Bags of Hope Bags of Hope fills backpacks with food every week, delivering them to roughly 190 kids right here in Plainfield School District 202 whose families are struggling to make ends meet at home. St. Francis Xavier is collecting food 5/5 and 5/6 Canned vegetables, canned fruits, macaroni and cheese, pasta, rice, instant oatmeal, cereals, cereal bars, canned soups, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, hot cocoa, canned pasta sauce, tomatoes, canned pastas (ie: Spaghetti O s), canned chili, beans, canned pasta sauce, canned tuna, canned chicken, and individual snacks such as granola bars, fruit chews, snacks, pudding, applesauce, cookies, crackers, chips, raisins, and cheese and crackers. Together we can end hunger in our own community. 2 A Message from Our Pastor Dear Brothers and Sisters May is traditionally dedicated to the Virgin Mary and on this Sunday our first communicants will honor Mary by crowning her with a crown of flowers. We congratulate them and pray for them on their journey of Faith. It was Mary who said yes to the Angel Gabriel when she was asked to be mother of God s son. The Hail Mary which we pray is a scripture based prayer a combination of the Angel and Elizabeth s greeting to Mary. During the month of May I would invite you to pray that prayer as often as you can either on its own or in the rosary. When we honor Mary we also honor our mother s and the sacrifices they made and make for us. This month as you for us, also ask her to pray for all mothers and their children. Pray for us O Holy Mother of God that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. For futher information call or visit their website at Fr Karl Remember St. Francis Xavier Parish in your Prayers Knights of Columbus During the entire month of May, the St. Francis Xavier Knights of Columbus will once again be holding our annual "Baby Shower" with the items collected going to the Guardian Angel Home in Joliet. Baby food, diapers, formula, onesies, toys and monetary donations will be accepted and appreciated. We cannot accept car seats or strollers. A playpen will be set up in the Narthex by the Knights table. Thank you for all you do. Are you a Cornhole player? Well if you are or just want to join us for a fun afternoon, the SFX Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Bags tournament on Sunday, June 24th. Mark your calendars. More information to follow. Proceeds will go to the Pavilion fund. Did you ever think about becoming a Knight? Do you wish to join us on our journey to help the Parish and our community? On May 2nd, the St. Francis Xavier Knights of Columbus Council #14283 will be celebrating our 11th anniversary of being chartered. We are a Catholic hotline providing counseling and referral assistance to anyone struggling to find his or her way back to God or a more rational life. We help everyone regardless of their faith or background. To be a phone counselor, you don t need experience in mental health or phone work, although that background is helpful. What you will need is a love of people and a strong desire to help the lonely, frightened, and confused. We provide all the training. Baptisms: Are celebrated on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. Call the church office for open dates. Marriages: Please contact the parish office at the beginning of your wedding planning to check if your wedding date is available and to start the marriage preparation process. A minimum of six(6) months in advance of your wedding date is a requirement of the Joliet diocese. Weddings are celebrated at Noon or 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Quinceanara Must contact the parish 3 months prior to the requested date RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For adults interested in becoming Catholic, RCIA prepares them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adult Catholics in need of Confirmation are also invited. The formal program meets weekly from October through May.
