The Chancel banner expresses the Christian belief that in one God there are three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The color green represents spiritual growth during this season of the church year. Thirty-five years ago our heavenly father called our son, brother, and uncle home. The flowers today honor Gregory Lanning s birth. John & Bernie Hedrick and Cindy Lanning Burch Large print resources are available at the information desk. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs prior to the morning worship. K-2 nd : After the Children s Message the Children s Worship ministry meets downstairs until the conclusion of worship. Parents meet their children there following the service. Children s Bulletins are in the holder in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service. An introductory church DVD is available at the Information Desk. All of our ministries are described in the colorful folders at the Information Desk near the nurseries. Paul Kortenhoven, retired Christian Reformed missionary in Sierra Leone, is preaching from Acts 17:1-15, "Turning the World Upside Down." Our Sanctuary Choir leads us in worship, and our offering is for Mission Outreach. Evening worship: The Evangelism Committee hosts a meal in the Fellowship Hall as part of our 5:00 worship service. We are joined by Fuller Ave CRC and representatives from Campus Elementary School as we celebrate the ministry of KidsHope USA and pray for our local public elementary school. Plan to come! A meal and nursery care is provided you need only bring yourself! Our offering is for Eastown Ministries. WORSHIP Next Sunday, February 15 Morning worship: Rev. Bob Koornneef will preach and the Allegro Ringers will lead us in ministry of music. Our offering will be for Ministry Fund. Evening worship: Our Sanctuary Choir joins with Woodlawn CRC s choir for Who is My Neighbor A Hymn Festival featuring the art of Steve Prince at 5:00 PM in the Calvin College Chapel. This was originally scheduled for February 1 but cancelled due to poor weather. We are blessed to still be able to worship together under the leadership of these choirs on February 15. Ash Wednesday, February 18 Morning: For those who desire to begin Ash Wednesday with the traditional morning service, there will be a service with the imposition of ashes offered at First CRC, 670 Franklin SE at 7:00 AM.

5 Evening: Calvin Church will host a 7:00 PM worship service with our Covenant and Cherub choirs, Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys offering a meditation, and the imposition of ashes to all who desire. CHURCH FAMILY Marilyn Brumels (District #10) was able to return to her home Wednesday, February 4. Gord Bordewyk Sr. (District #6) hopes to go home this week. Thank you, church family, for your steadfast kindness to my family. From generously gifting Nikolai with baby things, to car and home repair, bandaging me, sending over food, and replacing wages lost due to health needs, you have helped us through an unusually tough year. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being so very good. We get to jump for an hour at Sky Zone, and then we will travel to Culver s for a treat. Parents can drop you off at Sky Zone at 6:15 PM. They may pick you up at Culver s at 8:30 PM. Cost is $10 for the evening. Note the change of date from original schedule. CYG: See you tonight at 6:30, following the evening service and sandwich supper provided by our Kids Hope ministry. Snacks will be provided, but please eat supper before you come. Thanks to Sam Koeman for sharing devotions and a birthday snack. BROOMBALL: CYG, please join us for an evening of pizza and then broomball at Eagles Ice Arena THIS Friday night, February 13. Please meet at Pizza Hut on 28 th by Woodland Mall at 8:15 PM. At 9:15 PM the leaders will then transport you to Eagles Ice Arena for a game of broomball at 9:30 PM. Parents can pick you up at 10:30 PM from the arena.

6 MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS FAMILY ASSISTANCE: The new Family Assistance Center was open for the first time this past Tuesday, February 3. It was a joyous, outstanding day. Everything worked exactly as it had been planned so carefully and for so long! The team filled orders and completed other tasks in record time. We washed and dried a load of jackets. It was fun when as we looked around and realized that twice the work was done in less time and no one was tired or hurting someplace. After the team left for the afternoon, two caseworkers came in at different times. They picked up their orders and asked to look around. Viewing a few of the rows of clothing stacked neatly, the boots in cubbies, winter jackets at the ready, shoes, girls dresses, and baby clothes, each had the identical response: tears. Praise God! Thank you, for empowering this ministry! Today ADULT EDUCATION: Our speaker, Rev. Carl Bosma, in his message for our October 2014 Mission Emphasis Week worship service, described signs of a healthy, missional church. For his mission courses at Calvin Seminary, Dr. Bosma plans a two-day visit for his students at the Kensington Church in Detroit. He will highlight for us the basic Biblical principles which this church follows in fulfilling the great commission in their neighborhood and around the world. We will find his presentation to be extremely relevant for our congregation, as we prayerfully seek ways to be an ever more healthy church. Next Sunday ADULT EDUCATION: As a dearly loved and long-term fellow member of Calvin Church, Thea VanHalsema will invite us to reflect with her on the dependable leading and love of our Lord in the context of relentless change. She will reflect on the impact of technological, cultural, political and religious changes on the sustainable peace that provides us a rock in the rapids. We will learn from her involvement in the life of Christ s church worldwide how Christ, the Rock, provides firm faith in troubled times. BUTTER BRAID FUNDRAISER: Delicious and easy Butter Braids are available to order beginning today. The sale goes through February 23, with delivery March 8, in plenty of time for Easter. The frozen braids sell for $13 each, and serve 6 to 8 persons. The youth group earns $5.50 for each Butter Braid sold. They can be ordered by turning the order form slip into Char or the office, or by ordering from the signup sheet in the Atrium. THE COMMUNITY CARE/SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE will meet today at 3:45 PM in the Conference room. CALVIN FRIENDSHIP BREAKFAST: All 50+ members are invited to enjoy breakfast at The Omelette Shoppe in Breton Village tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM and order breakfast off the menu. This is a scheduled event the second Monday every month. A warm welcome awaits you. WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY: Join us on Wednesday, February 11 at 9:30 AM as we study Revelation led by Pastor Rebecca. Study sheets are on the table in the narthex. CANCER SUPPORT GROUP will meet on Wednesday, February 11. WEDNESDAY February 11: A light supper will be provided at church for young adults and their children, especially those involved in Wednesday evening

7 programming. A suggested donation from each family will cover the cost of the meal. Food will be served from 5:00-6:30, and nursery care will be provided from 5:30-7:00. BRUNCH FUNDRAISER: Please join us for a Pancake Brunch Fundraiser next Sunday, February 15, immediately following the morning worship service. The proceeds will benefit the high school youth attending SERVE this summer. FAMILY ASSISTANCE HOUSE: Demolition is being scheduled for the former Family Assistance House. The volunteers have moved all of the clothing from the old building. Some artifacts from the old building have found their way into the new building and are being repurposed. The contractor is stepping through the final approvals for the demolition with the State and the City of Grand Rapids. Asbestos abatement is scheduled for early this week, then the utilities will be turned off, and the demolition can proceed. Once the demolition starts, it will take two to three days for this work. During demolition the north entrance drive will not be accessible. There are a few old children s Sunday room chairs that have been salvaged from the basement, Contact Gord VandenBerg if you interested. SEEKING SOUP MAKERS: We are seeking persons willing to contribute soup to the Soup Supper Fundraiser which will be held on February 25. Please contact Char if you are interested. Thank you! SAVE THE DATE: Our annual youth group Soup Supper fundraiser is coming on Wednesday evening, February 25. It will be combined with our annual Cadet and GEMS Pinewood Derby races. Please plan to join us for a wonderful night of fun and fellowship and delicious soups! GLOBAL GIFTS: Now that Christmas shopping is done, don't forget us for Valentine's Day gifts such as Divine chocolates, beautiful jewelry, and accessories while giving twice!
