Vacation Bible School Save the Dates June 24-28!! Attention Graduating Seniors: Scholarship Offering The Knights of Columbus Council is offering two (2) $500 scholarships to two (one scholarship for each person) current seniors from Immaculate Conception Parish who will graduate in 2019 from any accredited high school that the parishioner attends. Funds from this scholarship must be used for the upcoming school year for the recipient to attend a college, university or technical school. Additional criteria includes: a GPA of at least a B average, involvement in school activities, evidence of service to our church, family and community, a letter of recommendation from a school or church official, and a candidate letter expressing why you are requesting the scholarship. Applications will be available on Thursday, March 1, in the display case located in the narthex or available from the parish office. Application deadline is Friday, April 13, Young Adult Winter 2019 Schedule (Subject to change.) Wednesdays, 6 p.m.: ICYA Holy Hour. Meet in the narthex at 5:45 p.m. We want to pray with you and walk with you on your journey. May this time of prayer be refreshing and strengthening. Thursdays, 6:30 p.m.: Sports in the gym. This is a time of casual sports, but enough to get us up and active. No sports ability is necessary, just a willingness to pump up adrenaline, blow off steam, and burn calories. 4 HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP Today, March 10 - Our Last pancake breakfast fundraiser for our summer mission trip to Copperhill, Tennessee. NO Youth Group meeting tonight! March Christian Awakening Retreat, Archdiocesan retreat for juniors and seniors... Contact Lizzie if interested. Trivia Night was a huge success! The Lenten Friday feast will continue each Friday until April 12 th. Serving times are 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Marian Center. Boston scrod, shrimp or pizza; hush puppies with every meal size, with a choice of two sides from the six different sides, including the Vegetable of the Week! There has been a price increase this year due to the increase in cost over the past couple years and the addition of a 6% sales tax. Meal sizes will be: Large Meal, $12.00, including 2 filets or 12 shrimp and 2 sides; Regular Meal, $10.00, includes 1 filet or 6 shrimp and 2 sides; Small Meal $6.00 (adults or children 6-12) half portions of Fish or 3 Shrimp and 2 sides; children under 5 eat free. A 6% sales tax is included in the above pricing by State law. We accept American Exp, VISA, Master Card, and Discover credit cards. Please come join us for a good time and a fantastic fish supper. In addition, again this year we will be accepting cash donations to be used to support our local food pantries: Our Daily Bread Ministry of IC and the Henry County Help Center.

5 Almsgiving, Prayer, Fasting and Temptation As we begin our season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, the reading from Deuteronomy reminds us of our duty of almsgiving, that we set [our offerings] before the Lord, [our] God, [and] shall bow down in [God s] presence (Deuteronomy 26:10). The reading from Romans refers us to our prayer, reminding us that The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart... For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:8, 13). These are comforting words, and encourage us to ask God for what we need and to aid us in our prayer. Finally, the Gospel of Luke shows us a fasting Jesus, who was tempted as we are, and who knows what it means to be human. Someone once said that temptation arises when you re tired and weary, and the devil comes along and makes a perfectly reasonable suggestion. First, the dying person may become more prayerful and reflective than ever before, reviewing life s journey in gratitude to God, or seeking forgiveness and making amends for wrongs. Second, as death approaches, the need to eat and drink is lessened until even an ice cube brushed against the lips is satisfying. Third, persons who are dying often make plans to give their possessions away, making bequests, handing treasures down, providing for favorite charities. Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving: with these three pillars of Lent, we rehearse our death every year in this season, and anticipate the final work we will do in this life. And every year, at the end of our journey, is the joy of Easter and the experience of the victory of Christ over death s darkness and power. Annually, we remind ourselves that the Christian experiences the same power and presence at the end of life s journey: Christ to the rescue and the lasting joy of heaven. James Field, Copyright J. S.
