Children The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) YOUTH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Do you regularly attend the 10:00am Mass on Sundays? Consider this your invitation to get involved in the Kingdom Kids Worship Ministry! All that is needed is a willing heart to serve. The leaders do all the planning. Youth assist the leaders as Gospel is proclaimed to the children. Volunteers join the parish community for Eucharist. This drop-in casual play group is a great way to get to know other Catholic moms in the parish while your kids play. Special outings are planned throughout the year. 3 Page 3 May 8, 2016 Adult Faith Formation Lectio Divina for Women All women of the parish are welcome to join one of our Women s Lectio Divina prayer groups. These groups meet twice monthly. One group meets on Friday mornings from 10 until 11 and the other group meets Wednesday evenings from 7 until 8:30. Enjoy some quiet time as we focus and pray over the Scriptures for the upcoming Sunday. Wednesday Evening group: May 11 & 25 Friday Morning group: May 20 Meetings are held in the Gathering Room of the Church. Youth Ministry Senior Youth Group meets in St. Michael Hall following the 5pm Mass and wraps up at 8:00pm. All high schoolers are invited! Any parents willing to provide dinner for any of the remaining meetings should contact Patrick Walsh at pwalsh@olmc.org. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! Remaining Meetings: May 8, 15, & 22, and June 5 SYG Fellowship Teens in high school gather for fun and fellowship on Wednesday nights. Join us this week in St. Michael Hall for game night from 6:30 to 8pm. Bring your favorite game (board game, card game, hacky sack...whatever!) -- and as always, bring a friend! Young Adults Young Adult Day of Reflection (Diocesan Event) All young adults (18-30) are invited to a Day of Reflection on May 13-14, We will meet at the Pastoral Center in Richmond for a wine and cheese social on Friday night, May 13th, from 7 PM - 9 PM. Then, join us on Saturday at Saint Edward the Confessor in Chesterfield for a day of reflection from 9:30 AM - 6 PM. The day will be filled with inspirational talks, reflection time, and small group discussions. Cost is $20 to attend. Registration is available at: regonline.com/dayofreflection. For those in need of overnight accommodations, a block of hotel rooms has been reserved at Country Inn and Suites (8010 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23294). Statue of our Blessed Mother The statue of our Blessed Mother that is in the Church this weekend was brought over from the school and crowned with flowers by the 8 th grade class at the weekly Friday school Mass. May is the month of Mary and a May crowning is a traditional way of showing our love and devotion to Our Lady. Initiation Programs RCIA Open House: May 17 The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children is a process for those seeking to learn about the Catholic Faith. For those who discern the faith, it can lead to reception of the Sacraments of Initiation. It is for those never baptized, those baptized individuals coming from other faith traditions, and for those baptized Catholics who were not raised in the Church and missed celebrating their Sacraments. For children over 7 years of age, the process offers the opportunity to learn about the Catholic faith and celebrate the Sacraments as well. Please consider this journey of faith! Catholics Come Home: Group Begins May 17 Have you been away from the active practice of your Catholic Faith? Consider the Catholics Come Home process! We offer a small group setting to help you feel comfortable with your Catholic faith and return to active practice once again. Whatever the reason you left the Church, please come home! We offer updates of your Catholic faith, healing from the past, and help with annulments. Whatever your particular needs or concerns might be will be addressed. Sacraments Baptisms at OLMC are celebrated seven times throughout the year. Whether you are parents-to-be, parents of an infant, or parents of a young child, we invite you to consider having your child baptized into the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Every human being is created in the image of God and redeemed by Jesus Christ, and therefore is invaluable and worthy of respect as a member of the human family. Every person, from the moment of conception to natural death, has inherent dignity and a right to life consistent with that dignity. Rapid Pass is done the day of your appointment, just visit: Redcrossblood.org/RapidPass Migrant Mission Trips to the Eastern Shore We are in need of a bus driver for our parish trips to the Eastern Shore this year. No CDL required we will be taking the small bus. The bus leaves property at 5pm and returns between 10:30-11:30pm. Trips this year are scheduled: July 12, 19 and 26 Please let me know if you would be interested in driving the bus for our trips to the Eastern Shore this year. Contact: twandersee@olmc.org or ext. 118 Catholic Diocese of Richmond's Office of Social Ministries (OSM) is excited to release the application for the Verso l'alto Social Ministry Discipleship program. Verso l Alto Social Ministry Discipleship is a yearlong formation program intended to prepare people to develop and enhance their personal faith life and then go out and live the Gospel message by engaging their communities. Participants will be able to minister to those who are the most vulnerable and disenfranchised in a Christ-like manner, and following in the example of its patron Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati who heroically exemplified a life of prayer and service. We invite all Catholics from the ages of years old to consider applying to this program. Contact Tina for more information: twandersee@olmc.org Inclusive Ministries Assistive Listening Devices Now Available Do you have trouble hearing the Mass or understanding everything that is said? Our parish now has the ability to offer personal Assisted Listening Devices (ALD s). An ALD is a small, personal receiver device meant to work with or without a hearing aid in order to help ensure that everyone who comes to worship will be able to hear what is being said. These devices will be available for loan during all liturgies. OLMC has 4 ALD receivers with ear buds to be checked out at the Welcome Desk before weekend Masses. If you could benefit from using an ALD during any other gathered event at OLMC please contact the parish office. BREATHE Respite Team: Thank you! A heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers that made our BREATHE events possible this year! Our volunteers are the BEST: Buddies, Station Leaders, Nurses, Doctors, Pizza Servers, Registration Crew, the OLMC Card Ministry, Knights of Columbus, Youth Volunteer Corps and all those who supported us with their time, treasure and talent! 5 Page 5 May 8, 2016 Second Collection Next Weekend Next weekend, May 14/15, a second collection will be taken to help the Little Sisters of the Poor, who provide a home with compassionate care for Virginia s elderly poor since The Sisters will be present at all the Masses to explain their mission and to ask for your support. Because their Residents are of limited financial means, the Little Sisters depend upon the charity of friends and benefactors to operate their Home. Your generosity will enable the Sisters to continue welcoming the needy elderly and providing them with the love and dignity they deserve. OLMC Parish News Parish Council Meeting All parishioners are welcome to attend the first thirty minutes of regular meetings to address the Parish Council. The next meeting of the Parish Council is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 th, at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady s Gathering Room. Music & Liturgy Bell Choir Begins Again THIS Monday! How blessed we were to hear the sound of bells during the Triduum! If you would like to be a part of contributing such uplifting music to Mass, consider joining us THIS Monday, May 9 th, at 7:00pm for the summer re-launch of our Handbell Choir. You do NOT have to know how to read music, just bring a joyful heart and a willingness to learn. Greeting Card Sale St. Veronica's Guild will be selling handmade cards next weekend in the Commons after all Masses. Cards are available for Graduation, Father s Day and Baptism. Sympathy cards and blank cards are available as well. The Circle of Hope is a group of parishioners who are dealing with (or has in the past) been dealing with chronic illness or cancer. We are a faith based, positive support group. The group meets once a month on Saturday morning from 10-11:30 am. Our meetings consists of getting to know each other and updates of situations, prayer, humor, good food and lots of encouragement. This group has been there and knows what is means to have a supportive group to share the journey with. Please consider joining us! We are currently watching a segment of a DVD series on Mercy.
