Our Missions banner was inspired by the words of Jesus in John 4:35: I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. The stalk of golden wheat and the vast, field-like shape signify the Great Commission. Large print resources are available at the information desk. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs prior to the morning worship. K-2 nd : After the Children s Message the Children s Worship ministry meets downstairs until the conclusion of worship. Parents meet their children there following the service. Children s Bulletins are in the holder in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service. An introductory church DVD is available at the Information Desk. All of our ministries are described in the colorful folders at the Information Desk near the nurseries. MacLeod's text for the message, "Our Living Testimony." Evening Worship: This evening the Mission Committee invites everyone to a Bangladesh Chicken Dinner prepared by Wade Remer. Each family is invited to bring a salad or a dessert to share. Wade and Joy Remer serve with Wycliffe USA in the "Gift in Kind" department. Wade is the department director and Joy assists him in the tasks of promoting Wycliffe and receiving donated items for Wycliffe's use. WORSHIP Next Sunday, October 18 Morning Worship: Our Covenant and Cherub choir will be singing next Sunday morning and Rev. Jordan Heys will be preaching from 1 Timothy 4:6-16. Our offerings will be for the Ministry Fund. Evening Worship: Our Sanctuary Choir joins us for worship and the troubling text of Genesis 19:30-38 will be our text for Rev. MacLeod's message, "How To Breed a Lot of Trouble." Our offerings will be for Wedgewood Christian Services. COUNCIL NEWS To our friends at Calvin CRC, Thank you SO MUCH for your tremendous generosity in providing food for our shelter through your reverse food offering this month. We are so blessed by your faithful care for and support of women and children who have suffered the traumas of domestic abuse. Thank you for choosing to love our clients as Jesus loves them, and for being his hands and feet by caring for their most fundamental needs. We could not do what we do without you! (dues) Family Assistance I.C.C.F Subtotal Community Care 2, Total Offerings $63, CHURCH FAMILY Funeral services for Jeanette Doezema (district 2) were held this past Thursday. Our sympathies are extended to Mark & Marlene Vanderhill (district 4) in the passing of Mark s 95 year-old father, Rev. George Vanderhill. The funeral is scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, October 12 at Pillar Church in Holland. Bob Schoone-Jongen (district 4) continues at the Meijer Heart Center. An infection has been discovered on his heart valve, and doctors are determining how to address this. Last weekend both Mark Stegink and Dick Wilkins (district 6) were released from the hospital and continue their recoveries at home. This past Tuesday Marlene Grayson (district 9) had knee replacement surgery at Blodgett Hospital. She returned home on Thursday and is beginning her recovery well. CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES BIRTHDAYS THIS WEEK: 10/15 Liam Jansen (7!) TLC and CHILDREN S WORSHIP: 2-4 year-olds The Gift of Sun, Moon, and Stars Kim, Sam, Aubrey Kindergarten Abram and Sarai 1 st & 2 nd grade Jesus and the Tax Collectors Worship Center children are encouraged to continue their giving for missions and to bring their offerings for Family Assistance each Sunday. 3 RD 8 TH GRADE SONG TIME: Parents, please encourage your youth to gather in the sanctuary for Song Time today, which begins 5 minutes after the close of the service. The youth will have the wonderful opportunity to sing a few songs before the start of their church school class time each Sunday. 78ERS: See you WEDNESDAY Night, October 14, 7 to 8:30 PM. 6 CYG: Bring a FRIEND and gather in the Catacomb next Sunday night, October 18, 6:30 to 9 PM, for CYG. Thanks to the Brouwers and the Burghgraefs for planning to provide our supper. MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS BLOOD DRIVE: Thank you to the faithful and dedicated persons who gave blood last Wednesday. We at Calvin Church gave nineteen pints. CALVIN YOUTH AND CONGREGATION: Thanks to all who were able to volunteer yesterday at the Feeding America food truck, sponsored by Calvin CRC, at Sigsbee School. We were able to pass out about 5,000 pounds of food which feeds between 100 and 200 households! Today ADULT EDUCATION: Wade Remer shares with us his work with Wycliffe Bible Translators in the Gift in Kind department. Next Sunday ADULT EDUCATION Topic: My Testimony to God s Providential Care. Judy Bode will discuss glimpses of God s care and abundant mercy as she co-founded her non-profit during heart failure, received the gift of a beautiful new heart, filmed RESILIENT, and now presents her documentary at various venues. MISSION PLEDGE CARDS: You received gold pledge cards in your mailboxes. Please place your completed cards in the offering plate this morning or this evening. They may also be turned in to the mission outreach mailbox or the visitors table. Additional copies are on the visitors table. Plan to meet at 8:30 AM tomorrow morning at the Omelette Shoppe in Breton Village. A chair is waiting for you. Friendly participants and good conversation await you. WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY: All women are welcome to join us on Wednesday, October 14 as we study the story of Deborah and Jael in Judges 4. We begin with refreshments and prayer at 9:30 AM. CALVIN CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets Wednesday, October 14 at 4:00 PM in the conference room. HAVE FUN serving or being served on Saturday, October 24 when the deacons host a Fall Cleanup Morning from 9:00-12:00. Calling all deacons and other volunteers to meet at church at 9:00 AM and go out to the homes of members who'd like help with tasks such as leaf-raking. Bring the kids, too make it a family time! There will be refreshments. Dress for the weather and bring gloves and rakes. Church members who would like this help may call their district Care Coordinator or the church office by October 17. Volunteers should also call the church office.

7 MISSIONS ANNOUNCEMENT: When you upgrade your cell phone, Wycliffe Bible Translators can use the proceeds from your old devices to enable people to hear from God in their language for the first time. We will be collecting old cell phones throughout the month of October. Please place them in the box at the information desk. COINS FOR CAMPUS - A FIELD TRIP FUNDRAISER: KidsHope would like to provide an opportunity for kids at Campus School to go on special field trips in the spring, by collecting coins from our congregation throughout this school year! A BIG water bottle will be placed in the atrium for you to drop in your loose change. Bills will be accepted too! Look for the BOTTLE with the sign COINS FOR CAMPUS on it and help us provide some unique experiences for our neighborhood school children. October is FAIR TRADE MONTH which aims to raise awareness of the reasons why fair trade is important, and to promote buying and using socially and commercially sustainable fair trade products in place of commodities which may harm the environment, the economy, communities, and disadvantaged individuals. Come celebrate with us at Global Gifts, th St., and do your part in promoting wise and purposeful shopping! BUTTER BRAIDS IN YOUR FREEZER? It is time to prepare your Butterbraids to make room for more! This great fundraiser for the high school youth summer service trip begins next week. NURSERY SUBSTITUTIONS: Our nursery is staffed by volunteers consisting of one supervisor, two adult volunteers, and two youth volunteers. When making adult substitutions, please replace adults with adults 18 and older. Reminder notifications are sent via , and a master schedule is available for reference in the nursery or in the office. Thanks for keeping our children safe! REVIEW REMINDER: Every volunteer at Calvin CRC is expected to review the written Health, Safety, and Abuse-Prevention Policy of Calvin CRC yearly, either through attending a Policy Review session or reading the HSA-P Policy. Policies are available either electronically (contact office or Char Bulthuis) or in hard copy located on the information desk and in office. Many thanks for your efforts in keeping our church safe. REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS Grace Christian Reformed Church will be hosting a service Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 PM, coinciding with the National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day for those who have experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy or infancy.
