Deuteronomy 34:4 Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The text for this month s writing captures the end of Moses life as he stands atop Mt. Nebo gazing on the Promised Land he could see but not enter. At the age of 120, he had triumphed in leading Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness times, and now stood at the door step of the rich land below. Having laid hands on Joshua, the time had come to pass the baton to Israel s new leader. Moses work had been accomplished. As I thought about that story, I can only imagine how difficult that must have been for both Moses and the people. Change wasn t easy then or now. Israel would have to trust that God would be with Joshua just as He had been with Moses. Israel would have to trust that Joshua would triumph in leading them into possession of the Promised Land just as Moses had succeeded in leading them out of Egypt. Israel would have to trust that God would be with them now just as He had been in Egypt. I see a lot of similarity in the Moses story then and Christ UMC now. I believe that Christ UMC s best days are ahead of you. While the change in leadership wasn t easy for Israel, it isn t easy for us. What we must do is trust just like Israel did that God has anointed Pastor Jason for this new role just as He has been with each previous pastor of this congregation. We must trust that you will realize your dreams and do even greater things if you step out in faith and work with Pastor Jason. We must trust that as God has been with every previous generation, God continues to walks with us today. So as we move into these final weeks together, let s celebrate what we ve done together and look forward to seeing God do even greater things as we each embark on a new chapter in our lives. Let us with confidence know that God is with us and that the best is yet to come. Know you are in our daily prayers and that Dee and I, Jason and Beth and family, all welcome your prayers. Beth is also a graduate of Grove City College and is a teacher by profession. Jason and his family enjoy watching baseball and football ( they are Pirates and Steelers fans), as well as gardening and other outdoor activities. The boys play baseball, basketball and soccer. Pastor Jason Guillaume Appointed to Christ Church Effective July 1st Rev. Jason Guillaume is a native of rural Lycoming County in north central PA, and a life-long United Methodist. He graduated from Grove City College in 1996 and from Asbury Theological Seminary in Jason has served as a pastor in our conference since January of 2000, with appointments to the Ulster Charge and the Blossburg Charge in the former Wellsboro district and is currently serving in Tyrone at Wesley UMC in the Altoona District. 6 FAITH PROMISE SUNDAY On Sunday, May 3rd, we will fill out our Faith Promise cards here at Christ Church. This is our means of financing our Mission outreach. All the missionaries and the local mission organizations that Christ Church supports go through Faith Promise. For any newcomers to Christ Church and to those who have used Faith Promise before, let this be a reminder of what Faith Promise is: It is not a place for you to direct your regular tithe. It is giving beyond your tithe give to Christian Missions. The Faith Promise cards need to be filled out after you have prayerfully sought the Lord s will concerning your Faith Promise. However God directs you to fill out your card understand that you are trusting Him to supply that financial need, and when He supplies it, you give it to him for missions. God may have already given your Faith Promise offering to you. In many instances you may not know where the money is coming from. Simply trust God for it, and he will supply it in a myriad of ways. May 2nd Events Yard Sale 8am Chicken BBQ 10am Cruisin Night 4pm SUNDAY, MAY 3RD 4:00p.m. We will meet at the church and carpool to various locations in York City to distribute food and clothing. Sign up sheets are on the Welcome Tables. During the month of May you have the opportunity to fill out your Faith Promise card for the Faith Promise year. Eventually all the Faith Promise cards need to get in the hands of Pastor Doug. Please remember that Pastor Doug is the only person who sees the cards. At the end of May, he will total the amounts on the cards so that we know how much we have to work with for our Mission outreach. Once you have turned your Faith Promise card in, no one will ask you about it again. It s solely between you and God. The Faith Promise Mission Outreach this year will run from June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016 Mission Committee Servants Faith Beyond the Pews June 8-12, 2015 Home Helps is once again looking for volunteers who would like to join us in serving homeowners who are unable to help themselves in the Red Lion and Eastern School District. You may choose your days and hours. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner provided each work day. All volunteers can be useful in some way. 7 Happy Times Preschool 1 Year NEWS Please fill out forms on Welcome Table by May 3rd for both Remembering Mothers and Breakfast Remembering/Honoring Your Mother Remembering Mothers Sunday May 10th. You may honor or remember your mother or some special female in your life. Just submit your name or names along with $1 for each name on one of the forms on the Welcome Tables. Due Sunday, May 3rd. Spring is finally popping out all over in the Preschool! We have watched our caterpillars turn into butterflies and will soon release them outside. We have enjoyed running around the yard and on the playground in the back. And we are now sporting shorts and tee shirts finally :) The fours class had a wonderful time at Nixon Park in April. There is so much to see and do there. We have worked on the African animals and will cap off our unit with a safari (downstairs)! The threes class enjoyed learning about (and being) farm animals. Soon we will be learning about worms and bugs:) We are still accepting registrations for the fall class. Thank you to those who ordered sandwiches in April! I hope you enjoyed them. Everyone is invited Bring a side dish to share Taking the NEXT STEP Burning of the Mortgage May 31st All Worship Services District Superintendent Dr. Charlie Salisbury will be sharing the message as we celebrate the retiring of the mortgage debt of $248, Before the campaign we would have paid off this debt in years. But with the faithfulness of Christ Church and trusting in God s plan, we have accomplished this goal in 1 1/2 years! Praise God! Thank you for your faithfulness! Then the people rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they made their offering to the Lord with their whole heart. I Chronicles 29:9 Page 8 V BS IS COMING! July am-11:30am Those who look to HIM are radiant! Psalm 34:5 Last year we had 70 kids that came and learned about Jesus and it certainly was high energy and awesome fun! This year we want to keep that momentum going so we are bringing back the Go Fish Guys and their Bible based program Shine. Blacklight, Drums, and Sparkle are some new things for this year, so get excited and tell your friends, neighbors, and grandkids about this year s VBS! Watch for details and sneak previews in the weeks to come. And we can t offer this without many dedicated volunteers, so see us if you can help out in any way. Get ready to SHINE for Jesus!
