And being found in human form, he humbled himself... The colors and materials of the Christmas banner reflect God s glory manifest in the humble setting of the incarnation of Jesus Christ. The flowers in the atrium have been placed by Cathy MacLeod with thanks to God for His providence and blessings to Doug and herself during thirty years of ministry. Please thank God with us, for He is good. Large print resources are available at the information desk. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs prior to the morning worship. Children s Bulletins are in the holder in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service. This morning we serve cinnamon scones and raspberrychocolate scones made by Cathy MacLeod in recognition of Pastor Doug's 30th anniversary of his ordination. An introductory church DVD is available at the Information Desk. All of our ministries are described in the colorful folders on the table near the nurseries. 5 Calvin CRC Announcements for January 4, 2015 WORSHIP Today, January 4 Morning Worship: This morning we welcome soloist Church Witteveen to our worship. Rev. MacLeod is preaching from Hebrews 10:23, "Hold Fast." Our offerings are for Refugee Resettlement. Evening Worship: We gather at 5:00 PM at Neland Ave. CRC (940 Neland Ave SE) for a worship service and coffee fellowship with members of several congregations from Classis GR East. We celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany with music, scripture and song, remembering the visit of the Magi to the Christ child. Rev. Leonard Vander Zee is preaching, and an offering will be received for ACCESS of West Michigan. WORSHIP Next Sunday, January 11, Epiphany Morning Worship: Our Sanctuary Choir will lead us in worship, and Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys will preach from Mark 1:1-11. Our offerings will be for Mission Outreach. Evening Worship: We will enjoy an evening of food, fellowship, and worship with our brothers and sisters from St Luke AME Zion Church. We'll gather in our fellowship hall at 5:00 PM. Members of both congregations are invited to bring plenty of food to share (A-M hot foods, N-Z salads or desserts). Our offerings will be for Home Repair Services. STAFF NOTE Pastor Bob is preaching at East Martin CRC this morning as well as next Sunday morning. CHURCH FAMILY Thank you for the poignant messages about my dear husband's passing; for the plant and cards sharing the joys of Christmas with me; for your prayers for me. SUMMER YOUTH TRIP: High school youth, be sure to have contacted Char if you are planning to attend the summer service trip to Crown Point, Indiana, June 20 to 27, A deposit of $100, payable to Calvin CRC, is due by January 18 for all SERVE attendees. We will be working in urban worksites in NE Indiana and in the Chicago area, and partnering with organizations like Faith & Action, NWI Food Bank, Chicago Prison Outreach and Urban Faith Works. We will stay at First CRC of Crown Point, IN. MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS Today ADULT EDUCATION: Stan Wiersma used his unique folk poetry as a medium to celebrate and to censure the special character of the Dutch immigrant culture and faith tradition from which he came, remnants of which may still be alive among us. Presenter, Henry Baron, will guide us through humorous as well as poignant sketches in Purpaleanie and Style and Class, as the poet holds up the mirror to our human nature. Next Sunday ADULT EDUCATION: The Heidelberg Catechism is one of our most beloved confessions of faith. The beautiful Q&A 1 is a bedrock of faith for many Christian believers that have been shaped by the Reformed tradition. Yet the catechism s treatment of the atonement carries with it some deep questions. Does the Catechism portray a calculating God of wrath and revenge? Does it suggest that God was angry with his only begotten Son? Does salvation seem to happen because of a cosmic calculation of sorts? These are difficult and important questions. Presenter, Rev. Leanne Van Dyk will explore some of those questions and suggest some answers. Not all our questions

7 will be answered completely. We will practice a certain welcoming of the hard questions as an acceptable perhaps even a necessary feature of our faith. NOTE CARD FUNDRAISER: Orders for note cards featuring photographs taken by our high school youth and leaders can be placed by using the forms in the office copy room. Several posters of the note cards are available to help you in your selection of specific cards. Filled orders of note cards with envelopes will generally be available two weeks after received, and will be placed in your church mailbox. Card costs: 1 to 7 cards are $2 each; or 8 for $14 or 12 for $20. About 85% of sales will directly support our high school youth attending SERVE in Crown Point, Indiana this summer. FAMILY ASSISTANCE: After some delays, the current schedule for moving the shelving into the Family Assistance building is for January 13 or later. FOOD COORDINATORS NEEDED: In the new year, Calvin Church will be providing a community supper on the third Wednesday of each month. Are you called to join others in serving as a food coordinator for this exciting new ministry? Contact Pastor Rebecca. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21: Come and enjoy a casual community supper at church. The food will be served before music rehearsals and children's programming. Stay tuned for more information.
