As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance from him and raised their voices, saying, Jesus, Master! Have pity on us! And when he saw them, he said, Go show yourselves to the priests. As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God? Then he said to him, Stand up and go; your faith has saved you. (Luke 17: 11-19) During Jesus time, leprosy was thought to be contagious and made one religiously "unclean" and an outcast. Both the physical symptoms and the exclusion from human community caused untold suffering. Into this situation of hopelessness, the power of God comes to save and heal. The leprosy of sin still haunts our world but can no longer alienate us from God or one another. We have been set free from its power. God's immeasurable mercy cleanses us and makes us whole again. As the one leper who returned to Jesus, we too should give thanks to God. 2 Mass Intentions for the Week Monday 10 October 8:30 AM Bill Heisler Carol Robinson Roy Schaefer Tuesday 11 October 8:30 AM Elias Chaanine Josephine Licha Fadwa Chaanine Wednesday 12 October 8:30 AM Holy Souls Pearl Ventimiglia Thursday 13 October 8:30 AM Joe and Frances Kolich Joe Kolich, Jr. Friday 14 October 8:30 AM Kevin Ubay-Ubay Ida Blanche Mendonsa Domingo de Guzman, Sr. Saturday, 15 October 8:30 AM Ida Blanche Mendonsa 5:00 PM PRO POPULO Sunday 16 October 7:00 AM Grace Pagan 8:30 AM Ruth Schrad 10:15 AM Dr. Paul T. 3 Monthly Adoration The Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ and He calls us to spend time with Him in prayer and adoration. Each month, we have a 24-hour Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We encourage you to consider spending some time with Christ, present in the Blessed Sacrament. Morning, afternoon, and evening time slots are available. Our next 24-hour adoration is November 7-8. As Jesus said to his apostles who slept while he prayed in the Garden prior to his arrest and crucifixion, Could you not spend one hour with me? Ushers Needed for All Masses Ushers are needed for all Masses. This is a great way to become involved in our parish. Teenagers, adults, and families are welcome to participate in this ministry. Volunteers generally serve two times per month at the Mass you regularly attend. If you would like to join the Usher ministry, please contact Will Lorenz, head Usher at or Wlorenz66@gmail.com. Parish Ministries Save the Date San Francisco Solano s semi-annual Blood Drive will be held Sunday, October 16, from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the basement of the Youth Faith Formation building. Walk-ins are always accepted if you don t make an appointment. A note from Father Ted... I regret to announce that Juliana Gerace will not continue as Director of Faith Formation at San Francisco Solano parish. I am grateful for the good work she has done in her few months with us, particularly in conducting the class for Basic Certification for a number of our catechists. Members of our current Faith Formation staff will continue to carry forward the important work of assisting our parents in raising their children in the faith and in preparing them for the Sacraments. Children Of Christ s Heart Children of Christ s Heart is a ministry for the families of children with special needs any diagnosis. We meet to discuss our fears, concerns and frustrations. We address those issues with prayer, emotional support, shared ideas, and information about resources and community agencies that might be able to provide assistance. The leaders of this ministry are not only parishioners here, but are both parent mentors with Family Support Network of Orange County and we have a great deal of knowledge about community resources, IEP preparation and the ins and outs of having a child with special needs, as we both have children with special needs. If you are feeling overwhelmed with your situation or if you would just like to reach out to others who share your experience, please join us. We meet here at the parish, in the parish lounge, on the third Wednesday of every month (except July and August) from 10:00 AM to Noon. The remaining dates for this year are October 19, November 16, December TBD, January 25, February 22, March 22, April 19, May 17, and June 21. Our September session will focus on the Individualized Education Plan and how to prepare for that meeting. If you are unable to attend but would still like support, please contact the coordinator, Maura Mo Byron at either (949) or via at 5byrons@cox.net. 3 GRUPO DE ORACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL DE SFS Los invitamos a que nos acompañen a alabar a Dios y meditar en las escrituras con otros feligreses que hablan español. Yet, how many of us have actually read and studied the Bible and know what s in it? San Francisco Solano s evening Bible study group began its 2016 summer session with the Gospel of Mark. Our mission is to discover the Bible systematically, verse-by-verse, Genesis through Revelation, utilizing a combination of audio taught by renowned literary scholar, Dr. Bill Creasy.
