2 OUR GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT My Brother Knights, Our annual Dues statements were mailed out December 15, 2014 and 2 nd notices were mailed out January 31, For those Brothers who paid their dues on time, thank you for being prompt. I ask all Brother Knights who have not paid their dues please remit them as soon as possible. This revenue is a major source of income that enables the Council to do all of our charitable works. All Brother Knights need to be in good standing with the Council. On January 31 st I attended the Grand Knight Meeting in Columbia, SC with DGK Tim McGraw, Treasurer Bob Leewe and Financial Secretary Jim Adee. The Council received a Recognition of Achievement from State Deputy Frank Davis for our Bishop s Guatemala Ultrasound Initiative program. We were 100% of goal. Our Polish Dinner Dance was a huge success. I want to thank John Luse and Ken Hein for their leadership. I also want to thank all the brother Knights and wives who worked to make this event successful. As usual we were sold out. Please mark your calendars to attend Irish Night, Salute to the Irish, on March 14, Karen and Karl will be back to entertain us. There will be plenty of Corned Beef & Cabbage to enjoy and you can do the Irish Jig if you want to. Please get your reservations in early. I want to thank Ken Pankowski for his effort in the Council Unity & Fraternity Mass that was held on Sunday February 15 th. We all went to breakfast after Mass and enjoyed good fellowship. On February 14 th we hosted a 2 nd & 3 rd Degree exemplification for the State. It all came off without a hitch. I want to thank the Council for their effort in the State Charity Raffle. We were able to submit $1, to the state. As a result, we will receive $ rebate in cash to be used towards our Council Charity programs. Thank you to Chancellor Joe Lynch for coordinating this program. On February 11, 2015 the Council donated $ dollars to the St. Michael School Library program. They are in the process of enhancing their Library selection of books and upgrading their Library. The Council was very happy to be able to assist in that endeavor. At our February Rosary night PGK John Fry presented the Operation Hope checks to all the Schools designated by the Council that have special education programs (ARC and Special Olympics Etc.) This enables the kid s additional opportunity to enjoy special functions and other educational opportunities. It was an evening to remember, a very emotional time. I am very proud of this Council for their time and effort that they put into this Operation Hope program. Thank you to Council 8980 and PGK John Fry, for his leadership. Remember the South Carolina Men s Conference is scheduled for March 7, You will need to pre register for this event. Pick up a flyer or call me if you need further information. 6 The 2014 Operation Hope Tootsie Roll Campaign was a banner year. We achieved an extraordinary annual Operation Hope collection in 2014 exceeding $21, This represents a 6.5% increase over We distributed Tootsie Rolls & accepted contributions at Eleven (11) Retail Locations and Two (2) Church collections. This banner year was the direct result of the dedicated efforts put forth by 103 Members of K of C Council 8980 providing over 908 Charitable Service Hours. We offer a tip of the hat and applaud those 103 Members for another outstanding year of hard work. The leadership, hard work and dedication was provided to these Members by our Store Captains. Each year we kick off our Annual Campaign with the Spring St. Michael Church collection. This kick off is led by Co-Chair / Captain Don Maher. The Spring St. Michael Church collection is especially important as it sets the bar for rest of the season. We are especially blessed to receive the generous support provided by our parish family as they, through the two church collections, provided over 15% of total collections. Our Store Captains were recognized and received Cards of Appreciation from Chairman John A. Fry Our store Captains were Dave Kriebel, Earl Chester, Don Buscher, Jack Wagner, Rick Pressley, John Avarella, Ray St. Michel, John Blair, Ken Pankowski, Melville Libby, Dominic Falcone and Honorary Captain Joe Mason Sr. as he provided support through the placing of Tootsie Rolls & Collection Mason Tire in Surfside. The evening concluded with words of appreciation from Grand Knight Gil Cushing and all enjoyed a tasty fair of refreshments. SPECIAL VISITORS We had two special visiting Knights at our Rosary in February. They are David Roy, State Deputy from the State of Maine and Phil Lizotte, the Immediate Past State Deputy of the State of Maine. They are vacationing in our area and they along with their wives decided to see what we were all about. They were impressed on the turnout for the Rosary and the program which followed when PGK John Fry distributed checks to the local schools which have programs for children with Special Needs. This money is the money that we, the members of St. Michael Council raise on our Operation Hope Drives. We hope they come back next year when they vacation here in our area. CRUISE UPDATE!!!!!! TRUSTEE: SK RICHARD ROGERS REGIONAL MARSHAL: SK CHARLES VANDEMARK CORP COMMANDER: SK DON MAHER Sir Knights of Assembly 2107 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE The month of March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Seasons change and so do you. The only thing that we can count on in life is change. We went from radio to TV, from B&W TV to Color TV, from tubes to LEDs. As we progress thru our lives, we change too. So does the Church and the environment around us. Our Assembly By-laws have not been updated or changed since The Officers and Trustees have agreed to change our current By-laws. There are three changes and there is written notification on the next page of this Newsletter. These changes will be voted on at our March Meeting. There is one other change that I would like to see in our Assembly. As I look out over the podium at our Monthly meeting, I see most of our Senior Sir Knights always seating and socializing together. I see our new Sir Knights huddling together by themselves. The Protocol Handbook for the Knights of Columbus states that The Officers should mingle with the members before and after the meeting In addition, new members and those who seem to feel uneasy should be approach by the officers and made to feel at home and welcomed. The membership will then follow the leaders example. So let s greet everyone that comes to our meetings and let s make them feel good for being part of our Assembly Please say Prayers for Mike Gray and Mike Butryn and Bob Josefek who have been in the Hospital recently.
