2 January 10th: The Baptism of The Lord FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, An last week announced that a major Religious Goods store was moving out of our diocese. For more than three-quarters of a century, Chiarelli s (in Brooklyn s City Line neighborhood a subsection of East New York) has been a premier one-stop shopping source for religious statues, pictures, medals, books, gifts you name it. They are relocating to 1014 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park, with the same phone number: So many Catholic know this business that it s worth mentioning here. A parishioner observed that the new location might be a more convenient run from our neighborhood than the old location. The website is and the moving notice is posted on our vestibule bulletin board. As we enter the new year, some special dates are now confirmed on our parish calendar. We will be celebrating Confirmation with and at Queen of Angels on Friday, May 20th, 5:00 pm, with Bishop DiMarzio officiating. Our First Communions here at St. Raphael s, which were previously set, will be the same weekend, on Sunday May 22nd at the 11:00 and 12:30 Masses. Our Korean parishioners, as you may know, are marking the 25th year of their Apostolate in Although there will be a series of special events, the main one will be their Anniversary Mass here on the afternoon of Sunday, September 18th. James Massa, the newly ordained Auxiliary Bishop, will be the main celebrant of that liturgy, and will also bless a Korean statue to be installed on parish grounds. It will be another busy year and, hopefully, a year of grace. -Father Jerry Jecewiz YOUTH GROUP MEETS THIS COMING SATURDAY, JAN. 16TH, 6:00 PM, in Michael Brennan Hall. Next Sunday s special collection is to aid the Church in Need, offering assistance to suffering and persecuted Catholic Churches around the world. This is a very timely issue and a very worthy cause.. SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND This weekend s special collection is entitled DIOCESAN MISSION. It helps a limited number of poor missionary dioceses which have appealed to our diocese for assistance. Please note there is no specific, designated envelope in your packet of parish-support envelopes for this purpose. Please lend a hand in this effort this weekend (Jan. 9/10). Thank you.
