Crippling Nor Easter in the winter season? Check. Strong thunderstorms with damaging winds and tornado? Check. Sun for a day, cloudy, then rain? Check. Weather is always changing, of course, but the first half of the year in York County has seemed to bring even more changes in weather than usual. Maybe July and August will settle into the hazy, hot and humid pattern for weeks, but don t count on it. If the weather does not offer enough change and variety for us, we certainly can get it from other areas of life. The passage of years brings personal change to our bodies, our minds, and our families. Technology changes, so that what was new can become obsolete in just a few years. Markets change, so that old businesses die, and new ones arise. A new day often calls for new job skills, and sometimes jobs disappear entirely. At the same time, the morals of the culture change, and not always for the better. When the pace of change is so rapid, and when it offers little opportunity for rest, we can feel stressed and overwhelmed. As Christians, however, we have a source of hope to hold us and steady us. Even as we live through so much change in the world around us and in our own lives, there is one who does not change. The author of Hebrews tells us, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8. Jesus identity is constant: he is God s Son, our Savior, now and forever. His character does not change. All the time, Jesus and his words are true. He is love, and he constantly shows love to us. Yesterday, today and forever, Jesus has healing power and the power to give life. When we put our trust in him, he can keep us steady in a world of constant change. The author of Hebrews also writes, We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrew 6: As followers of Jesus Christ, we put our hope in him who does not change. Our lives are secure no matter what storms may rage around us, because Jesus is our anchor. His identity as God s Son, the Christ, the Savior, and his steadfast character serve as the rock-solid mooring for our lives. I certainly cannot predict the weather for the next two months, but I can write this with assurance, Jesus does not change, and he will be the anchor for our souls, no matter what changes come into our lives in July and August. So, let us place our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, for we will find rest and security in him. Peace in Christ, Pastor Jason

8 A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW YOUTH DIRECTOR Hello, my name is Terrence Rosario and I am honored to be the new Youth Director for CUMC. I come from a family of seven and am close with all my brothers and sisters. I have 2 amazing parents that I am very thankful for. They instilled in me values and disciplines that I will be forever grateful for. When I was in middle school, I went to Japan as an ambassador for the Lancaster School District while at Edward Hand Middle School. I am a 2006 Lancaster Mennonite High School graduate and recently earned my Bachelor s Degree in Pastoral Ministry and Biblical Studies from Lancaster Bible College. I work at Mennonite Homes as a CNA. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my 11 year old son, TJ (Terrence Jadon) and my girlfriend Nikki. I like to watch movies, play basketball and spend time with my family. One of the main reasons why I enjoy ministry so much is because it gives me an opportunity to evangelize both in the church and outside of it as well. Since I came to Christ, there is nothing more that I enjoy than sharing my testimony and building relationships. God has wired me in a way that desires to connect with people at whatever level that they feel most comfortable with. This gift has led to many opportunities to connect with people in various settings, such as the park, grocery store, school and basketball (games.) A verse that speaks to me is Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Terrence COLLECTING BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES R.E.C.S (Rivers Edge Community Services) will again be collecting school supplies for distribution at Eastern York Elementary schools and the Middle school.
