3 Summer Festival Day at St Albans The annual Summer Festival Day at St. Albans for the Forward in Faith/Society Parishes under the care of the Bishop of Richborough will be on Saturday 5th August will be held in the Cathedral at 12 noon and afterwards, everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch back to Bishop Norman's garden, where drinks will be provided. St. Albans is an easy train ride from Folkestone to St. Pancras and then St. Pancras to St. Albans and the day is usually a pleasant one, so please do try and come. On Tuesday 15 th August there will be a sung mass at 7.30 to celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin May Father Peter Harnden wishes to "thank the lovely folk of St. Peter's for the warm welcome I have received these last few Sundays... It's been lovely worshipping with you and then sharing coffee and fellowship afterwards." Father Peter is now happily installed as the Rector of Harbledown near Canterbury. We look forward to continuing to work with him through the Forward in Faith Canterbury Diocese group. - All Forward in Faith / Society parishes are prayed for at and Benediction by the FiF Chaplain in The English Chapel at Christ The King, Gordon Square on a rotational basis. This week, they will be praying for us and our work at St. Peter's Folkestone. Would you please therefore also remember in your prayers this week, the work of Forward in Faith and the Society of St. Wilfrid and St. Hilda, which both work so hard to maintain the Catholic and Apostolic tradition within the Church of England. We are also particularly asked to pray for the ministry at the English Chapel, to tourists and visitors during the summer season. - Thank you to everyone for their patience and co-operation whilst the press have been present around the Church - and particularly to Pat Catchpole, who provided a widely used quote of her memories. The result has been national coverage of the story of "the bullets in the spire" including stories in the Folkestone and Hythe Express, The Daily Telegraph, The Sun, Daily Mail, Scottish Daily Mail, Daily Express, Daily Mirror, The Times, (Christian News), The Bishops' 'Daily Briefing' (goes to all Bishops), and BBC Kent (website). This coverage is very helpful both to the Parish and to its HLF grant and other fundraising efforts. A folder of cuttings will be placed at the back of the Church. Saturday 9 th September. On Saturday September 9th, we are expecting to open St. Peter's Church all day (10 am pm) as part of the National Heritage Open Days run by the National Trust. This will form part of our Heritage Development and Outreach Programme for the Heritage Lottery Funded works. This also conveniently co-incides with the Friends of Kent Churches Ride and Stride day. The Churchwardens are hoping that something similar to the successful 'Mosaic Day' will be arranged, with people dropping in for tea, tours and refreshment. Please make a note of the date, think what you might contribute and put forward your ideas. We will be recruiting volunteers to help with the day shortly. Please speak to Tony Edgar if you would like to sponsor his walk around the churches of Hythe in favour of Ride and Stride. We receive back 50 per cent of the amount he raises.

4 Our Day Pilgrimage to Walsingham This has been arranged for Tuesday September 19th 2017, for the Canterbury Society/Forward in Faith Parishes. 30 per person, including lunch. The day starts early with an 8 am (sharp!) Bus departure from Canterbury Wincheap Park & Ride; c am arrive in Walsingham; Our itinerary includes Lunch in the Refectory; at the Nave altar; The Sprinkling; & The Stations of the Cross; 4.30 pm depart; c. 8 pm arrive back at Canterbury Wincheap Park & Ride. Depending upon who signs up we may look at arranging car pooling or a minibus from St. Peter's to Canterbury and back (the latter would add to the cost slightly). Please sign up on the sheet at the back of the Church. (Each of the 7 Parishes currently has 7 spaces on the bus; not all are expected to fill their quota and then places will be allocated from the 'reserve lists' in larger Churches such as St. Peter's) Demand is likely to be high, so please sign up now so that you receive a place. Prayers for the sick Please let Robin Thomas know if you would like any names added to the list of those who ae sick and, of course, also let him know when they have recovered The Sacred Heart Chapel The church is considering how best to reorder the Sacred Heart Chapel so that it is a fitting Maritime Heritage Memorial Chapel placing our seamen in the Sacred Heart of Christ in accordance with the promises made to the Heritage Lottery Fund in the second grant application. Any suggestions/ comments should be made ideally in writing to David Wilson before the end of July. The Entrance Porch Bishop Norman was very impressed by how light the entrance porch now looked and asked if there were any suggestions as to something more spiritually uplifting than a notice board for the wall between the mosaic and the door which leads to the toilets to encourage newcomers to move along the entrance corridor and hopefully into the church itself. If you have any suggestions, please discuss them with others during tea and coffee and let David Wilson have them as well. Currently there is a proposal that a set of figures about 10 inches high should be placed in the 34 empty apertures between the architrave and the cornice you have to look up to the ceiling to see these spaces! The PCC also decided at their last PCC meeting to repaint the jubilee doors in silver gold and red (ruby) to give the entrance porch a lighter feel. Our Memorial Book This is the last call for all those who wish to have the names of loved ones entered into the Memorial Book this time round. Please speak to Robin Thomas if you have not already given the name to Joyce Hawker. There will be a small charge for the calligraphy which will depend on the number of names added. Lighting arrangements in the main body of the church. You should all be aware by now that the PCC are hoping to alter the lighting arrangements to the main Church during the next phase of the HLF funded works. please do make the effort to come along. You may give any suggestions to the Churchwardens.
