Our offering will be for the Micah Center. CHURCH FAMILY Our condolences to Art & Judy Jongsma (district #10) in the passing of Art s brother, Herm, who died September 29 at the age of 86. The family is thankful he is free from the severe dementia he has suffered with. WELCOMING A NEW BABY: We are growing! Let s celebrate the birth of our newest covenant child: Lazarus Glenn, born to Kyle and Rebecca Heys. You are invited to place cards, small gifts, or baby items in the bassinet in the narthex. MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS THANKYOU: We were glad to welcome a large group to our annual missions lunch last Sunday. How amazing to be able to video chat with our missionaries in the cloud forest of Guatemala, where we will send a delegation in the spring to learn and assist with the work! Please prayerfully consider your monthly pledge for the next twelve months, fill out a yellow slip, keep the left side, and drop the right side in the collection plate today, or in the missions mail slot anytime. Then allow God to help you provide that monthly commitment. You will be encouraged as God makes it possible. Today ADULT EDUCATION: Ministry as if the Twenty-first Century Mattered, Presenter: Rev. Gary J. Bekker, Director of the Timothy Leadership Training Institute. The call to tell the gospel and show its implications rests on God s people until our Lord returns. How the telling and showing are best done ought to match the features, challenges, and opportunities of the particular age in which one is called to serve. This presentation opens up ways of thinking about the features and challenges of the age in which our Lord calls us to serve Him, and suggests ways of serving within the opportunities that our Lord has opened for us. Next Sunday ADULT EDUCATION (After the Congregatational Meeting): God s Promises through Disability: A Personal Story, Presenter: Mrs. Gwen Heys. In conversation with her son Kyle, Gwen Heys shares the story of her son Kevin and learning about love, faithfulness, and God's promises. VISUAL ARTS: The current show of internationally acclaimed artist, John Swanson, is on loan from the Catholic Information Center. These serigraph prints illustrate current social justice issues. Please take time to reflect on the powerful message this art represents. SENIORS BREAKFAST: A warm welcome awaits Calvin Church Seniors who come to breakfast at the Omelette Shoppe in Breton Village Monday morning that s tomorrow. Meet in the private room at 8:30 and order from the menu. The company of fellow senior members is always welcome.

7 CALVIN CHURCH BOOK CLUB will meet in the Lounge tomorrow at 4:00 PM to discuss the memoir Ruined by Ruth Everhart which includes events that happened here in our own neighborhood almost forty years ago. Light refreshments are included. WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY meets Wednesdays, from 9:30 11:00 AM in room 1. Pastor Cal Van Reken leads us in a study of Fruit of the Spirit. THE CALVIN CHURCH CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meetings are held for one hour at 4:00 PM the second Wednesday of each month (year round) in the church office conference room. Patients, and their caregivers, who are dealing in any way with the effects of cancer are invited to attend. Pastor Jake will moderate during Pastor Rebecca s maternity leave. For additional information call the church office at or Mr. Hecker at BLOOD DRIVE: We have only 17 signed up for our blood drive this coming Wednesday, and we have available time slots for 35. Would you be able to give one hour to save lives with a donation? You may come between 2:30 and 7:15 PM. If you are age 17 to 100, you may donate if you are healthy. Please call or Judy Bode to reserve your time or if you have any questions regarding what donation entails. Goodies provided! FAMILY SUPPER: A light supper will be provided at church on October 11 for adults and their children, especially those involved in Wednesday evening programming. A donation from each family will cover the cost of the meal. Districts 3 and 4 will serve food from 5:00-6:30 and provide nursery care from 5:30-7:00. FAMILY ASSISTANCE is very busy and we need your help. Please come by any time, Tuesday or Thursday from 9:30 12:00 and 1:00-3:00. As always, come when you can and leave when you must. COLLEGE LUNCH PROVIDERS? Would you be interested in extending your hospitality to the College and Career group by providing a meal for them on a Sunday afternoon? We are blessed to have a number of college students regularly attending our church. Our hope is to offer one lunch per month for these students as a way to welcome them into our community and get to know them a bit better. 10 Growing in Discipleship Transformed for Ministry Welcome to Calvin Church In Worship: Our worship proceeds unannounced and follows the printed liturgy. The Chancel banner expresses the Christian belief that in one God there are three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The color green represents spiritual growth during the season of the Lord s life and ministry. Large print resources are available at the information desk. Adult coloring pages are on the TRIP table in the narthex. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs in room 19 prior to the morning worship. K-2 nd : After the Children s Message the Children s Worship ministry meets downstairs in rooms 11 & 13 until the conclusion of worship. Parents meet their children there following the service. Busy Bags for young children are on the picket fence in the atrium. Bulletins for older children are in the rack in the narthex. Coloring pages and colored pencils are available at the table in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service.
