Catechumenate for Children and Teens ATTENTION PARENTS: If you have a child over 7 who have not completed their Sacraments of Initiation or may be interested in the Catholic Church please consider the Catechumenate. These are the categories of those that should consider participating: Those who wish to learn about the teachings of the Catholic Church (age 7 and over). Those who have never been baptized (age 7 and over). Children and teens baptized Catholic who have not completed their Sacraments of Initiation (Communion and/or Confirmation). For the most part this situation is for those above 4 th grade who have not attended Faith Formation in the past. The Children s Catechumenate begins in a few weeks. Please come, discuss your situation, and allow us to help you get your child started. Team Announcements Pathways Catechist Training by the Diocese of Richmond All catechists in our diocese are asked to become Pathways certified. Pathways is a one day, instructor led, interactive program of prayer, learning and reflection for all parish catechists of adults, youth and children AND Catholic school religion teachers. The next training on the Peninsula is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk. Registration is online at regonline.com/calendarnet/eventcalendar.aspx? EventID= &view=month. The cost of the training will be covered by OLMC. If you do not have access to the internet, call the parish office to register. Nursery Our nursery is a Co Op Nursery, currently at the 10:00am Mass, staffed by parents who utilize the nursery and volunteer about one Sunday per month. It is a place for children ages 1 year to 4 years old to come together to worship, learn about God and grow in their faith development through bible stories, songs and activities. This orientation is for parents of children attending public, as well as Catholic, schools. Register online at olmc.org. Confirmation Registration for Confirmation for the year is now open. Teens who are registered for Confirmation and at least one of their parents must attend the Diocesanmandated Parent/Candidate Orientation on September 14 th at 11:30am in St. Michael Hall. Information regarding the process for Confirmation will be given at this session. It will also help teens discern their readiness and disposition for sacramental preparation. Junior & Senior Youth Groups Adult Faith Formation MOMNIPOTENT: A Study to help Moms Find Peace, Balance, and Joy! More than a study Momnipotent is a movement to reclaim a vocation. Discover the eight feminine strengths that lead to a happy and fulfilled life. Join with other mothers of the parish in this 8 week study to find peace, balance and joy in your vocation as a mother. We currently have additional friends who have expressed an interest in participating in a new group, and we need mentors to walk the journey with them. SPRED is designed to form adult communities of faith into which adults with intellectual disabilities are welcomed. This ministry provides a way for the participants to encounter God in community, in a manner that is appropriate to their gifts. Liturgical Ministries Lector Training Are you interested in becoming a Lector for our Liturgies? John Christian, a seminarian for the Diocese of Richmond, will be spending his Pastoral Year with us here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Originally from Lynchburg, John graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA, in He entered St. Mary s Seminary & University in Baltimore in A seminarian s pastoral year is a time for further discernment as he works with various parish ministries and learns about parish life. John will be rotating through all of our weekend Masses throughout the coming year, so if you see him, be sure to welcome him to OLMC and take the opportunity to get to know him and help him to know our parish a little better. Ladies of Carmel St. Jude s Guild will meet Tuesday, September 9 th, at 7 pm at Debbie Wakenight s home. The next meeting of the Parish Council is scheduled for Saturday, September 13 th, at 9:00 a.m. in the Commons Meeting Space. Any parishioner, who would like to address the council, can be scheduled by contacting the pastor or council chairperson, Pete Bender at parishcouncil@olmc.org. OLMC Girl Scouts An informational meeting for parents of girls who are interested in joining Girl Scouts will be held on Thursday, September 18 th, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the school cafeteria. At this meeting we will register girls and adults and discuss options for troop placement. Parish Council Openings This Fall we will bring four new members onto the OLMC Parish Council, which serves as an advisory group to the Pastor. Boxes are in the Commons for parishioners to nominate those you feel can serve the Parish in this capacity. The Parish Council normally meets on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00am to about 11:30am. Members duties include leading council prayer, advising our pastor and forming the agenda to shape and guide our parish. A discernment meeting for newly nominated potential Council members will take place on Saturday morning, September 20 th, from 9:00 until noon. You must be present at that meeting to be considered for Parish Council. The nominated must be a registered parishioner of OLMC, 18 years of age, an active practicing Catholic, be involved in the Parish and able to represent the people you will serve. Servicios Incluidos: Evaluación de rutina y tratamiento de enfermedades agudas comunes, incluyendo; infecciones respiratorias, dolores de cabeza, dolores de oídos, y conjuntivitis; vías urinarias e infecciones de la vejiga; gastritis y acideces; erupciones menores de la piel (ronchitas); dolores musculares menores, y condiciones crónicas tales como diabetes e hipertensión. También: Exámenes físicos para escuelas, exámenes físicos para deportes; seguro medico para niños, inscripciones y educación sana. Se esta trabajando para entrenar a personas bilingües para que puedan asistirte en estas clínicas de momento si tu no tienes un traductor, llama a la oficina para que se te asigne uno durante tu visita. Para aquellos que se han inscrito como interpretes estar pendiente de la información, para un entrenamiento de parte de la parroquia. De la manera que Dios nos da la vida, la iglesia siempre esta comprometida a ayudarte a que tengas una buena salud, tanto física como espiritual. FORMACIÓN DE FE PARA NIÑOS Y PREPARACIÓN PARA RECIBIR LOS SACRAMENTO DE LA PRIMERA COMUNIÓN Y PRIMERA RECONCILIACIÓN. Ya están abiertas las registraciones para las familias que deseen inscribir as sus hijos para recibir los sacramentos. Reunidos por la Gracia Este nuevo programa, es una oportunidad para continuar compartiendo un desayuno en familia tanto en nuestra propia familia como también con nuestra familia comunitaria de Fe, conocer a otros feligreses y profundizar mas en nuestra relación con Jesucristo. Damos inicio a nuestra reunión con los alimentos, luego nos dividiremos en grupos de nuestras edades para los talleres.
