Please talk with Char this week if you are interested in applying to the Facing Your Future program at Calvin Seminary. Applications and recommendations are due to Facing Your Future by February 23, The program takes place July 8 through July 29, MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS Today ADULT EDUCATION: The Heidelberg Catechism is one of our most beloved confessions of faith. The beautiful Q&A 1 is a bedrock of faith for many Christian believers that have been shaped by the Reformed tradition. Yet the catechism s treatment of the atonement carries with it some deep questions. Does the Catechism portray a calculating God of wrath and revenge? Does it suggest that God was angry with his only begotten Son? Does salvation seem to happen because of a cosmic calculation of sorts? These are difficult and important questions. Presenter, Rev. Leanne Van Dyk explores some of those questions and suggest some answers. Not all our questions will be answered completely. We will practice a certain welcoming of the hard questions as an acceptable perhaps even a necessary feature of our faith.
7 Next Sunday No Adult Education session due to the new Family Assistance Building Open House. NOTECARD FUNDRAISER: Notecard orders of photographs taken by our high school youth and leaders can be placed by using the forms in the office copy room. Several posters of the note cards will be available to help you in your selection of specific cards. Filled orders of note cards with envelopes should be available 2 weeks after received, and will be placed in your church mailbox. Card costs: 1 to 7 cards are $2 each; or 8 for $14 or 12 for $20. Thank you for your purchases! ENJOY THE CITY EARNINGS: We were able to raise $310 toward our high school youth summer SERVE trip from our sales of Enjoy the City coupon books. Thank you for your kind support. SENIORS: Start the new year by joining the Friendship Breakfast at The Omelette Shoppe in Breton Village the second Monday of each month that s tomorrow morning at 8:30. All are invited and newcomers are encouraged to join in fellowship. WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY: Join us on Wednesday, January 14 at 9:30 AM as we study Revelation 8-9 led by Pastor Rebecca. Study sheets are on the table in the narthex. January 18 FAMILY ASSISTANCE BUILDING DEDICATION: Our building will be essentially complete. Although the ministry won't actually move in for a few weeks in order to be sure every element is in place before we relocate inventory and resume operations in the new facility, this service is timed to celebrate completion of construction and to involve Pastor Doug before his sabbatical. Elements in the morning service and in the Fellowship Room after the service will help us launch the next phase of this ministry. While the coffee and ceremony will be in the Fellowship Room to assure access for all, the new building will be open for viewing. Guests are warmly invited. Note also that a ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for spring with anticipation of participation and attendance by referring caseworkers, neighbors, and interested others. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21: A light supper will be provided at church for young adults and their children, especially those involved in Wednesday evening programming. A suggested donation from each family will cover the cost of the meal. Food will be served from 5:00-6:30, and nursery care will be provided from 5:30-7:00. Please sign up at the welcome counter or contact Pastor Rebecca. SAVE THE DATE: Young adults (20s, 30s, 40s), mark Friday, January 30 on your calendars for a game night at church.
