2 Pastor s Paragraphs October is here already. Again we see the leaves start to change colors, temperatures are cooling off, autumn has arrived. The earth is preparing to rejuvenate, preparing to welcome another year and to rest. God gives us the Sabbath for rest and rejuvenation, in fact he commands it. Rest is important not only for our physical body but also for our mind and our spirit. It is a time to honor God. We are created in God s own image, and God rested on the 7th day and so we too should rest. God never needs rest Himself, so why would God take a day off if not to set a pattern for His people? By the seventh day God finished the work that he had been doing, and he ceased on the seventh day all the work that he had been doing. 3 God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he ceased all the work that he had been doing in creation. Genesis 2:2-3 "You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but on the seventh day you must stop working, even during the seasons of plowing and harvest. Exodus 34:21. For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a Sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work; it is a Sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings. Leviticus 23:3 Once a week we must rest even in harvest time. All worldly business must give way to that holy rest. We must show that we prefer our communion with God, and our duty to him, before the business of work. The Sabbath is a time to remember and to thank God for all that He has done for you. We are encouraged to rest and remember that we are not meant to simply work without a break. We are meant to do other things such as relax and laugh and enjoy our families. Such activity is not simply good for our spiritual lives but also for our relationships and our physical lives, as it helps us to relax and reduce our tensions and stresses. I encourage each of you to try and slow down and take the time to rest. We are all so rushed and so busy. God commands us to rest because He loves us and He knows what s best for us! May God give us the strength to rest! And glory be to God forever AMEN. Pastor Bailey Stewardship Sunday October 16 Guest Speaker Reverend Jeff Regan Reverend Regan is from the United Methodist Foundation and will be speaking at both services. Caring from Within The friends and family of RUMC pray God s peace be with Howard Hicks and family. Howard s brothers passed away recently. Henry Hicks on June 26 and Russell Hicks on September 3. You are in our prayers. Romeo United Methodist Church Page 2

With the help of the Red Bird Mission and our generous members it is my hope to collect new clothes for the children in Beverly Ky. at the Beverly UMC. My plans are to collect new clothes and deliver them in person in April I am working with someone and he has confirmed the need and what a help this would be for the children. Now is the perfect time because there are clothes everywhere on clearance. I have purchased 3 outfits already. We will have seven months to collect. It would be for either boys or girls of school age. More details to follow including local history, their needs and history of the church I am working with. We would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and the beautiful gifts that we received on Sunday August 28th. We continue to look for a house that will be our new home, but are looking forward to putting the painting and wooden cross up on the walls. The cross necklaces is so pretty. I have always wanted the Willow Tree Nativity Set and can't wait to put it out at Christmas. Again, thank you for your love, prayers, and kind words during our transition and over the past 4 years. Always, Danny, Erin, and James Lane Thanks in advance for your support and my hope to bring smiles to the kids. i Gayle Beitel Caring from Within The friends and family of RUMC pray God s peace be with Jennifer Chesnick and family. 6 The Peach Festival Parade is over Fall is Here! What a great morning our Church family had, walking or riding the Trolley in the Children s Parade. The Children s Parade theme was The Jungle. Our entry Theme: Floating Down the Amazon Catching Fish, RUMC children are shown catching fish, but in the Biblical sense, Christ wanted men to become Fishers of Men Our Theme was created by: Joseph Zaiglin going into 3 rd grade. Children wore their fishing hat, white t-shirt and brought their fishing pole with their favorite fish attached. Laura Zaiglin and Linda Zimmerman created card board boats for the children to wear. The trolley decorations were designed by Laura Zaiglin and David Schenburn. Dave Zaiglin and Marty Wagester walked and carried the church banner. Susan Demil was in charge of attendance, name tags and guided us onto the trolley with our poles and our candy bags. Both Laura and Susan took great photos of our outreach in this community experience. The Parade Planning Team: David & Laura Zaiglin, The Zimmerman Family, Susan Demil, TheWagester Family, and David & Linda Schenburn. Our entire church family is very grateful for your participation and enthusiasm. That is a true sign of leadership! To all a job well done! With GOD S GRACE AND YOUR HELP ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Romeo United Methodist Church Page 6

So start collecting toys, school supplies, hygiene items and anything a child would love. Remember everything must fit into a standard size shoe box. Further information will follow in the weeks ahead. Call Linda Klusendorf if you have any questions. Special Performance Sunday October 9 At Both Services The musical, 567, is a meshing of the great thoughts, feelings and heart from the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5, 6 and 7, and mingles in current insights and the occasional contemporary twist. When music, heart, humor and message join forces, you have entertainment with great inspiration. 567: go tell it from the Mount is a contemporary look at the universal proclamation of Jesus with current applications an hour of insight and delight for the entire family. 8 Crazy Quilt Style Table Runner Class Come make a 36 table runner in the crazy quilt style. Ever since the crazy quilt pillows class, there has been a request to bring back the teacher and make a table runner. Teemie Eschenburg will begin teaching this class on Tuesday, October 11 th from 7 to 9 p.m. for 6 weeks. The cost of this class is $ Registration can be made through Naomi Stasak at or by contacting the church office. The individualized instruction causes this class to accept only 10 students and will make everyone see themselves as a very exceptionally creative person. Students will be encouraged to try more advanced stitching if they feel it will enhance their project. If there is a need, Teemie will teach an extra class on color theory, choosing fabrics, and how designs and colors complement each other. Teemie Eschenburg is a published artisan. Her 30 years of teaching with fabrics and embroidery began early by learning the techniques from eldery family members. She has taught classes in Columbia Quilt Shop, Quilt and Friend Shop, Attic Quilt Shop, The Pincushion Shop as well as in her own studio. John N. Gruber November 7, 1937 to September 26, 2016 John N. Various authorities attribute it to either Scottish or Irish origin. However, it seems clear that it was used as a lantern by people who traveled the road this night, the scary face to frighten away spirits or faeries who might otherwise lead one astray. Set on porches and in windows, they cast the same spell of protection over the household. (The American pumpkin seems to have forever superseded the European gourd as the jack-o-lantern of choice.) The United Methodist House is a shelter for women and children and is in need of repairs. Romeo UMW would like to make a donation of $100 to help with repairs but would like input and approval from you. If you have any questions, or feel we should not support this mission, please Sandy Edwards at redwards5191@gmail.com. United Methodist Community House Collections at District Annual Meeting If you were at the District Annual Meeting last October, you will remember that, in addition to the regular pledge service, we also took up a collection for the Community House to help with repairs. The President of Detroit Conference, Micki Phelps, indicated, if each member were to contribute $4.00 per year, this would meet any obligation that the women of the Detroit Conference has for this National Mission Institution. I am proud to say that Blue Water District raised over $1000 toward repairs to the Community House! So As our main speaker this year is Rose Simmons from the Community House, we will be taking up another collection for them. Monies collected will be used for much needed repairs. You can all help out with their programs by bringing some of the items listed below. This is in addition to the items that we send to Cass Community Social Services. Any check should be made out to Blue Water District United Methodist Women (make sure you designate for repairs ). There will be some collection plates for this donation, use either checks or cash. The Community House is owned by the United Methodist Women and that is why we need to help out at this time. 13 Get Grounded When you're feeling frustrated with your middle schooler, keep these facts in mind. Middle school is also one of the hardest times in a growing child's life. The biggest struggle I hear is that the expectations from parents get so much bigger, but the kids still feel stuck between little kid and big kid. Make sure your expectations are in line with good mental health. What are your expectations based from...fear? Other people's expectations? What your parents did? Life isn't a race, take care of your child's heart and mind before you take care of expectations. Submitted by: Linda Schenburg D.E.L.T.A.
