3 Proclamation of Praise (Matthew 1:20-23) An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means, God with us. Hymn Hark! The Herald Angels Sing 1 Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn king; peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled. Joyful, all you nations, rise; join the triumph of the skies; with angelic hosts proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem! mendelssohn Refrain Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn king! 2 Hail the heav n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, ris n with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, born that we no more may die, born to raise each child of earth, born to give us second birth. Refrain Prayer Emmanuel, God with us, You are our everything. Open our eyes, our minds and our hearts to your presence. Make yourself and your message of love be born in us anew this day. Join our voices with the praise of the angels. Amen Christmas Eve Family 3

Refrain Gloria in excelsis Deo; gloria in excelsis Deo. 2 Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? What the gladsome tidings be which inspire your heav nly song? Refrain 3 Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing; come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn king. Refrain Anthem 2:00 Jesus-God s Gift Dale Peterson Choristers 4:00 Go Light Your World Chris Rice; arr. Pote Middle School Choir Lesson John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 4 Christmas Eve Family

5 Hymn Go Tell It on the Mountain go tell it Refrain Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev rywhere; go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born! 1 While shepherds kept their watching o er silent flocks by night, behold, throughout the heavens there shone a holy light. Refrain 2 Down in a lonely manger the humble Christ was born; and God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn. Refrain Holy Gospel Luke 2:1-7 In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Hymn Away in a Manger away in a manger Away in a manger, no crib for his bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head; the stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay; the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. 6 Holy Gospel Luke 2:8-11 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. Hymn Joy to the World 1 Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive its King; let ev ry heart prepare him room and heav n and nature sing, and heav n and nature sing, and heav n, and heav n and nature sing. antioch 2 He rules the world with truth and grace and makes the nations prove the glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love, and wonders of his love, and wonders, wonders of his love. Lesson Colossians 1:25-27 God s plan was to make me a servant of his church and to send me to preach his complete message to you. For ages and ages this message was kept secret from everyone, but now it has been explained to God s people. God did this because he wanted you Gentiles to understand his wonderful and glorious mystery. And the mystery is that Christ lives in you, and he is your hope of sharing in God s glory. Hymn O Little Town of Bethlehem 1 O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by; yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light. The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. st. louis 2 O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; oh, come to us, abide with us, our Lord Immanuel! Sermon In, With, and For!
