruce Allen) as of 10/3/2015 BofW Checking $41, BofW Savings 18,563.92

This will allow participants in our fundraisers to buy tickets or items through this account. The account has been set-up as approved by our council. Financial Secretary s Report - (Ed Belen) Ed stressed that any unexplained money left in the cash box must have a note attached to it or else an should be sent to him explaining the extra cash. Auditors and Trustees Report (Bernie Kuta) Bernie stressed how important it is for us both as Knights and parishioners to get involved this Advent and Christmas supporting our parish activities. Ceremonials: (Keith Lowry) the next First Degree is planned for Thursday, December 3rd at 6:30PM. Keith Stressed again how we need all available council members to help in this Saturday s (November 7 th ) major degree! So far, we have 25 candidates and about 20 guests. We need to finalize the final numbers by tomorrow at the latest. Lecturers Report (Good of the Order) (Christopher Harden): Chris gave an excellent lecture on the Saints and suggested, we as Knights, think of people in our history who have changed our lives, both living and deceased. He stressed what a blessing Saints are to our faith and urged us to pray to our Saints and also to venerate them and not to take them for granted.. Committee Reports Committee Chair Tim Mosholder Membership: (Keith Lowry): Our only standing application for First Degree is currently Decker Lazzeri (son of Brother Knight Dan) who was approved unanimously last month. Church (John Park-) December 22 nd is our all-day date to decorate our church inside and out. He and Fred LeBrun mentioned that it is important to rent a lift for installing the garlands and tall Christmas trees (to prevent accidents.) Also, participating members will need to sign a waiver of liability, per our archdiocese. Fr. Frank asked John to consider erecting a 10 foot artificial Christmas tree in the rectory. John mentioned how our council raised $1400 through the generousness of donors at our Chili cook-off! These funds will help support our two existing seminarians and other seminarians yet unnamed by Fr. Frank.

7 Youth (Steve Myer) (not present) we will advance 5 council winners to the State Soccer Challenge. (Including Brother Knight Doug Wise s 2 sons and one daughter) in Thornton on November 14 th. Family: (Bernie Kuta): (1.)Bernie gave a summary of our October 10 th chili cook-off which was a fund-raiser for Seminarian support. -18 chili cooks entered; we had about participants and cooked 48 hamburgers and 50 hot dogs. Beer and wine was provided. Judges were Fr. Greg Bierbaum, State Deputy Jim Caffrey, GK Rich Bowers and Lisa Belen. Jim Butler was the winner with his Car Trunk Chili. The second place winner was Carlo Turchiano (smoked Brisket Chili). There were a total of 12 volunteers and 60 hour volunteer hours the council expense was $320; $ was collected with a net profit of $ ; retreat donations of $188 and net support to Seminarians $ (2.) Activities for Advent and Christmas: The annual Christmas Tree Hunt will be held Saturday, December 5 th open to the whole parish and Knight families. Winter-time picnic items will be provided. Our Annual Christmas Party will be held on December 19 th at the Sacred Heart Retreat House in Sedalia. Bernie is looking for a lead to coordinate this! Fr. Frank has offered to coordinate the Mass. (3.)Bernie needs help adding additional much to our church grounds, Saturday, November 28 th. (4.)December 24 th -Father Frank needs help setting up the downstairs for Christmas Eve Masses. Scheduled Mass times: 4 pm, 4:30 pm(downstairs), 8 pm, midnight; Christmas day- 9 am and 11 pm. OTHER DATES: Robert Seidel: reminded us that our own Bishop Sheridan will be here November 5 th at 6:30 pm to speak; topic is: God s Gift of Marriage. Also, on November 17 th, 7 pm, Dr. Edward Sri will speak on The New Evangelization and the Extraordinary Mission of our Times. KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS SALES (John Park): starts the first week in Advent; tables will be set up downstairs. Poster contest for children aged 6-8; calendars with top 4 posters used on calendars. Community: Mark Smith: (Mark excused)-per Tim there is an upcoming event where local boy scouts will be passing out Tootsie Rolls to again help folks with intellectual disabilities on Nov. 11 th from 3-7 pm. The Highlands Ranch Metro district is asking our council to provide food at the Highlands Ranch Mansion on December 5 th. An will be forthcoming to remind us of this event. Standing Committee/The Formal: John Park The planning committee consists of: the Staley s, Cahill s, Lowry s, Hardin s and Park families. The Marriot Hotel in the Denver Tech Center will host the Gala. The next planning committee meeting at the Park s home will be at 7:30 pm this coming Friday and again next Friday. The committee is looking for ideas for auction items; specifically, live auction items. John urged those present to contact folks who donated silent auction items last year to consider again donating. The planning committee is still developing the theme. Donations are needed! The event needs to be put together essentially before Thanksgiving due to Advent and Christmas activities. There will be a DJ as well as dancing. John also suggested we start organizing tables for the event (inviting people per table). Keith Lowry mentioned how he has spoken to Fr. Frank about reaching out to other poor parishes in our archdiocese as well as to the archdiocese of Pueblo and possibly helping them out with proceeds from our fund-raisers.

8 Council Director: (Eric Obergfell): The next pancake breakfast is scheduled for November 15th, 2015 after the 8:00AM mass. Eric also asked those present if there is further interest in obtaining Council shirts. Contact him if interested. Per Eric, Jason Thrun has designed a nice PDF Advent calendar to be available to buy during Advent along with the Keep Christ in Christmas items. The proceeds from this calendar will support youth programs. As we did last year, there will be a poster contest and the top 4 posters will be added to this calendar. Pro-life: (Chet Elder): Chet gave a report on the annual Respect for Life Dinner held on Monday, 26 October 2015 at the Broodmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. He thanked those knights who attended. The key-note speaker was Melissa Ohdem, who herself was a saline-injected abortion survivor. Her story was a moving speech regarding God s redeeming love and forgiveness and how God saved her life for a purpose. Unfinished Business: The resurfacing of the lower level floors (quote of $1,225) was again tabled due to other upcoming expenses. A discussion again took place on the ongoing effort to move KoC 1498 items out of the St Mark kitchen and pantry area. As part of this effort, there may be a need to replace the dilapidated exterior shed (10 x10 ) with 2 sized 10 foot by 12 foot sheds, Brother Tim Mosholder has finalized with Home Depot (his employer) that they are willing to sell us Tough Sheds at a discount. Here is the proposal: Sundance TB 10X12 shed (120SF) Regular Base Price ($2,819); Sundance TB x12 shed (120 SF)-Kit price ($2,396.15);25% discount saving: $ each. Upgrades in quote: two 8X16 Wall Vents- $34; smart Floor upgrade-$120-3/4 treated tongue and groove floor decking; Dimensional shingles-$120-lifetime warranty shingles. Total savings for two 10X12 sheds: $1,325.20; order total, $4, with tax of $243.04; total balance: $5, (including delivery). (paint not included) John Park (last month) proposed that our council donate $5,000 to construct 2-10 X12 sheds. (This was seconded by Bernie Kuta). The motion was tabled last month. Bernie Kuta tonight, amended this proposal to include the above upgrades for the quoted price above of $5, The motion was seconded and after a brief discussion (is a foundation included?-no), the amended motion was passed unanimously. The shed will hopefully be delivered by next weekend and help will be needed to construct it. Fr. Frank gave his stamp of approval for these two new sheds and also stated that we may leave the 3 rd (old shed) standing. NEW BUSINESS: No new business was discussed. 4th Degree Report: (Dave Barnett): Faithful Navigator Dave asked that all 4 th degree knights remember to attend the next meeting on December 1 st at 8 pm, following our next planning meeting. A Rosary will be prayed before this meeting as in the past. The meeting last month was not held as we did not have a quorum of 4 th Degree Knights. Field Agent s Report: (Trent Davis): Not present District Deputy Report (John Lynn): Not present.
