We offer inquiry sessions for those who are exploring Catholicism. These sessions provide an opportunity for you to come as you are to a friendly, welcoming, non-pressuring atmosphere to learn more about the Catholic Faith, even if you don t think you ll want to actually become a Catholic. If you desire to take steps towards becoming Catholic, you will have the option to do so, on your own initiative. This process is for the unbaptized, those coming from other faith traditions and baptized Catholics who wish to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. Sandy Layman will be our lead facilitator. She is a member of The Drum Circle Facilitator s Guild. Sandy will lead us through an interactive, recreational rhythm event that promotes team building, wellness and most of all FUN! Thinking about being a Breathe buddy? This is the month to begin! Call now to make a reservation for a night of fun with arts & crafts, games, gym activities, movies, and more! We currently have individuals from 5 yrs to 55 yrs participating. It is a great social outing for our friends and night out for parents! Our next BREATHE Fun Night is FEBRUARY 9 th. SPRED (Special Religious Development) prepares persons with intellectual disabilities to fully belong in the liturgical life of the parish. Catechists welcome their friends into a small faith community where the Word of God is shared through symbolic catechesis. OLMC currently has three SPRED groups (for adults 18yrs and older) that meet on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Children s Faith Formation Contact Cristy at cbarton@olmc.org or ext. 131 Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) KidCheck account required. The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program from Pflaum Publishing Group guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. And then, join us immediately after Thirst adoration for Wine & Cheese and a chance to socialize with other young adults. Mardi Gras Party Carmel Connect Young Adults and CNU CCM will be celebrating Mardi Gras together on Tuesday, February 13. We will have pancakes and other festive foods starting at 7pm. Hockey Night Join other young adults in the region to see a Norfolk Admirals Hockey Game! We will be attending on Friday, February 16 th. The game starts at 7pm. Brunch w/ the Collar Join us at Aromas Coffeehouse after the 10am Mass on Sunday, February 25 th, for brunch with Fr. John David! We will meet after Mass by the Kitchenette before heading over. Aromas is at 706 Town Center Dr., NN. Men from across the diocese will gather at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg for the 6 th Annual Diocesan Catholic Men s Conference. This year s theme, Truly Present, will explore Jesus presence to us and our call to be present in all our relationships in the world as husband, father, brother, and friend. This year will feature a dual-track conference with keynote speakers in English and Spanish, breakout opportunities, reconciliation, adoration, and Mass. The cost for the conference is $55. You can find a link to register for the Diocesan Men s Conference on our parish website, olmc.org. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will be taking two of our new buses to the conference. This will be a great opportunity to bond with other men of our parish on the trip to Williamsburg. There is no cost for riding the bus. We will meet in the Commons of the church at 8:00 a.m. for coffee and donuts, followed by a short prayer service before we leave. If you would like to sign up to ride the bus, please davemazsr@gmail.com. Sacraments Confirmation The next Confirmation meeting will be held on Monday, February 5, at 6:30 in St. Michael Hall. First Sacraments The First Eucharist Parent Retreat will be on Sunday, February 24 th, at 11:15 in St. Michael Hall. This retreat is for the parents of children who have been attending the First Sacraments Workshops and Faith Formation programs, and have received their First Reconciliation. More information will come out soon. Baptisms at OLMC are celebrated several times throughout the year. Whether you are parents-to-be, parents of an infant, or parents of a young child, we invite you to consider having your child baptized into the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Next campaign is February 14 March 25 The mission of the campaign is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40-day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion. SNAP Challenge Coming this Lent! The concept for the SNAP Challenge is to raise awareness of the food choices that low income Americans have to make with the food stamp benefits they receive. The idea is to take the average food stamp benefit (about $30 per person per week) and use only that much money to buy all your food for the whole week. For each week of Lent you will have: a shopping list of items that can be purchased with a $34 (per person) weekly budget, a meal plan for the week (detailing food for every meal), several recipes that can be made with the week s ingredients, a list of left-over meals from previous weeks, and a list of left-over ingredients from previous weeks. Then donate the money you saved to those most poor and vulnerable. More information coming... Caretakers, survivors, and those currently diagnosed with cancer or a chronic illness meet for fellowship, support, and of course, refreshments. OLMC Respite Ministry Do you need help? Are you the sole caretaker of a homebound family member? The Respite Ministry can provide you with several hours free time one day a week. For more information call and ask for Janet G. Card Ministry The OLMC Card Ministry is looking for volunteers. Members of this ministry send greeting cards about once a month to people in local nursing homes and to homebound parishioners to brighten their days. This is a wonderful ministry that can be done from your home in front of your TV. Ladies of Carmel Liturgical Ministries Live Stations of the Cross The bilingual Live Stations of the Cross will be presented on Good Friday, March 30, at 12:15pm. We are looking for people who would like to be involved in the dramatization. You do not have to be bilingual.
