2 OUR GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT My Brother Knights, We hope everyone had a great Halloween. November brings cooler temperatures, and as we move into the month of November it is a time to reflect on all our blessings. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We need to give thanks to our Lord for our blessings and always think about those who are less fortunate. This is the time of year to increase our support to those less fortunate, visit a sick friend, visit a patient in a Nursing Home, increase your offering to the Church, volunteer for one of the many Council charitable programs, spend an hour in adoration, Smile, make a visit to the Diocesan Shrine with your family, and show a positive caring attitude to all. Our Memorial Mass is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 7:00PM. This is a Mass for the Repose of Souls of our deceased brothers. Please plan on attending. We will have a social following the Mass. A Mass of Thanksgiving was said by Fr. Javier Heredia, our former Seminarian, now an ordained priest, at St John Newman in Columbia, SC. It was a very special Mass. The Council presented a beautiful Chasuble to Fr. Javier. A big thank you to all brother Knights who attended the Grand Strand Citizen for Life, Life Chain, on October 5 th. Out of eighty five who attended, twenty eight were members of our Council. I am so proud of that. On October 6 th, we held the Soccer Challenge with the kids of St. Michael School. The kids had a great time and the winners are eligible to advance to the District Shootout. Our Coats for Kids have been ordered and we will partner with Catholic Charities again this year. Mark your calendars to attend the Council Christmas Party on Sunday, December 7, We will celebrate the birth of Christ. I want to thank PGK John Fry and all the team captains as well as all the Knights for their hard work during Operation Hope. We exceeded our Goal and that is something to be proud about. Thank You Council Our October social was a blast. I have never seen so many nerds, greasers and poodle skirts in my life. Karen and Karl were great and the ole Malt Shop was hopping. We will conduct a membership drive in the month of November. It is the responsibility of every Knight to ask a Catholic gentleman to join the Knights of Columbus. We need to continue to grow the Council and enhance our membership. Remember to carry your rosary at all times and pray it often. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. Vivat Jesus Gil Cushing, Grand Knight Requested Donation to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School Brother John Blair has requested from the Council a $ donation for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton High School. The motion will be brought to the Council for discussion and vote on November 6, Please attend the next Council meeting. Your vote is needed. Gil Cushing Grand Knight

5 WORLDWIDE KNIGHTS CHARITY Knights contributed 70.5 million volunteer hours in 2013 and also donated $170 million. The hours work out to about 38 hours/year for each Knight. How do we stack up in Council 8980? RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2014 Out of the 85 people who attended the Respect Life Chain, 28 were members of Council (one third) Members who attended are: John Luse Gil Cushing David Kennedy Fr. Respect Life - Life Chain October 5, 2014 Council 8980 The 50's Dance We had a great turnout for the 50's dance, we received so many compliments on how the dance was so much fun for everyone. Although there was a chance that we were not going to have the dance due to a new regulation (we needed a one day liquor license). This challenge was faced by our Worthy Grand Knight Gil Cushing and after a great deal of work,by Gil, we were able to proceed with our dance. The one flaw that we did have was that we received quite a few requests for tickets after the closing date. We were unable to take these requests, because we had already ordered the food for the affair. So in closing make sure everyone gets their tickets to the up coming Polish Night and then the most popular " The IRISH dance". Thank you Larry Berry ROSARY SCHEDULE/MEMORIAL MASS This coming month, on Thursday November 20 th at 7:00 pm in St. Michael Church in place of the Rosary we will have our Annual Memorial Mass when we remember all of our members who have died. Make every effort to attend as we remember all our Brother Knights who help make the Council what it is today. Following the Mass we will have a presentation by the 4 th Degree Honor Guard who will conduct a flag folding ceremony. They have been practicing this ceremony and have given it several times to different groups. When the Flag Ceremony is complete we will go to PAC Hall for refreshments and fellowship. Remember, your wives, family members and neighbors are all invited to attend each month. K of C

TRUSTEE: SK RICHARD ROGERS REGIONAL MARSHAL: SK CHARLES VANDEMARK CORP COMMANDER: SK DON MAHER Sir Knights of Assembly 2107 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus was established on Feb. 22, 1900, on the principle of Patriotism love for and devotion for one s country. The Fourth Degree Knights focus the majority of their activities on this principle. Yet, it should be remembered that the Fourth Degree is an important part of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic family, fraternal, service organization. Nurturing a spirit of fraternalism within our Assembly is a vital aspect of the work of the Fourth Degree. Our fraternal obligations belong not only to our Assembly, but to all the Fourth Degree Knights in our National organization. We are all Brothers in our Knighthood. Recently we were asked by the family of a Sir Knight from a Different Assembly to participate in his Funeral Mass at St Michael. This Sir Knight was 91 years old, had been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 62 years. He was a Past Faithful Navigator and a Captain of his Honor Guard. He was never a member of our Assembly. But he had lived here in South Carolina for some time and did not attend our meeting because of ill health in his later years. It was the opinion of some of our Sir Knights, that since he was not a member of our Assembly that we should not provide an Honor Guard at this Funeral Mass. As I previously stated above, we are all Sir Knights in our National Organization. So, since his Family had requested our Honor Guard to participate I felt that we were obligated to respond in kind. The Honor Guard showed up and the Family was very appreciated for our presence. Brothers are Brothers, no matter where we lived or died. Kudos for the Month of Oct. 2014: 1) Honor Guard Captain Donald Maher and Members of his Honor Guard for participating in Brother Sir Knight Thomas J. McArdle Funeral Mass. 2) Brother Sir Knight Domenico Falcone and his Volunteers for repairing and replacing the US Flags needed to be placed on Veterans Graves at Hillcrest Cemetery. 3) Brother Knights Rick Presley, Steve Jacko and Myself for helping out at the Veterans Resource Center in Little River, SC. 4) To all the Sir Knights, to include Father Ed, that showed up at our October Business Meeting. There will only be an Officers meeting in November. There will be no Business Meetings in November and December, due to Thanksgiving and Christmas falling on the fourth Thursday of each month. As the Apostle John said How can a man say that he loves God if he hates his Brother.
