2 Pastor s Paragraphs I am not a techy. In fact, I am rather challenged when it comes to new technology, but one thing has caught my attention Pokémon Go. No I am not playing it, but I see a lot of other people playing so I did some research to find out what this craze was all about. Pokémon Go is a mobile app. The game works by using your phone s GPS for your real-world location and augmented reality to bring up those Pokémon on your screen. I ve watched people on their phones at the mall, walking down the street, and riding skateboards searching for Pokémon. The sheer number of people that are engrossed in finding Pokémon is amazing. If I were a techy I would develop a God Go app to help people find God. Wouldn t it be interesting to watch people spend hours searching for God the way they search for Pokémon? God has so much more to give to his people if we seek him out and find him. I sought Him for thirty years, I thought that it was I who desired Him, but no, it was He who desired me (Benton 1978 Vol. 12 p 788). God waits until He knows your search is genuine and then He comes into your life with such power and force that even you can t doubt Him. Paul writes God made the world and everything in it. The Lord of heaven and earth does not live in temples made by human hands, nor is he served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives life and breath and everything to everyone. From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move about and exist. Acts:17 Pastor Bailey P.S. We have a Pokémon in the northeast corner of the parking lot. Caring from Within The friends and family of RUMC pray God s peace be with Greg Hill and family. Greg s father passed away August 15, You are in our prayers. Romeo United Methodist Church Page 2

My plans are to collect new clothes and deliver them in person in April I am working with someone and he has confirmed the need and what a help this would be for the children. Now is the perfect time because there are clothes everywhere on clearance. I have purchased 3 outfits already. We will have seven months to collect. It would be for either boys or girls of school age. More details to follow including local history, their needs and history of the church I am working with. Thanks in advance for your support and my hope to bring smiles to the kids. Gayle Beitel Special Performance Sunday October 9 At Both Services The musical, 567, is a meshing of the great thoughts, feelings and heart from the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5, 6 and 7, and mingles in current insights and the occasional contemporary twist. When music, heart, humor and message join forces, you have entertainment with great inspiration. 567: go tell it from the Mount is a contemporary look at the universal proclamation of Jesus with current applications an hour of insight and delight for the entire family. 7 Unity Music Festival 2016: We had a great 2nd year at the Unity Music Festival (Muskegon, MI) Aug.10-13, We had an opportunity to go to a Question & Answer Session with for King and Country and afterwards got to meet them in person. Kristin (Romeo HS Senior this fall) was super excited as this is her favorite band. We listened to music in the hot sunny weather one day and then a rain storm the next day but we had a great time listening to awesome Christian music and hanging out together in great fellowship. Trip Attendees: Erin Lane, Charlie Krawchuk, Haleigh Faris, Stan Israel, Jacob Nicol, Daniel Jones, Austin Faris, Jacob Mullin, Kristin Kage, and Hunter Rankin. 9 Saturday, October 8, 2016 is the date for the Blue Water District United Methodist Women Annual Meeting. You are invited to attend. The United Methodist House is a shelter for women and children and is in need of repairs. Romeo UMW would like to make a donation of $100 to help with repairs but would like input and approval from you. If you have any questions, or feel we should not support this mission, please Sandy Edwards at redwards5191@gmail.com. United Methodist Community House Collections at District Annual Meeting If you were at the District Annual Meeting last October, you will remember that, in addition to the regular pledge service, we also took up a collection for the Community House to help with repairs. The President of Detroit Conference, Micki Phelps, indicated, if each member were to contribute $4.00 per year, this would meet any obligation that the women of the Detroit Conference has for this National Mission Institution. I am proud to say that Blue Water District raised over $1000 toward repairs to the Community House! So As our main speaker this year is Rose Simmons from the Community House, we will be taking up another collection for them. Monies collected will be used for much needed repairs. You can all help out with their programs by bringing some of the items listed below. This is in addition to the items that we send to Cass Community Social Services. Any check should be made out to Blue Water District United Methodist Women (make sure you designate for repairs ). There will be some collection plates for this donation, use either checks or cash. The Community House is owned by the United Methodist Women and that is why we need to help out at this time. Items Needed for Bingo Prizes: Personal care items such as shampoo, conditioner, lotions, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. coffee, paper towels, dish and laundry detergents, trinkets and small decorative items Ingathering Projects for 2016 DRESS FOR SUCCESS Uniforms for Cass Community School Children Each year they have new homeless children/youth joining the shelter and every student needs two uniforms. 11 Open Letter to the Congregation To Our Beloved Romeo UMC Family, Romeo UMC has been our home for many years, as youth ourselves and now as youth leaders. We write you today to share the news that God has called us to move on from Romeo UMC. We tell you this with deep sorrow, for we will miss you all greatly. But our hearts are full, because they have been filled with all of your love. We are also excited, as we remain in His hope for God s plan for RUMC and the Lane family. If we had to use one word to describe RUMC, it would be hospitality. You have each shown us unending hospitality by opening your homes and your hearts to us. From our first summer (2012) on staff you have supported the vision for a ministry program that would pour into our youth. You have always shown encouragement for some of our new and crazy ideas (that may have created a little mess and a lot of noise) as we reached out to today s youth. As a congregation you have opened your hearts to all of the teens, helping to train them in the things that are important to us as a church. You have shown your commitment to the next generation as we looked at expanding our ministry to include a young adults program. You continued to show your hospitality by renovating the Methodist House so that we could move closer to church and the teens. Then you rallied behind transitioning the Youth & Young Adults role to full-time position to better serve the needs of the ministry. In order to show true hospitality, you must first have love. You have loved us as a couple and then last year when James was born, you continued to love us as a family. You welcome us each time we see you with smiles and hugs. It is greatly appreciated to know that we are a part of your family, because we think of you as a part of ours. You have also loved all of the youth and young adults that have walked through the doors of RUMC. You have shown them what the true body of Christ and the Church looks like. You have created a home for them whether they are a part of a family that regularly attends or they come with their friends. We will never be able to thank you enough for your prayers and support. As we transition into this new unknown chapter of our lives, we will continue to be in prayer for RUMC and all that God has in store within and outside of its walls. We hope that as our paths meet in our community that we can continue to share hugs and smiles as you will always mean so much to us. Always In Faith, Daniel & Erin Lane Romeo United Methodist Church Page 11
