Rebecca Jordan Heys preaches from Romans 5:1-11, Not My Deserving. Evening worship: You are invited to a Reformation Day service at Neland Ave. Christian Reformed Church, 5:00 PM. Pastor Joel DeMoor will bring the message. The offering will be for Safe Haven Ministries. Nursery is provided. Join us for a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service. Staff notes: Pastor Rebecca is preaching at the Breton Terrace worship service this evening. WORSHIP Next Sunday, November 6 Morning worship: We will celebrate the sacrament of communion, and we will welcome Rev. Mark VanderWerf to preach from Philippians 3:17-4:1, "Dual Citizens." Rev. VanderWerf is a Bible teacher at Grand Rapids Christian High School. Our offering will be for Inner City Christian Federation. Evening worship: Our biennial Service of Remembrance will be held on this Sunday after All Saints Day. We will remember those from our congregation who have died in the last two years. The Elders will host us for dessert and conversation around tables after the service. Pastor Rebecca will give a meditation on Isaiah 25:6-9, A Mountaintop Promise and Carl Kromminga will give a testimony of knowing God's presence and hope in the midst of loss. Our offering will be for Family Promise.

5 COUNCIL NEWS The Deacons are thankful for the following gifts for the month of September and for the September 2016 year-to-date: Ministry Fund totaled $53,364 compared to budget of $64,616 and September 2015 of $46,805. For the year-to-date 2016, Ministry Fund were $527,963, compared to budget of $630,000 and $544,071 in The deacons prayerfully request your continued support of the Ministry Fund, particularly as we transition into the final quarter of the year. September Community Care totaled $245 for Baxter Community Center, $50 for Family Assistance operations, $668 for Family Promise, $314 for Global Gifts, $191 for Guiding Light Mission, $734 for Holland Home, and $157 for Volunteers In Service. The Deacons are very grateful for the generous hearts of our membership and visitors. We will car pool from Calvin Church and we plan to return to church by 11:30 PM. Parent drivers needed and can play Free of Charge!

6 TLC, WC, AND 3 rd 5th GRADE SUNDAY SCHOOL should continue collecting money for world hunger and remember to bring their Peter Fish next Sunday, November 6. TLC and 3 rd -5 th grade Sunday school can give them to their teachers. WC children, please bring them forward for the children s message. Thank you for your work and prayers to help those who are hungry. 78ERS: Our next meeting is Wednesday night, November 9, at 6:15 to 7:45 PM. Note the time change. We have the opportunity to help out at Family Promise that night! 3 MILE PROJECT: Our middle school combined church event at the 3 MILE Project is scheduled for Saturday, November 12; from 1 to 4 PM. Join us for movies, volleyball, Re-Ball, Gaga Ball and more. Event location is 3050 Walkent DR, NW. Cost is $5. Friends absolutely welcomed! MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS FOOD TRUCK: Thanks to our congregation and the 78ers and CYG students who helped sponsor and pass out food at the Feeding America food truck this past Thursday. Today ADULT EDUCATION: We Have Been Here Before? Historical Perspectives on the Election. Presenter: Robert Schoone-Jongen Every four years since 1789 the United States has elected a president. The campaigns have been both informative and raucous. The candidates have been polarizing. The rhetoric often has been apocalyptic. Sound familiar? So, how does this year s choice compare with elections in the past? Next Sunday ADULT EDUCATION: What you see, why and how it came to be: The History and Significance of the Visual Arts at Calvin Church. Presenter: Mark Vander Hill Learn the ways in which the Visual Arts are used to enhance our worship experience. We will talk about the use and placement of the many visual symbols in the sanctuary, as well as the art collection and changing exhibitions. PLANNING AND VISION COMMITTEE PRAYER: The PVC is gathering for its usual fourth-sunday-of-the-month prayer today. Rather than an open invitation today, however, the PVC is meeting with the 9 th -12 th grade catechism class. The high school students are praying for the work of the PVC and giving input about the work of the PVC and the mission of Calvin Church. 9 th -12 th graders, meet in the Catacomb at 11:30 as usual, and the PVC will meet you there. All Calvin Church members are encouraged to contact members of the PVC for dialogue and prayer. 7 WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY will meet at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, November 2. We will discuss lesson 4, Worship, from Revelation 4-5. DISABILITY CONCERNS COMMITTEE meets Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 PM. COLLEGE & CAREER LUNCH: Young adults, please join us for lunch and a time of fellowship next Sunday, November 6, in the Catacomb. Lunch will go from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM and transportation back to Calvin College will occur both after church, and after the lunch. Take the stairwell near the nursery to the lower level and the Catacomb is the first room on the left. FALL CLEANUP: November 19 is the Saturday we rake leaves for church members who are in need of help. If you need this service or can help do it for others, please call the church office or your deacon.
