1 Highlawn Baptist Church 2304 Jefferson Ave. St. Albans, WV HIGHLAWN BAPTIST CHURCH NEWSLETTER November & December Pastor: Dr. David Carrico Youth Director: Leah Bowes Accompanist: Mrs. Julie Simon Secretary: Mrs. Lisa Ferrell Custodian: Mr. Brian Ferrell 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans, WV

2 JUST A THOUGHT - READY OR NOT November and December are here! We think of the Holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas as special family gathering days. We plan our special meals and gifts. We should also think of the Holidays as Holy Days. Making sure we have time for the Good Lord. Thanking Him for His many blessings to us, He spoils us! Our church is preparing itself to celebrate these Holy Days. Thanksgiving and Christmas programs and events take a lot of energy. That energy includes prayer, planning and thinking how best to proclaim the goodness of the Lord and the rightness He shows us. Like most church events they happen and are energized by the Holy Spirit. Ready or not here comes the Holidays, let us invite the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our celebrations, In the busyness of days may we give God all the glory. Blessings on You, David Carrico. Morning Worship for November Sunday, November 5th Message: Fellowship of Brokenness 1 Corinthians 11:28-34 Sunday, November 12th Message: Defining Moments Proverbs 4:20-27 Sunday, November 19 Thanksgiving Sunday Message: Stone of Remembrance Joshua 4:2-7 Sunday, November 26th Message: Forsaken Roots Matthew 22:37-39 The STARZ Puppet Team is seeking fun-loving, hard working, dedicated people to join our team and share God s love with others. Age doesn't matter, 5 to 105!! If interested, please contact the church office. Practice for the puppet team is every Sunday evening at 6PM. We are getting ready for our Christmas Program! Dearest Highlawn Baptist Church, My husband, Rev. Paul Romine will retire from the ministry February 1, 2018 at 1st Presbyterian Church of Saint Albans. We have made a prayerful decision to move and relocate to Lawrence Kansas to be near our family and three grandchildren. At this time, I am committed as choir leader here at Highlawn through April 1st, 2018 and possibly through the month of May. It has been an honor to serve here with all of you at Highlawn Baptist Church. It saddens me to leave my Highlawn Family and I will miss you very much. I am thankful to have been a part of such a great church. Blessings Julie Simon Morning Worship for December Sunday, December 3rd Sunday, December 17th ~Hanging of the Greens~ 3rd Day of Advent Advent Begins Message: Get Ready Message: The Journey Begins Matthew 3:1-3 Isaiah 7:14 Sunday, December 10th 2nd Day of Advent Message: Hope of the Ages Romans 15:12-13 Sunday, December 24th 4th Day of Advent-Christmas Eve Message: The True Story Luke 2:7-11 December 31st New Years Eve Sunday Message: Tunnel Vision of the Heart Mark 3:1-6 Sunday, November 5th

Our Christmas Celebration Tree will be set up in the foyer beginning Wednesday, November 29th. Please bring a meaningful ornament that you feel celebrates, remembers, or honors someone in your life. We will have small tags in a basket by the tree for you to write out your celebration story, attach the tag to your special ornament and hang it on the tree. Our tree will be up throughout the Christmas season. Maybe you became a parent or grandparent this year, your child graduated, you got a great new job, maybe with God s help, you overcame an illness, or you wish to honor someone you love, or remember a loved one that is now in heaven.
