3 Parish Ministries Evening Bible Study The Bible Plain and Simple Scripture plays a central role in our Catholic faith. The entire first half of Mass is the liturgy of the Word, with a homily applying the weekly scriptures to our lives. Yet, how many of us have actually read and studied the Bible and know what s in it? San Francisco Solano s Evening Bible Study is a multi-year course: The Bible Plain and Simple. Our mission is to discover the Bible systematically, verse-byverse, Genesis through Revelation, utilizing a combination of audio and video taught by renowned literary scholar, Dr. Bill Creasy, who has been called a Catholic Bible teacher extraordinaire! We are currently studying the Gospel of John. All attendees must register at the Logos Bible Study link: Come join us at any time for coffee and dessert as we study the Bible. It is at the heart of our life of faith. As Catholics, we proclaim our belief that the bread and wine consecrated during Mass become Christ Himself--His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity- Holy Communion. We do not believe it is just a symbol. Once consecrated, it is not merely a cracker, a piece of bread or a cup of wine. With eyes of faith we see the Body and Blood of Christ. We meet Jesus present sacramentally. Our spiritual life is not limited solely to participation in the Mass. Pope Saint John Paul II called worship of the Most Holy Eucharist outside of Mass an important daily practice that becomes an inexhaustible source of holiness and a practice of inestimable value for the life of the Church. At San Francisco Solano church, we have Eucharistic Adoration with Exposition every Friday of the month right after morning Mass. On the First Friday, Adoration takes place from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM. All other Fridays of the month, Adoration takes place from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. As the morning Mass ends, the Blessed Sacrament is placed in a beautiful stand known as a monstrance on the main altar of the church, and Jesus Christ is exposed in the Blessed Sacrament for all to see. We must have committed worshippers who follow an hourly schedule for visiting Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament to ensure that the Eucharist is never without veneration. We have an electronic sign-up on the parish website: Please prayerfully consider your availability to come to Adoration and spend time with Christ. Everyone is welcome to come spend time in the presence of Christ for as short or as long a time as you like. Come adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament even if you are not a scheduled adorer. 4 Women s Circle of Faith and Friendship A new season of Women's Circle of Faith & Friendship begins on Tuesday, September 11. You are invited to explore this program, which has been described as a spa for your soul. Women's Circle is a peer ministry for adult women of all ages and stages of life, offering an opportunity to nurture your spirituality, deepen your faith and build community with others. This season we will be using the book, Heaven Starts Now Becoming a Saint Day by Day, by Catholic Pastor and author Fr. John Riccardo. Fr. Riccardo helps us dive into the Scriptures so that we can apply them to our daily lives. In his inspiring and incisive way, Fr. Riccardo addresses the obstacles we all face in becoming mature disciples. How do we learn to forgive? How do we combat fear and understand suffering? How do we worship the Lord, love others as Christ loves us, and fully surrender our lives to God? Come join other women of the parish as we explore these questions. Together we can learn how to live as a reflection of Christ and see how Heaven can start now. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays at 9:30-11:30 AM and will be repeated at 6-8 PM beginning Tuesday, September 11, and concluding Tuesday, November 27. 6 Children of Christ s Heart Children of Christ s Heart is partnering with Family Support Network of Orange County to facilitate a Parent-to-Parent Support Group meeting on the third Fridayof each month in the Parish Center lounge. The group is intended for anyone offering care and support for a child or young adult with special needs. In addition to a spiritually based, emotionally supportive environment, we will offer presentations on topics of interest and assistance with IEPs, Regional Center, California Children s Services and CalOptima. Parish Ministries SFS Community Food Bank An outreach to the local community since October Our mission to serve those who live locally and come to us for assistance has been in action for 25 years! The council has donated money to the SFS Food Bank and the RSM Food Pantry, and member Knights volunteer their time at both these food banks. In addition, our members also volunteer at the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa, donating time, money, coats, and blankets over the last year. Our council works hard to help keep people fed.
