3 Page 3 November 6, 2016 Life Everlasting The second book of Maccabees tells a powerful story, and a rather gruesome one at that. But central to it, beyond the horrible deaths inflicted upon the brothers and their mother, is their belief in the promise of resurrection and life everlasting in God. Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray for him as he spreads Christ's message of love, so that he might be delivered from other nonbelievers anxious to do him harm. The apostle is confident in such prayer, just as he is confident in the everlasting support of Jesus and God the Father. And there's that "everlasting" word again. The Sadducees, not buying the idea, ask Jesus an interesting--albeit meaningless--question about the status of married life at the Resurrection. He tells the non-believers that marriage isn't an issue for the risen children of God. The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. Children The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program from Pflaum Publishing Group guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. First Sacrament Preparation: The next First Penance (Reconciliation) Workshop will be held at St. Michael Hall on Sunday, November 20, from 11:15am until 1:45pm. Please bring items small enough to fit in a shoe box for the Tree Box Giving: markers, crayons, small coloring book, small toy or game, stickers and other small surprises. The children will assemble and decorate the boxes at the workshop. Complete all lessons in the Encounter with Christ - Reconciliation books prior to attending. Adult Faith Formation Contact Janet Hassan at jhassan@olmc.org or ext Lectio Divina for Women Come & try this prayer group! We read the upcoming Sunday Gospel and, through prayer, directed material and Taize music, find God s message for us in this Gospel. We meet for one hour, 10 am 11am in the Gathering Room of the Church. We meet twice a month on Friday mornings. The November dates are: 11/4 and 11/18. We hope you will consider giving a session a try. Those attending agree that this experience greatly enhances there Sunday experience and understanding of the Gospel Message. Book Study Have you been interested in growing in your relationship with Christ, but you feel stuck? Do you ever feel like there might be more you can do in order to experience spiritual freedom and a closer intimacy with Christ? A 6-week book study will be held in the Gathering Room every Monday, at 6:30 p.m. beginning on November 7 th. The book we will discuss is Happy Are You Poor, The Simple Life and Spiritual Freedom by Fr. Thomas Dubay. The book is $10 and will be available for purchase/pick-up at the first study. God Rocks Retreat The God Rocks Retreat is the OLMC Senior Youth Group s annual retreat. The Conference is a highly energetic, engaging, and awesome opportunity for our high school teenagers to gather as a larger Church community and celebrate the amazing richness of our Catholic Christian faith. The theme for this year s conference is Fully Alive. The Conference is open to youth who are in 8 th through 12 th grade for the academic year. As we prepare to feed over 100 families and aging at Thanksgiving we find we are in need of many items in the pantry as well as items to fill our Thanksgiving bags. To help fill this need please consider bringing one item from both of the lists below to Mass with you for the next couple of weekends: Nov. 5/6 & 12/13, most especially. 7 Page 7 November 6, 2016 Pastoral Ministries Community News Circle of Hope The Circle of Hope is a Catholic support group for anyone dealing with Cancer or other chronic illness. We meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Meetings are held in the Gathering Room of the Church from 10 am 11:30 am. Please join us and give the meeting a try. Our next gathering is SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH! This is truly a positive group of people who will offer support and a positive attitude where it is needed the most. Want more information? Call or Janet in the parish office. Greater Hampton Roads Cursillo November Ultreya Saturday, November 12th at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church The Ultreya will start after the 5:30 PM Mass. We encourage all the new babe chicks to attend and meet with the Greater Hampton Roads Cursillo community. Please bring a very light snack or a drink to share.
