Envelopes..8 Christmas Eve Services..8 Make Room In the story of Christmas, the innkeeper at Bethlehem often gets a bad rap. Jesus first crib was an animal feed trough (Luke 2:7) because there was no room for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus in the inn. Should the innkeeper not have made room for the pregnant woman and her husband? With hindsight, we think so. King Herod deservedly gets a bad rap. As far as he was concerned, there was no room for God s Messiah in his heart or in his kingdom. He wanted Jesus dead, and in his attempt to kill Jesus, all the male toddlers and infants two years old and younger in the Bethlehem area were murdered. Jesus escaped because an angel had already warned Joseph in a dream to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. (Matthew 2:13-14). As the half-jewish ruler of Jewish people, should Herod not have welcomed the news that the promised Messiah had arrived? Of course he should have welcomed Jesus, instead of setting himself against God. As we reflect on the roles that Herod and the innkeeper played in the birth of Jesus, let s also consider our own response to the Savior. Have we made room for him in our hearts and our busy schedules, or have we pushed him to the margins and left him in the hay where the animals feed? Have we warmly welcomed him as the Messiah, the Lord and surrendered to his authority, or have we closed our ears to his voice and clung to our own desires and sense of control? Jesus will not let us remain neutral. We have to either welcome him or reject him. In the weeks leading up to the celebration of Christmas, how will you make room for Jesus? How will you respond to his rule as God s anointed king for God s people? I invite you to pause for a few minutes and make a plan for how you can make space for Jesus in your heart, in your schedule, in your life this month. Then, with God s help, live out the plan as Christmas Day draws near. The Peace of Christ Be with You, Pastor Jason

Here are some of the good results I have experienced in the past several months: The sense of emotional and spiritual exhaustion is gone. I have felt renewed in my spirit for the work of ministry. My vocational call to ministry was renewed and refocused on declaring the good news of salvation in Jesus. My personal relationship with God is more vital, and ministry flows out of that relationship. Thank you Christ Church for supporting the extended time away this summer. 6 THE POWER OF A SIMPLE GIFT Young and young at heart will enjoy this retelling of the Christmas Story! Along with the children of Christ Church the Faithful Messenger Puppet/Drama team will be telling the Christmas Story with the help of a classic rock song! Featuring some new puppets! Invite your family and friends! We will be collecting new hats, gloves, socks, and underwear for children during the program. They will be distributed to children in the area, please feel free to take if you know of a child who is in need. A Cookie Social will be immediately following the program, please bring a dessert/snack to share. We did it! We exceeded our goal. We collected 182 shoeboxes packed full of toys, school supplies, and hygiene items!! It is always amazing how God works. Thank you for your generous help. Many children will be so happy to receive their box. It shows to the children all over the world that we care and want them to experience God s love. Some information you may like to know: The people helping at the distribution center that received your boxes on Nov. 19th were thrilled with the huge number of boxes. They were so happy that all the helpers laid hands on the boxes and the person in charge said a prayer for the children that were to receive the gifts. It was really neat to witness that act of love. We gave - Boys (ages 2-4) 17 boxes, (ages 5-9) 32 boxes, (ages 10-14) 25 boxes Girls (ages 2-4) 22 boxes, (ages 5-9) 55 boxes, (ages 10-14) 31 boxes Now that your shoebox is packed and on its way to your child and their family, continue to pray for them to accept the love of Jesus and commit their life to Him. 7 CHRISTMAS CARD GIVING: You are given the opportunity to send Christmas card greetings and well wishes to friends and family here at Christ Church. You may choose both or one of the following: 1) The Heaven s Helpers Sunday School Class will be collecting and sorting cards on Sunday, December 10th. For a timely delivery, no cards will be accepted after this date. Thank you. Please be sure to place your cards in alphabetical order and secure with rubber bands. Boxes are available for placement of your cards. 2) The CHRISTMAS CARD GIVING TREE (located in the courtyard) will send well wishes of the season to all by placing one card per family on the tree; the money you save from the purchase of cards, may be placed as an offering to help a family in need or to support a ministry, etc. Christ Church will identify the area of need and make you aware of where your money has been placed. FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY CLASS OFFERED Elective Sunday School Class Starting January 7th 9am each Sunday This isn t your typical money class. Financial Peace University is practical, entertaining and fun! More than 1.5 million families and individuals have taken FPU The average family completing the course pays off $5,300 and saves $2,700 in just 90 days. That s an $8000 change in position! Any questions, please see or call Gail Stein Sign up sheets will be on the Sign up tables NEW WORSHIP SERIES COMING JANUARY 2018 BASIC TRAINING FOR FOLLOWERS OF JESUS Jan 14th-feb 18th Pastor Jason will be leading an exciting and crucial study of the basic principles of being a follower of Jesus that if you choose to enlist and engage you will strengthen your relationship with God and take ownership of your spiritual walk. We will kickoff the series on Sunday, January 14th by enlisting and receiving training field manuals. After worship you re invited to a Kickoff Lunch and an opportunity to ask someone to be your accountability partner (wingman). More information about this will be coming soon.
