4 Calvin CRC Announcements for June 26, 2016 WORSHIP Today, 10 AM and 5 PM Morning worship: Our own Jay Lindquist leads us in ministry of music, and Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys preaches from Luke 9:51-62, Dedicated. The offering is for Safe Haven Ministries. Evening worship: We welcome members of Woodlawn CRC to worship with us here at Calvin Church as we enjoy a congregational hymnsing, and Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys preaches from Psalm 77, Even Now, God Is Here. The offering is for Global Gifts. WORSHIP Next Sunday, July 3 Morning worship: Rev. MacLeod will be preaching from John 14:5-6, The Way. Soloist Bill Reed will join us and the offering will be for Spring Hill Day Camp. Evening worship: You are all invited to worship with Woodlawn CRC at 5 PM. Pastor Bryant DeKruyter will lead the service. COUNCIL NEWS At its meeting Tuesday night, Council approved a roster of persons to work on the Planning and Vision Committee and for the committee to begin work. This committee will be reviewing the work of Calvin Church, engaging the congregation in conversation about the mission and vision of our church, and making recommendations for our continuing work in God s world. We look forward to their recommendations. Council also heard a report from Pastor Rebecca as she shared her goals for the year, received news about the financial picture, and reports from the other committees at work within our congregation. Council approved the traditional practice of not having Elder-Deacon-Council meetings in July. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask your Elder or Deacon for more information. The Second CRC of Fremont, MI has announced it is extending a call to Rev. MacLeod for their pastoral opening. Additionally the Council of the Second CRC of Grand Haven is also recommending to their congregation that they call Rev. MacLeod. Pastor MacLeod and the Council invite your prayerful participation in our collectively asking for God's will to be sought.

Pray for a safe return of our high school Youth Group and leaders. They are expecting to arrive back in Grand Rapids late this evening after a week at the Colorado Challenge. Dear Friends in Christ, Thank you so much for your very generous and ongoing support to CRWM in support of our family and the ministry of the International Christian School of Vienna. We are so thankful for your prayers and your generous financial support over the past six years. Both are so vital to sustain us and the school. As we finish out this year and our service at ICSV, we are thankful to see the ways God has been at work in the lives of this year s 24 graduates and the other 200 students at the school. But that story is not just about what happens in Vienna; you, too, as prayer and financial supporters are a key part of that story. The story of Christian teachers making an impact and sharing with students the good news found in Jesus Christ. Thank you for faithfully being a part of the gospel-sharing work of ICSV. Please pray for us as we finish up our work in the next few weeks and prepare for our move back to Grand Rapids. Once we get settled we will plan to visit you and share our stories and our thanks with you in person. We look forward to connecting with you then. Thank you for being a blessing to us and ICSV! FOOD TRUCK: July 7, 4:00 6:00 PM. Calling ALL middle and high school youth: please contact Char if you would like to help pass out food at the Feeding America food truck at Sigsbee School. This is the second food truck that our congregation is supporting this summer. It is a wonderful way to show our presence and care in our local community! Our next food truck is scheduled for August 4.

6 MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS FAMILY PROMISE THANK YOU: Thank you to everyone who helped make our Family Promise Week a success! Preparing meals, providing baked goods, playing with the kids, staying overnight, movers, laundry, everyone who volunteered we thank you! Our next turn comes the week of November Keep this program in your prayers and consider volunteering. Kris, Judy, Karen, and Cindy. COLORADO CHALLENGE: Thank you for your prayers! The high school youth and leaders appreciate the generous and kind and prayerful support that you, our Calvin CRC congregation, have given them. God is Good. Our group is scheduled to arrive home to the Amtrak Train station in Grand Rapids at 11:39 PM tonight. SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM: Next week we start our 7 th year of offering a summer learning experience for elementary students from Campus Elementary and other neighborhood GRPS schools. Our theme for this year is Michigan is a Great Place to Live and Play and we will visit wonderful places around West Michigan. We still need a few volunteers. We need one more high school or college student to help in our 2 nd grade classroom. We also need two people to help with child care during a few of the mornings (Tuesdays and Thursdays), We could also use life jackets for elementary age students. If you can loan us one, please write your name on it and leave it in the office. If there is no name, we will assume you don't need it back. Questions contact Jan Wilkins at CHURCH IN COMMUNITY: Show support for our neighborhood join a Calvin Church group participating in the Hollyhock Lane parade! It's on Monday, July 4 at 8:30 AM. Bob Houskamp s 1930 Ford will be the float, and you can join us in two ways. Sign up on the list in the atrium. 1. Donate a bag of small candy (like tootsie rolls) for us to hand out during the parade. Bring it to church by Sunday, July Most important walk with us during the parade! (wagons and strollers are welcome, too!) Meet at the corner of Calvin and Alexander at 8:00 AM. Contact Pastor Rebecca if you have questions or if you d like to sign up. DAY CAMP VOLUNTEERS needed!!! There are many ways our congregation can get involved to witness this amazing week at Calvin, August Please stop by the Spring Hill table as you enter the fellowship hall after the morning service and sign up. If you can only commit to an hour on Monday morning, then the registration check in is for you! If you feel the call to be a host family, then come and find out more about hosting our Spring Hill counselors for the week! 8 Welcome to Calvin Church In Worship: Our worship proceeds unannounced and follows the printed liturgy. The Chancel banner expresses the Christian belief that in one God there are three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The color green represents growth in this season of the church year. Large print resources are available at the information desk. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs prior to the morning worship. Busy Bags for young children are on the picket fence in the atrium. Bulletins for older children are in the rack in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service. An introductory church DVD is available at the Information Desk. All of our ministries are described in the colorful folders at the Information Desk near the nurseries.
