2 OUR GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT My Brother Knights, With the holiday season and the end of 2015 right around the corner I use this time to do a little soul searching, asking myself what kind of person have I been this past year, and did I do enough. We all have the opportunity through our Council to do good work, including volunteer hours and financial giving. One of my favorite charities will be coming our way soon, Coats for Kids, the chairman is Jim Wood and I m sure we will all support this great gift of charity, to cloth those in need. Grace is in your soul, you can increase it by every supernaturally good action you do: receiving Communion, saying prayers, performing the corporal works of mercy. We all need grace to shield against the strength of the devil, the more grace we have the weaker Satan s presences becomes. Volunteer for an hour a month and see how grace will enter your life. Our council s charities can be a place to gain this grace. A big thank you to Mike Labak for the job he did organizing and running the parish picnic, it was a fun day with many young families attending, we were able to recruit two new Knights. Also, thanks to all the Knights who helped with the setup, the parking, the cooking, the beer wagon, and the cleanup. The knights did a great job and showed a large positive presences at the picnic. Not only is life about helping others, but it also about having fun in fellowship and comradery, which promotes unity. The Knights are advertising spaces still available for a cruise to the Panama Canal, taking place this coming March Take a look at page 7 for more information or call Ken Hein at , or John Luse at Join us for fun and sun as we cruise the high seas! Our 50 s dance was a success this past month, fun being had by all twisting the night away. Larry Berry led a group of Knights who put on an entertaining night filled with food and spirits and hours of dancing. Thanks to all those Knights who helped make the night special which helps to fund our charity coffers. We raised over $300 in the seminarian fund jars, again. Thank You! Coming December 6th is our annual Christmas party at Duffy Hall from 2pm to 5pm. (See pg. 9) All Knights and significant other are invited. It s free, and we just ask that each person bring an unwrapped toy for underprivileged kids. There are rumors that Santa Claus will be there, but I heard he lost a lot of weight but also that he is still his jolly self. Please consider coming and celebrating the most wonderful time of the year! Need all reservations in by November 30th, please call John Luse, Ken Hein or Aelred Periera. daily for each other and our Council. And when you count your blessings and give thanks, enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends! INDEX OF CONTENTS Announcements: Adoration, Birthdays, Good of the Order. MICHEL FAITHFUL INNER SENTINEL: SK DAVID KENNEDY YEAR TRUSTEE: SK DENNY LACZO YEAR TRUSTEE: SK BERNIE LODRICK CORP COMMANDER: SK DON MAHER Brother Sir Knights; On 10 October, we had three members from Council 8980 make their Fourth Degree at the 72ⁿ Exemplification at St. Andrew s in Myrtle Beach. Our new brothers are SK Mike Berry, SK Jim Needham and SK Scott Tyler. Please make sure to congratulate them and welcome them to our Assembly. Also at this Exemplification, SK Stan Beilewicz, SK Bob Josefek, and SK Al Stirling were recognized in Memoriam. Remember, a brother knight is never forgotten. At our meeting on 22 October, three separate motions were made, seconded, and passed by a vote of our Assembly. We will be making donations to the American Legacy Fund, and to Wreaths Across America. The Legacy Fund provides scholarships for the children of any service member who was killed in action since 11 September Wreaths Across America places a wreath on every veterans grave interred in every National cemetery in America. This year the laying of the wreaths will take place in early December. Finally, it was decided to purchase a support banner in the Duffy Center to help out our St. Michael sports teams. The spreading of patriotism starts with our children, and this will give us a visible presence in the school. Also, at our meeting, it was discussed that the Committee for Religious Freedom is in need of more help from members of our parish. Anyone who is interested just has to show up at their monthly meeting which is held on the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:00 PM in PAC hall. Please consider this worthy endeavor. American flags will be placed on all veteran s graves in Hillcrest Cemetery on 9 November at 8:30 AM and removed on 18 November at the same time. There are close to 1700 vets buried here, and the more help the better. Usually, the placement of flags takes about an hour, and the removal even less time. Please help if you can. Hillcrest is located on Route 544 across from Coastal Carolina s football stadium. There will be a Veteran s Day ceremony and remembrance at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on 11 November at 11:00 AM. Patriotic groups from all across the Grand Strand participate, including all five 4th Degree Assemblies. If you ve never seen this ceremony, it s really quite moving. Finally, Happy Thanksgiving to all our brother knights and their families. It s a good time to remember the many blessings we have received, and to pray for all who are less fortunate.
