5 Calvin CRC Announcements for August 14, 2016 WORSHIP Today, 10 AM and 5 PM Morning worship: Our own Jean Ver Hulst is our soloist and Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys preaches from 2 Kings 5:1-19, No Such Thing as a Free Lunch. Evening worship: Rev. MacLeod preaches from Genesis 32, The Main Event. WORSHIP Next Sunday, August 21 Morning worship: Rev. MacLeod s farewell message will be based on Colossians 3:12-17, And Be Thankful. Our offering will be for the Ministry Fund. Following the morning service, all are welcome to a farewell reception for Pastor Doug and Cathy MacLeod in the Fellowship Hall. Evening worship: Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys will preach from Luke 13:10-17, Standing Up Straight. Our offering will be for Wings of Mercy. STAFF NOTES: Char Bulthuis will be on vacation this coming week. She will return to the church office on August 24. CHURCH FAMILY The flowers in the sanctuary and the rolls for coffee are in celebration of Richard and Sylvia Wevers 60 th Wedding Anniversary. We rejoice with Merin Cok (district 7) and Travis DeKruyter, who were married at Calvin Church on August 6. We rejoice with Kim Anton and Jesse Keegstra (district 5), who were married at Calvin Church on August 13. Irene Wiersma (district 7) is at Clark Home for rehab following her recent hospitalization. 6 CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES Thanks to all who volunteered for SpringHill Day Camp. We had a total of 66 campers. The excitement the camp staff shared for Jesus was infectious. PARTICIPATION/RELEASE FORMS: Please complete your Participation/Release Form for children and youth in grades 2 nd through 12 th and place the form in either Char s box or the Policy Box near the staff boxes by August 21. All children in one family can be listed on the same form. Extra forms are available at the information desk. Thank you! MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS FUNDRAISER EARNINGS: Thanks to all who participated in our CYG Money Wall fundraiser for our youth who attended the Colorado Challenge spiritual growth trip this June. Donations totaled $5, which was one of our biggest fundraisers ever! We are blessed by and thankful for this generous giving. COURIER ARTICLES: Articles for the September Courier are due to Clare Walhout (clarewalhout@gmail.com) by Saturday, August 20. MINISTRY KICK-OFF SUNDAY: August 28 is the day we celebrate the many ministries of Calvin Church. Come to the Fellowship Hall after the morning service and enjoy exhibits representing all activities we have at Calvin CRC, along with the desserts provided at these tables. VIS LEADERSHIP TRAINING: Volunteers in Service is holding its annual Leadership Training Event on the evening of Tuesday, September 13 at Calvin College. There are workshop topics relevant for pastors, elders, deacons, and anyone else in ministry leadership. For workshop details please visit the VIS website at A Calvin Church group plans to register and attend together. If you would like to join us, contact the church office by August 16. Council members may sign up at the August 16 meeting. INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING? We are seeking a volunteer to teach 3 rd through 5 th grade Church School. 7 REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS Saturday, August 20, The Hope Heralds will be in concert at the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds in Grand Haven, MI. The concert will begin at 7 PM in our new, air-conditioned Worship Center. No tickets are needed for our concert; however, a free will offering will be taken to defray the cost of our music ministry. 8 Growing in Discipleship Transformed for Ministry August 14, 2016 Sunday Worship 10:00 AM & 5:00 PM Welcome to Calvin Church In Worship: Our worship proceeds unannounced and follows the printed liturgy. The Chancel banner expresses the Christian belief that in one God there are three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The color green represents growth in this season of the church year. Large print resources are available at the information desk. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs in room 19 prior to the morning worship. Busy Bags for young children are on the picket fence in the atrium. Bulletins for older children are in the rack in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service. An introductory church DVD is available at the Information Desk. All of our ministries are described in the colorful folders at the Information Desk near the nurseries.
