4 Worship Notes This morning we celebrate Holy Communion. We welcome visitors in our midst to partake of the Lord s Supper with us if you are a professing member of a church that holds the Bible to be God s infallible Word and if you profess your faith in the triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). This morning s offering has been changed to CRWRC-DRS to assist their efforts in addressing the storm damage in the southern states. See the last page for more information. This evening s offering is for Denominational Ministry Shares supports national and worldwide ministries as designated by Synod. This fund currently supports Back to God Ministries International, Calvin College, Calvin Theological Seminary, Faith Alive Resources, Christian Reformed Home Missions, Christian Reformed World Missions, Specialized Ministries, Denominational Services, The Network, and Special Assistance. Verse of the Week: This week challenge yourself to memorize the whole passage for this morning. Matthew 5:17-20 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. If you did not, please talk to Pastor Craig or Dominique. We will be having a meeting after the morning service on June 5 to talk about Serve. The CWC Annual Art Show will again run in conjunction with the Awards Night on the 19 th and again on the 20 th with the Celebration Concert. The best work of middle school through high school students will be available for viewing from 6:00 PM until the close of each evening. The artwork featured ranges from an App for the IPOD, to children s book illustrations, to a wide range of paintings and drawings. The award winning artwork from the Beaver Dam Art Association Art Show, the 6 th District Congressional Art

6 Show, and the Trailways Conference Art Show will also be celebrated in the show. What a great way to see all the ways that God has blessed our students and CWC! CWC will host our annual Awards Night in the gymnasium on May 19, beginning at 7:00 PM. This is when we recognize the achievements of our high school students. Along with scholarship winners, awards of honor roll, citizenship, some co-curricular, and a number of academic department awards are given. All students freshmen through seniors are encouraged to attend. What a year we have had in the CWC Music Department! We invite you to celebrate with us God s blessings at our Celebration Concert, Friday, May 20 at the high school gym. We will be starting at 6:30 PM. Featured will be the High School Band, Junior Choir, Senior Choir, New Generation Singers, and State Solo and Ensemble participants. A freewill offering will be taken to help us meet our budget for the year. Please join us for this special evening. Community Happenings You won t want to miss the Freedom Singers on Thursday, May 19. They will be at Central Wisconsin Christian School s secondary campus (301 Fox Lake Road, Waupun) at 1:30 PM and Trinity Reformed Church (521 S. Madison St., Waupun) at 7:00 PM. Determined to escape to freedom, Simon and Wesley faced danger and hardship fleeing from Romania to Italy. They now share their music and testimony in the hope that those who listen will be spiritually enriched as they give praise to God for His guidance and for His abundant grace. All are invited to attend. A free-will offering will be taken during the evening performance. Requests Charlene Miller s daughter, Julie, who was diagnosed with a brain disease and Julie s son, Kyle, who has an eye disease that could cause blindness. 9 CRWRC Addresses Destruction from U.S. Tornado Outbreak As search and rescue teams carefully sift through debris left by a massive tornado outbreak in the east central U.S., the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) is broadening its Spring Storms 2011 response to include the widespread devastation that has so far killed more than 230 people in five states this week. CRWRC Disaster Response Services (DRS) dispatched regional managers and a Rapid Response Team to Sanford, North Carolina, 60 miles southwest of Raleigh, to begin early assessments, clean up, and initial repairs from a previous storm system which brought heavy rain, tornadoes, lightening, and hail that caused flash flooding, power outages, and destroyed dozens of homes. CRWRC-DRS has worked in numerous southern communities over the years helping them recover from hurricanes and tornadoes, says DRS director Bill Adams. The destruction from last night s tornado outbreak in Alabama, however, rivals the worst we have seen in years. We are now developing plans for a long-term commitment to those who are affected. Working in concert with local and national disaster response organizations, regional managers Len and Carrie Blauwkamp, and team leaders Doug Van Der Meulen and Terry Reimink, are exploring arrangements for additional volunteers to continue to address clean-up and roofing needs, provide emotional and spiritual support, and coordinate planning for the longer-term response. While these leaders planned to be in the Raleigh area until May 7, the end date will likely be extended, Adams says, because of this week s devastation. The outbreak of more than 250 tornadoes across the lower U.S. between Monday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 27, is reported to be one of the most deadly in the last decade. A stagnant severe weather pattern sprouted the storms that hit hard in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. A federal emergency has been declared in Alabama and a half dozen other states. The tornadoes and windstorms destroyed homes and businesses, caused power outages for hundreds of thousands of residents, forced evacuations in several areas, closed roads, shut down public services, and completely flattened towns in the most severely affected areas. Heavy rain has also affected a large portion of the rest of the country, with flooding that has caused state-based emergencies from Kentucky to Ohio and as far north as the Dakotas and Minnesota. The cold, wet weather has delayed the planting season on many farms in the nation s breadbasket. The storm, now heading for the eastern U.S., has spawned tornado warnings from Florida to New York today. CRWRC seeks funding to respond to these and other storms in the coming months.
