Luke 2:10-11, NRSV On Christmas Day, 2014, my wife, Beth, opened what may have been the best Christmas gift I have ever given to her: it was a Garmin Nuvi. Little did I know at the time just how useful that gift to her would be. Less than 4 months later, we learned of a change in appointment, to Christ United Methodist Church of Yorkana. The Garmin showed us the way to find Christ Church the first time. It directed Beth to the right places when she made several trips to York and Lancaster counties for job interviews in the spring of that year. When she was hired by the Northeastern School District, the Garmin helped her find her way to the school. Our sons soccer, baseball and basketball games also put the GPS to work. Of the many gifts I have given to Beth over the years, the Garmin may indeed be number one on her list. This month we celebrate the ONE awesome gift that God has given to us. We cannot count all of God s gifts to us, but we can know which one is the best. The Garmin for my wife pales in comparison to what God has done. The LORD has given us a Savior, the Messiah to be ruler over us, the Lord Jesus Christ. Angels announced the gift s arrival to the shepherds, but he did not come for them alone. Jesus was given for all the Jewish people. Yet, he did not come for the Jews only. He came to save everyone who would believe in him. To each one who trusts him, Jesus gives the power to become children of God. (see John 1:10-13) So, Jesus is the best gift, because he is the one who saves! The Garmin has been so handy in helping Beth find new places. In Jesus, God has given us the One who not only shows us the way to the Father, but he is himself the Way to God. May your celebration of the gift of the Savior be full of wonder this Christmas. Peace to you, Pastor Jason

6 Christmas Candy Making Schedule Saturday, Dec 3rd 8am-4pm Monday, Dec 5th 9am-9pm Tuesday, Dec 6th 9am-2pm & 6pm-9pm Wednesday, Dec 7th 9am-2pm No experience needed! Any questions, please see or call Diana Thoman We will be collecting new hats, gloves, socks, and underwear for children during the program. They will be distributed to children in the area, please feel free to take if you know of a child who is in need. 7 OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD We Did It! Thank you for your generous help. We exceeded our goal! Amazing! We collected 163 boxes packed full of toys, school supplies, candy, and hygiene items. Many children will be so happy to receive their box. It shows to the children all over the world that we care and want them to experience God s love. Sunday, December 25th 9am SS Cookie Social 10:30am Combined Worship in Sanctuary No 8am Worship CHRISTMAS CARD GIVING: You are given the opportunity to send Christmas card greetings and well wishes to friends and family here at Christ Church. You may choose both or one of the following: 1) The Heaven s Helpers Sunday School Class will be collecting and sorting cards on Sunday, December 11th. For a timely delivery, no cards will be accepted after this date. Thank you. Please be sure to place your cards in alphabetical order and secure with rubber bands. Boxes are available for placement of your cards. Now that your shoebox is packed and on its way to your child and their family continue to pray for them to accept the love of Jesus and commit their life to Him. One simple gift-filled shoe box, given in Jesus name, is going to change a child s life. You made the difference with God s help! Thank you! Kim Sterner Christmas Child Coordinator We gave: Boy ages boxes ages boxes ages boxes Girl ages boxes ages boxes ages boxes Class members will be delivering cards to all those that are at the Brunswick. 2) The CHRISTMAS CARD GIVING TREE (located in the courtyard) will send well wishes of the season to all by placing one card per family on the tree; the money you save from the purchase of cards, may be placed as an offering to help a family in need or to support a ministry, etc. Christ Church will identify the area of need and make you aware of where your money has been placed. 8 2017 Contribution Envelopes will be available for pick up during the end of the month of December to the rear of the c m r th am Our tradition of gathering together during the Sunday School hour continues again this year. Each Sunday School class please prepare something to share with the group. Bring cookies or a snack to share. Help wil be needed in the kitchen Please let Randy Rissler know what your SS class wil be sharing by Dec. 4th sanctuary. Reminder: annual contribution statements are issued for tax purposes only to those who use contribution envelopes. Please be sure to check out the table for your envelopes.
