Dating brings a flurry of emotions. We start to know the person and soon find that we can't stop thinking about them or wait to see them again. Yet, somewhere along the way we lose that emotional response and soon it becomes more like a rut. God says that He desires a relationship with us that is like the dating process. We continue getting to know Him and our hearts are always focused on Him. Verse of the week: Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Deuteronomy 5:12 This week be in prayer for: - Our country - The newly elected officials - Unity within the church - Covenant CRC in Appleton Give thanks to God for: - Another fruitful harvest - Being the LORD of all - The opportunity to worship together in public

7 THIS WEEK'S CREATION MOMENT Hallucigenia From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised. Psalm 113:3 When a very bizarre animal was first discovered in the Burgess shale of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, scientists literally couldn't tell its head from its tail. In fact, when they reconstructed the worm-like creature, they got it totally wrong. They assembled it upside down and put its head where its tail should be. Even after finally getting it all sorted out, the creature still looks like something you'd see in a hallucination or a nightmare. That's why they called it Hallucigenia. This odd-looking animal was a little over two inches long and had seven pairs of nail-like spines sticking out from its back. On its underside were an equal number of flimsy legs, tipped with claws. And it had a single row of tentacles hanging down from its neck. Using sophisticated imaging technology, scientists learned that the head was actually at the end of a long, tube-like neck. Near the end of the head were two bean-shaped eyes. "Below the eyes, like an almighty grin, sits a ring of teeth," University of Cambridge paleontologist Martin Smith said. With all these various body parts, this is pretty complex for an animal without an ancestor, wouldn't you say? Yes, the Burgess shale and the Cambrian explosion have always been a nightmare for evolutionists. After all, how can such a wide variety of highly complex creatures suddenly pop into existence out of nowhere? If they evolved, what did they evolve from? Ref: "Hallucination? No, this Cambrian period creature was really weird," Digital Journal Science, 6/24/15. Photo: Artist's representation of Hallucigenia. (CC-Attribution-NoDerivs) 2016, Creation Moments. 8 Egypt The Church in Egypt is growing, despite an anticonversion law and extreme persecution by the fundamental Muslim majority. Identity cards not only state physical information, but also religious affiliation. Christians are constantly discriminated against at banks, government institutions, and other business offices. We thirst for more knowledge of the Bible. In Egypt, where illiteracy affects more than 57% of the people, books are in high demand. Books are often passed back and forth between households and shared among neighboring villages. When 230,000 Egyptian schoolchildren, both Muslim and Christian, received 4-color, hardbacked Children s Bibles, communities were buzzing with excitement. These Bibles are not only the child s pride and joy, but that of their whole village! We had a few old Bibles, but they were hard for the people to understand. These Open Doors Bibles have simple language and photos to help with the message, offered an Orthodox priest. Facts Egyptian Christian Coptics, known as Copts, are estimated to make up 10 percent of the country s population. There are approximately 1,100 evangelical churches in Egypt, compared to a population of 71 million people. Cairo, Egypt has the 165 th largest urban population in the world. 90% of the Egyptian population is Muslim. Recently over 170,000 children participated in one of many 10-day summer Christian day camps, where they could learn more about Jesus and the Bible. There is a tremendous thirst and hunger among Egypt s young population to learn about the Jesus of the Bible. Whole families are reached through these day camps. We ve had parents ask if they can come too, so they can teach the whole family about the Bible, shared an underground Bible teacher. In addition to Bible teaching, the children are taught that they are valuable and loved, something they may not have heard before.
