2 LOVE GOD FAREWELL Karl Rahner wrote the following words: The priest is not an angel sent from heaven. He is a man, member of the Church, a Christian. Remaining man and Christian, he begins to speak to you the Word of God For must not some one of us say something about God, about eternal life, about the majesty of grace in our sanctified being; must not some one of us speak of sin, of the judgment and mercy of God? Being a priest among you has been both challenging and consoling. The Word of God is always new and yet eternal. It is in the newness of God s Word that I have found its challenge, first for me and second for you. It is also in His Word we both have found consolation and hope as it has sustained us in the journey we have shared together. In the gospel Jesus asked the question, Who are my mother and my brothers? Looking around at those seated with Him Jesus said, Here are my mother and my brothers. You have been family to me and together we have realized we are one family. Families are centers of nourishment, of shaping, of challenging and of affirming. You have been all of this for me and my prayer is that I hope I have been that for you. This is what the word of God has been and will continue to be for both of us. Let us continue to make a home for this word in our lives, our families and in our world. We have made inroads together because we have opened ourselves to the creative power of the Holy Spirit. People have asked me in these months since I announced my retirement: What are you going to miss? To say that I am going to miss Finance Councils meetings, putting together a parish budget and worrying about if contributions will cover it would be a lie. My mother always taught me, Dennis, don t lie. I will miss our sacramental encounters, baptizing your children, celebrating their first reconciliation and first communion. I will miss celebrating the weddings of your grown children, celebrating the sacraments of healing, the Anointing of the Sick and the Sacrament of Reconciliation; encountering the healing presence of the Lord. I was always deeply moved to witness how the healing presence of Jesus touched your lives. I will miss little children looking up and asking, Are you God? I always tell them, No, I only work for Him. Their question touches me deeply and reminds me who I am really working for. I have come to a deeper awareness that we truly live, move and have our being in God. God keeps us in touch with each other and also with our loved ones who have gone before us. They really are not that far from us. Every time we approach the altar we meet each other in the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ; even if those altars are miles apart. I don t know who wrote the following words, but I suspect it is probably Fr. Jim Kimla as he reflected upon being a pastor. These words say it all: What I am for you terrifies me, what I am with you consoles me. For you, I am pastor but with you I am a Christian. The former is a title of duty, the latter, one of grace. The former is a danger, the latter salvation. Thank you for letting me minister to you. It has been an honor and a privilege. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Dennis COME TO COR JESU! Fr. Their focus is on elementary-age kids, but they need shoes for boys and girls ages 3-18 years. You may drop off pairs of new or very gently-used shoes in the box at the back of church or at the school. The last day to donate shoes will be Sunday, June 17. Please consider joining Coffee and Conversations for Caregivers, a monthly small group discussion for caregivers. Members of the Shorewood Dementia Awareness Work Group facilitate the discussion, covering the ins and outs of care-giving. Caregivers share strategies, concerns, stories and laughter as they navigate an often difficult journey. No need to RSVP ahead of time; attend when you are able! The group meets the first Tuesday of every month from 10:00 to 11:30 am in the Shorewood Village Center (lower level of the Library) 3920 N. Murray Avenue. We welcome you to join our family of faith! WELCOME SIDNEY! YOUTH MINISTRY My name is Sidney Ramaekers and I am from Lincoln, Nebraska. I am passionate about youth ministry because I have a great love for the Lord and His Church. I would like to encounter Christ in the youth; to listen to them, and to learn about what they think about the Church, themselves, and the world. My favorite Saint would have to be St. Francis for a lot of reasons! But particularly because of his great love and zeal for Christ and His love for the Lord present in the Eucharist. The best part about living in Wisconsin so far are the people I have met! It's also awesome all the Marian Shrines here like Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, WI. I also love to travel and hike and see beautiful things! I am looking forward to working with St. Robert and Holy Family because of the great sense of holiness that is so present in the parishes. I can see that prayer is so important to this community and I am glad to be able to serve as a missionary for you this year. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. God Bless!
