For those who discern the faith, it can lead to reception of the Sacraments of Initiation. It is for those never baptized, those baptized individuals coming from other faith traditions, and for those baptized Catholics who were not raised in the Church and missed celebrating their Sacraments. For children over 7 years of age, the process offers the opportunity to learn about the Catholic faith and celebrate the Sacraments as well. Please consider this journey of faith! Join us at our open house to learn more on Tuesday, May 17 TH, at 7 pm in St. Michael Hall! Adult Faith Formation Lectio Divina for Women All women of the parish are welcome to join one of our Women s Lectio Divina prayer groups. These groups meet twice monthly. One group meets on Friday mornings from 10 until 11 and the other group meets Wednesday evenings from 7 until 8:30. Enjoy some quiet time as we focus and pray over the Scriptures for the upcoming Sunday. Wednesday Evening group: April 27; May 11 & 25 Friday Morning group: May 6 & 20 Meetings are held in the Gathering Room of the Church. Mercy Monday: May 2 nd Mercy Monday is a prayerful gathering with readings, prayer, the music of Taize and quiet time as we reflect, sing and pray about the Mercy of God. In this year of Mercy please join us for this on MONDAY, MAY 2 ND from 7 pm until 8 pm. Each month we also have a short reflection on a Saint (or almost Saint) who exemplified the mercy of God with their lives. This month will highlight Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. The reflection will be offered by Tina Wandersee, our Director of Outreach Ministries. Come, Join Us! Young Adult Ministry Cookout & Campfire Come out next Saturday, April 30, at 6:30pm for a young adult cookout featuring cornhole and a fire pit! First Eucharist Celebrations will be the weekends of April 30 & May 1 and May 7/8. Thank you for all who have been holding these children in prayer. Parents, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the liturgy and check in at the Gathering Room. Confirmation A meeting for the newly confirmed teens will occur 6:30-8:30pm next Sunday, May 1. We will discuss the topic, Where do we go from here? and Confirmation certificates will be given out. Youth Ministry Senior Youth Group meets in St. Michael Hall following the 5pm Mass and wraps up at 8:00pm. All high schoolers are invited! Remaining Meetings: April 24, May 8, 15, & 22, and June 6 SYG Fellowship Teens in high school gather for fun and fellowship on Wednesday nights. Middle School SEARCH Retreat The weekend of May 13-15, St. Jerome Youth Ministry is hosting a SEARCH Retreat at Triple R Ranch in Chesapeake and has invited youth from OLMC to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity for middle schoolers (rising 6 th -8 th graders) as they search out who God is calling them to be. The cost of $125 includes 5 meals, 2 nights lodging, hay rides, bonfires, a low ropes course, and canoeing/another activity. Please consider sending your child to this wonderful retreat opportunity. Children s Faith Formation Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) KidCheck account required The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. Children in the Nursery are invited to share life stories, listen to the Gospel and build Christian relationships. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) YOUTH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Do you regularly attend the 10:00am Mass on Sundays? Consider this your invitation to get involved in the Kingdom Kids Worship Ministry! All that is needed is a willing heart to serve. The leaders do all the planning. 4 Page 4 April 24, 2016 Social Ministry Reflecting Christ Transformed by The Eucharist Reaching Out into community Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith. Its roots are in the Hebrew prophets who announced God's special love for the poor and called God's people to a covenant of love and justice. It is a teaching founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ, who came "to bring glad tidings to the poor... liberty to captives... recovery of sight to the blind"(lk 4:18-19), and who identified himself with "the least of these," the hungry and the stranger (cf. Mt 25:45). Catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. This commitment arises from our experiences of Christ in the Eucharist. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "To receive in truth the Body and Blood of Christ given up for us, we must recognize Christ in the poorest, his brethren" (no. 1397). -From Catholic Social Teaching: Challenges & Directions Blood Drive May 18th OLMC will be hosting a Blood Drive. Volunteers needed to greet donors or assist in the refreshment area. This is such a wonderful ministry of hospitality to those coming to our parish to give blood. Inclusive Ministries Assistive Listening Devices Now Available Do you have trouble hearing the Mass or understanding everything that is said? Our parish now has the ability to offer personal Assisted Listening Devices (ALD s). An ALD is a small, personal receiver device meant to work with or without a hearing aid in order to help ensure that everyone who comes to worship will be able to hear what is being said. These devices will be available for loan during all liturgies. OLMC has 4 ALD receivers with ear buds to be checked out at the Welcome Desk before weekend Masses. If you could benefit from using an ALD during any other gathered event at OLMC please contact the parish office. SPRED (Special Religious Development) Thanks to all who stopped by the SPRED Open House last weekend! If you are interested in walking with one of our SPRED friends on a journey of faith, give us a call. All that is required is an open heart and a willingness to share friendship, joy and celebration in community with others. OLMC currently has three adult SPRED communities. 5 Page 5 April 24, 2016 OLMC Parish News Soul Sisters: April Gathering is THIS FRIDAY What is Soul Sisters you ask? It s not a group you join or a monthly commitment. It s just an opportunity for the ladies of the parish to get together and have some fun. The programs are varied, and we would like to invite all ladies of the Parish to our April offering on Friday, April 29 TH. It s movie night, ladies!!! Come view the movie: WAR ROOM. Every woman at some point (or continually) has prayed for their marriage, children etc. This is a compelling drama with humor and heart exploring the power that prayer can have on so many areas of our lives as women. Esto permite a amigos, familiares o feligreses, poder organizar y ayudar en cualquier forma. En este caso, llevamos alimentos a los familiares y a los que ayudan con el cuidado del enfermo, etc. Es usted ese feligrés que necesita ayuda o conoce a alguien que podría usar este servicio.
