At Christ Church, it is time to celebrate. The three year long Next Step Campaign has come to an end as a great success. The campaign, together with the faithful and sacrificial giving of many in the congregation, has moved the church ahead in several dramatic ways: first, it has set Christ Church free from debt; second it has provided funds for the new sanctuary roof that will be installed this summer; third it has provided funds for additional capital projects; finally, it has added more than $40,000 to the mission endowment fund, which will fund missions for decades to come. Praise God! On the morning of May 7, we will gather as a congregation to celebrate this amazing campaign. We will have fun, as we eat, and sing, and worship and eat again. We will also be about the important work of praising God and giving thanks. After all, God s activity has been a part of the Next Step Campaign from beginning to end. I hope you will plan to join the celebration that starts with breakfast at 8:30, includes events during the Sunday School hour, worship at 10:30 and lunch afterward. As we look to the event on May 7, I want to take some of your time to think about the place of celebration in the church. The Scriptures include many chapters and verses that tell us about celebrating and rejoicing in what God has done. Here are two to consider. The first is Exodus 15: After the drowning of the Egyptians in the Red Sea, Miriam the prophetess leads the Israelite women in singing and dancing to celebrate the LORD s victory. The second is Luke 15:8-10. Jesus uses the example of a woman rejoicing with friends and neighbors upon finding her lost coin. He does this to point toward the rejoicing in heaven that occurs when a sinner repents. So, when we celebrate what God has done at Christ Church, we are in step with God s people from the past, and even with what the angels do in heaven. Now what about the purpose of celebration in the church? Of most importance, is that as we celebrate, we engage in giving praise and thanks to God. When we gather to feast, sing, and worship, we honor God for God s gracious deeds in the life of our congregation. A secondary benefit of celebration is the effect it can have upon us. When we celebrate what God and the church have accomplished together, we are encouraged in our discipleship. Celebrating the past helps us have courage and hope for the future. As a congregation in the 21st century, Christ Church faces real challenges. We meet hostility and opposition from secular culture. We experience competition for time and involvement from the many other activities and labors that clamor for attention. We seek to serve the Lord and make disciples of Jesus Christ while those who follow other religions want to lead people in other directions. To be a vital church today, faithful to the Lord, is hard work. In the face of such challenges, celebration can remind us of God s gracious power and refresh our spirits for the days ahead. Are you ready to celebrate on May 7? I hope to see you then. Peace, Pastor Jason

4 Baby Bottle Boomerang Project This is a Human Life Services project that helps to support and feed those who have a special need. Last year 13 churches participated and collected $11, by filing baby bottles with donations. Our UMW will be participating with this project this year. There will be baby bottles placed throughout the Social Hall and Courtyard for your donations. Thank you for supporting this project UMW Members Graduate s Luncheon Sunday, June 4th 12:30p.m. We will be celebrating all who graduated this year! Everyone is invited Bring a side dish to share FAITH PROMISE SUNDAY April 30th and throughout the month of May, we will fill out our Faith Promise cards here at Christ Church. This is our means of financing our Mission outreach. All the missionaries and the local mission organizations that Christ Church supports go through Faith Promise. For any newcomers to Christ Church and to those who have used Faith Promise before, let this be a reminder of what Faith Promise is: It is not a place for you to direct your regular tithe. It is giving beyond your tithe give to Christian Missions. The Faith Promise cards need to be filled out after you have prayerfully sought the Lord s will concerning your Faith Promise. However God directs you to fill out your card understand that you are trusting Him to supply that financial need, and when He supplies it, you give it to him for missions. God may have already given your Faith Promise offering to you. In many instances you may not know where the money is coming from. Simply trust God for it, and he will supply it in a myriad of ways. Page 4 During the month of May you have the opportunity to fill out your Faith Promise card for the Faith Promise year. Eventually all the Faith Promise cards need to get in the hands of Pastor Jason. Please remember that Pastor Jason is the only person who sees the cards. At the end of May, he will total the amounts on the cards so that we know how much we have to work with for our Mission outreach. Once you have turned your Faith Promise card in, no one will ask you about it again. It s solely between you and God. The Faith Promise Mission Outreach this year will run from June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018 Mission Committee The GOODNEWSletter

7 UMW HOSTS AUTHOR TERRI ROBERTS JUNE 4TH 6PM AUTHOR OF FORGIVEN The Amish School Shooting, A Mother s Love, and a Story of Remarkable Grace Terri Roberts has lived just south of Strasburg, PA for the past 25 years, as wife of Chuck for 45 years, mother of four sons, and as a grandmother of 12. She is a member of Living Faith Church of God. She has survived serious illness and adheres, as a result, to an admirably rigorous diet. Hers was a relatively quiet life until nine years ago, when an unthinkable tragedy in her community, a tragedy for which one of her beloved sons was responsible, propelled Terri into the public s eye. In 2015 Terri finds herself with another Bump in the Road. She describes herself as one who has walked through circumstances beyond her own ability to cope yet has found strength and even joy along the way. Hers is a message of God s Grace given and received and the mountains it can move. There will be a question and answer session, book signing and light refreshments in the Social Hall. All are invited to hear her story! A Love Offering will be Offered JULY 10TH-14TH 9AM-11:30AM AGES 4 THROUGH GRADE 6 TIME TO REGISTER AND SIGN UP TO be part of the vbs staff!
