2 Pastor s Paragraphs I invite each of you to attend OUR Church Council meetings. They are held monthly, the date and time are in the bulletin. What are Church Council meetings you ask? Let me start by explaining what the church council is. The church council is responsible for creating and sustaining the congregation s plan for discipleship. Christian discipleship is the process by which disciples (each of us) grow in the Lord Jesus Christ Bishop Michael Coyner of the Indiana Episcopal Area offered this definition: A DISCIPLE is a person who experiences the forgiveness and acceptance of God, follows the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit, and who shares in the life and witness of a community of disciples, including Baptism and the Lord s Supper, serves in some form of ministry every day, participates in God s suffering and transformation of the world, anticipates a future life in the presence of God, and who thereby yearns to lead others to become disciples. At our monthly council meetings programs and activities are discussed. What is Romeo UMC s vision for the future and how do we get there? What is effective for our church and how can we improve. These things are achieved by listening to God, and by listening to you. Each of you have your own way of becoming closer to God that works for you. By sharing your ideas, you may be able to bring someone else closer to God. There are as many ideas as there are people. I am rejoicing in the many ways God blesses us and the call of God to take our blessings and pass them on. We live in a world where there is much trouble with wars, terrorism, famine, and disease. But it is also a world that God loves passionately: John 3:17 says that God sent his son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. If God loves and sustains this earth and its people, surely God calls us to do the same. God has given the totality of Himself to us. He did not cut corners or hold back a portion from us. He did not save something for a rainy day, He did not keep anything for His own pleasure. He gave all to us. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, the apostle Paul writes in Philippians 4:13. We are not left on our own, to try without hope of success. Instead, God works with us and through us to take what we have and bless and multiply it, strengthening the Church and each of us as needed. The future is as bright as the first light on Easter morning, and we are so blessed to be a part of it. Let us never grow tired of doing good. Pastor John STAFF RECOGNITION SUNDAY Staff Parish Relations Committee would like to recognize the staff of RUMC and express appreciation for all of their hard work and dedication to this church. 6 YAHA Spring Fling Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for the upcoming Spring Fling on Thursday, May 12th from noon to 2pm. in Fellowship Hall. We're hoping for great weather in keeping with our Spring theme and want to kick off the season with an indoor picnic. We will provide the beverages and 2 kinds of chicken and will be asking participants to sign up for different kinds of salads and desserts. Look for a sign-up poster in the church lobby. Come prepared to have a good old-fashioned time and rumor has it that there may even be some games to play with prizes. Come share a meal with your church family and see what YAHA's is all about. Romeo United Methodist Church sponsored an inspirational look back at the first churches and religious leaders of Romeo. Over 45 guests came to hear Steve and Nancy Domke s presentation, Founding Faith Fathers of Romeo. After months of researching through primary and secondary documents they shared unique facts about the early settlers who were determined each in their own way, to establish a Christian presence in Romeo. It was a journey back to our roots where we looked at six of our early local churches, focusing on the how s, why s and who s of their beginnings. We then took a closer look at the inspirational lives of six of these local founding fathers and how they provided role models for Christian Living today. Giving each Founding Father an attribute and matching the person s actions with a Biblical passage, caused the exciting history lesson to emerge into a significant Bible study. Both Steve and Nancy s enthusiasm and love of history was felt as they told how each church in Romeo began. At the end of the presentation they were both given compliments of Thank you for an interesting evening. I learned a lot. Thank you and may God bless you both, Steve and Nancy Domke, for your hard work and phenomenal presentation! The next lecture will occur in the Fall and we who work to provide the Life Skills programs wish to thank all those who came to this lecture. Romeo United Methodist Church Page 6

8 Great quilting begins with Linda Zimmerman! We wish to thank Linda for teaching a very large quilting class these past winter weeks. She taught the quilters how to take a fairly simple nine patch pattern and turn it into a fantastic creation of stitchery and color. Many of the quilts from the class will be exhibited this fall at the Christmas Bazaar. Those who would like to Learn with Linda will be happy to know she is scheduling a class this fall. Be sure to watch for the announcement of the class in the church bulletins and the poster advertising the class on an easel in the vestibule. For those interested in the class, why not start looking and gathering your material now. This would give you time to study colors and select the best combination for a quilt. Attention Gardeners! Simpson Park Camp is looking for groups to adopt a flowerbed on the camp grounds for the 2016 Season. If you love gardening and are looking for an area to get your hands dirty please contact Sophie Ziegler at Simpson Park Camp ( ) for more details.
