Her parish missions and ministry events have taken her across the United States and abroad. Sarah has performed for countless parishes, conferences, and conventions, as well as for Pope Francis in 2013! She has written several retreats for parish, women s, and adult catechesis, which she herself presents. She is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, and her songs have been recorded by numerous performers and are found in many hymnals. Sarah makes her home in Nashville, TN, with her husband and two awesome teenage daughters. Our retreat day includes breakfast and lunch. A free will offering will help offset expenses. 3 Page 3 May 28, 2017 Staff Extensions Railroad Crossing Closure CSX Railroad has scheduled closures of various railroad crossings beginning Saturday, May 20, for the next several weeks. The closures are necessary to allow for repairs to be completed on the crossings. The closures require traffic to be rerouted, and signage will direct travelers to the detour routes. Each crossing is expected to be closed for two days. The length of closing is dependent upon weather or other unforeseen issues. The crossing at Harpersville Road is scheduled to be closed on Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31. Support our Parish! The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. Back in June! Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. At OLMC, Kingdom Kids Worship is available at the 10:00am Mass on the first, second and third Sunday of the month. Children process out of Mass & return before the Eucharist. New Ministry Team Forming: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Jesus said, Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. Are you passionate about developing the religious potential of young children in an environment that is more a place of worship than a traditional classroom? We ll be playing games, learning, and praying together! All 8 th graders are welcome to come and see what Life Teen is all about, and can meet others who will be growing in faith with them next year. Vocation Retreats Quo Vadis (July 11-14) and Fiat Days (July 26-28) Is your high school teen considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life? Consider sending them to a Diocesan vocation retreat this summer. Quo Vadis is for young men entering 10 th - 12 th grade discerning a call to the priesthood. Fiat Days is for young women in 10 th -12 th grade discerning a call to the religious life. Retreat costs: Quo Vadis - $150, Fiat Days - $125. Fellowship & Thirst: Adoration Thursday, June 1, at 6pm Join other high school teens at St. Michael Hall for dinner and outside games such as soccer and/or basketball. Then, we ll join the Parish for Thirst Adoration. We meet at St. Michael Hall at 6pm and end at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at around 8:45 pm. Come for whatever you can! Young Adults Small Group Book Study May 31 Join other young adults on Wednesdays as we continue learning how to go deeper into mental prayer. We meet in St. Michael Hall at 6:30pm. No need to have come to previous weeks. We'll catch you up! Upper Room College students and recently graduated high school seniors are invited to Upper Room, a night of fellowship, prayer, and growth in faith, beginning on Monday, June 5, from 7:30pm to 9pm in the Gathering Room at the Church. Priestly Ordination Pilgrimage Saturday, June 3 Carpool with other young adults as pilgrimage to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and encourage our new priests to be ordained! Virtus Training The Diocese mandates that all those who minister with children or youth must take this training prior to volunteering. All parents using the Cooperative Nursery at OLMC must be trained as well. Inclusive Ministries Contact Christa Blomstrom at cblomstrom@olmc.org or x107 Annual SPRED Mass: Wednesday, May 31 at 6:30pm at Saint Michael Hall (new location) The SPRED Community of Catechists and Friends with their families will gather on May 31 at 6:30pm at Saint Michael Hall for a special SPRED liturgy. Our SPRED friends are delighted to be included in the liturgical celebrations at OLMC. As a gesture of gratitude to all, we welcome and encourage you to join us for an agape-a simple sharing of food and fellowship-following the Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our SPRED friends, their families and catechists, and to personally extend your welcome. SPRED (Special Religious Development) prepares persons with intellectual disabilities to fully belong in the liturgical life of the parish. Catechists welcome their friends into a small faith community where the Word of God is shared through symbolic catechesis. OLMC currently has three SPRED groups (for adults 18 and older) that meet on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Special Thanks To Our Pregnancy Outreach Volunteers Our Lady of Mt Carmel has an Pregnancy Outreach Office that has a helpline that is available to receive calls from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday and supported by a volunteer donating 40 hours a week. In addition we have teams of volunteers who meet with women, children (and some men) in need, who have chosen life for their child. They provide 15 volunteer hours a week. And to process all of your generous donations we have a volunteer who works over 10 volunteer hours per week. This is amazing! Volunteers answer the phone to schedule appointments, answer questions, provide encouragement, fill out forms to obtain information about the family/individual we are serving, file applications, point out resources that will be of further assistance, and of course provide for the material needs of mother and child. Pregnancy Outreach is a place of joy and celebration of life. Employment Opportunity Admissions Coordinator OLMC School The admissions coordinator will work in the Advancement Office at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and is responsible for discovering, cultivating, and inviting prospective families into OLMC School and ultimately to increase the student body population. Liturgical Ministries Altar Server Training Our seminarian, Chris Masla will be offering three more trainings for NEW altar servers at 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 30 th ; Thursday, June 1 st ; and Wednesday, June 7 th. To become an altar server one must 1) have a strong desire to serve at the altar of our Lord, 2) be a practicing Catholic and a registered member of OLMC parish, and 3) have received your First Holy Communion. We are in need of young servers as well as those in middle and high school, as certain responsibilities pertain to those of younger age, while others are more suited to older servers (such as the Sanctus bells and incense). We welcome new altar servers for all Masses, but are especially in need for the Saturday 5:00pm Vigil Mass and the Sunday 8:00am Mass. Las charlas de Preparación Bautismal para los padres y padrinos son ofrecidas por Walter y María Rivera, acompañado de un equipo de servidores. Para hacer una cita, favor de comunicarse con ellos al IMPORTANTE: Próximas Charlas de Bautismo: Domingo, 28 de Mayo, a las 10:00am en la Cafetería de la Escuela. Atención para los que Quieran la Ceremonia de Quinceañera La celebración de los quince años es una costumbre hispana que celebra la entrada de una joven a la comunidad adulta. Se le ofrece la oportunidad a la joven de renovar sus promesas bautismales y hacer un compromiso de fe ante Dios. La quinceañera debe de estar bautizada y haber hecho su Primera Comunión. La familia debe de estar inscrita en la parroquia y asistiendo a la misa con regularidad por lo menos seis meses. Se requiere que la/el joven asista a un Programa de Formación, 2 meses antes de la Ceremonia. Para más información favor de llamar a la Sra.
