We will need at least two committed adorers for each hour. A detailed schedule will be published in the November 17/18 bulletin. A sign-up sheet will also be in the Commons after all Masses starting that weekend. This will be a great opportunity to make an hour long mini-retreat from the busyness of the Advent season! The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens will be celebrated at the 10:00 a.m. Mass. These Rites mark the first time this RCIA group is formally welcomed into our Christian community. We encourage your continued prayers for the deepening of each participant s relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church as he/she continues to journey toward full initiation at Easter. Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) KidCheck account required. The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. We are still seeking volunteers to help at the 10 AM and 2 PM Nursery (must be Virtus trained). Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. At OLMC, Kingdom Kids Worship is available at the 10:00am Mass on the first, second and third Sunday of the month. Children process out at Mass & return before the Eucharist. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level I CGS is a religious faith formation developed by Montessori Educators for children ages 3 through 6 (LEVEL I). It does not use a catechetical series of books or a regular classroom. It takes place in an atrium (with materials appropriate to their ages and sizes). The intention of CGS is to help the child grow in his/ her relationship with God and get to know Him through contact with Scripture and the liturgy of the Church. Parents of children who are registered in the pilot group need to make an appointment with their Catechist for a short parent orientation and a meeting and a one-on-one session for the children and catechists. God Rocks High School Retreat The God Rocks Retreat is an annual OLMC tradition and is a retreat run for the youth by the youth. We have fun together, pray together, learn together, and grow closer to God together. Don't miss out! It s a great way to prepare for Christmas! Registrations are available in hard copy in the Church Commons and online at seekingmeaning.weebly.com Theme: God Rocks the Relentless Who: All those in 9 th -12 th grade. When: December 14, 15, & 16. The retreat will begin at 5:30pm on Friday and end by 12pm on Sunday. Where: Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center Cost: $80. Scholarships are available. Registration is due by December 6 to guarantee a T-shirt! DYC It's not too late to register for the annual Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC)! This is a fantastic retreat that brings High School teens from all over Virginia together for fun, fellowship and worship. Early bird registration (which implies a DISCOUNT) is Monday, December 17 th, at noon. It's only $170 if you register by then (this includes travel costs and lunch on Sunday). You can find the registrations in the Church Commons, online, and at the Parish Office. Youth Ministry Outdoor Venture The youth minister, Ken White, and the pastoral year seminarian, Kevin Reidel, are teaming up to lead a hike at Old Rag Mountain for anyone in High School. Cost is $5 (for transportation). We ll leave on Saturday, November 24 th, at 10am and will return by midnight on the same day. Food donations have continued to be WAY up and your response to the need for Thanksgiving Food to include Turkey s is continuing to be overwhelming. We had 6 different routes for Thanksgiving deliveries and plenty of families (and CNU Students) who came forward to help with getting food out to the aging community on our list. May you and your families experience the Hope of Christ! Parish Life Christmas Card Sale Remember to keep Christ in Christmas with a beautiful box of religious Christmas cards on sale in the Commons beginning this weekend after all Masses. SAVE THE DATE FOR THE GARAGE SALE - APRIL 27, 2019 The annual Ladies of Carmel summer Garage Sale will be held in the Spring! Please save your items to donate in April! CHRISTMAS Angels, Trees and Stars oh my! Beginning this weekend: November 17/18, you will find hanging on the windows in the commons Angel, Tree and Star tags. These tags are for the WHOLE PARISH COMMUNITY to consider picking up to assist OLMC in the mission of bringing the HOPE of CHRIST to those in need of hope this Christmas. Angel Tags are for those children and/or families on our list in partnership with the NNPD and the NN Social Services Dept. They contain the wishes and needs for these families. Tree Tags are for the aging on our Christmas list. The tags ask for $25.00 Manna Gift Card to Walmart, Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens or a place with a pharmacy. Star Tags are items that are needed in our Pregnancy Outreach Ministry. Please consider picking up a tag from the window. If Angel Tag, PLEASE sign this out in the sign-out book located on either side of the commons against the windows. PLEASE try not to lose this tag and PLEASE attach securely to wrapped gift when it is returned. Follow directions on the back of the tag. They can be placed in baskets found in the Commons Kitchen or you may order online at LOC@olmc.org. Be sure to specify the number of cakes you want to purchase and whether they should be with or without nuts. Carmel Business Connect Networking with other parishioners to serve and grow. Share the ministry. Share Christ. Join us for Carmel Business Connect, a monthly one hour event which gives you a chance to enjoy breakfast, network with other Catholic business people, and a hear a featured speaker. Carmel Business Connect is a great way to share your business, and hear about the businesses and work of other Catholics at our parish. 7 Page 7 November 18, 2018 K of C Corner Liturgical Ministries The Knights of Columbus was founded to protect Catholic widows and children in Today it still does that and it does a whole lot more. Examples in OLMC are easy to find, if you know where to look, like OLMC School s Auction fund raiser, Teacher Excellence Fund, Tuition Assistance and school repairs. You can also see the Knight s support at work in the OLMC Food Pantry, supporting the Capital Campaign Pledge, Weekly Bulletin underwriting and financially supporting youth activities such as the Steubenville Conference and OLMC s BSA Pack 242. The Knight s and their families are involved in almost every aspect of the OLMC s parish life and have been for over 50 years. It's been reported by the major news organizations and other mass media outlets that the newer generations do not join fraternal organizations like the older generations did. This may or may not be true, but a lot of the Knights feel like their Councils are actually another vital ministry within their Parishes. Visit kofc5480.org, kofc.org or kofc.org/joinus to learn more Linen Ministry Help Needed These ministers clean and press the altar linens and purificators used each week in our liturgies. This is an invisible, yet essential, ministry. The cloths used at the altar in the Eucharistic celebration are to be treated with the care and respect due to those items being used in the preparation and celebration of the sacred mysteries. Accordingly, guidelines are provided for their cleaning. This ministry is time-flexible and is performed at home; ideally this would be on a 6-8 week rotation. Please contact Julie Hill at jhill@olmc-school.com. Sacristans Needed Sacristans work behind the scenes. They prepare the worship spaces for the celebration of the sacraments each week by polishing, light cleaning, and watering plants. Sacristans can expect to work for 1-2 hours, every four to six weeks. They are usually able to work on a day that fits their schedule, daytime or evening, on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Training is scheduled on an individual basis. Please contact Julie Hill at jhill@olmc-school.com. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School The Purple Star Designation is Awarded to OLMC School! Our Lady of Mount Carmel School enjoyed a "Bring Your Service Member to School" military appreciation event on November 8 th. The morning event concluded with a special announcement and presentation from Mr. Dan Dunham, the Military & Family Specialist from the Virginia Department of Education. Mr. Dunham presented Our Lady of Mount Carmel School with the Purple Star Designation signifying that OLMC has been recognized as being a military-friendly school. OLMC School is one of only three private schools in the state of Virginia to be awarded this designation. We are honored with this great opportunity for our school to continue to serve not only military families, but ALL families seeking a Christ-centered education at OLMC!
