2 June 11th: The Most Holy Trinity FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, These are busy times in our parish. After my attending last Saturday s Priesthood Ordination liturgy (about three hours in length!) in the Co-Cathedral in downtown Brooklyn, Sunday arrived with my usual multiple Mass commitments here, plus one additional Mass in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Greenpoint (in connection with our parish s bond with the Catholic Academy there). Then followed a half-dozen adult Confirmations here for Pentecost (see the listing of the newly confirmed elsewhere in this bulletin). Our Pastoral Minister Bogar Casiano did a fine job preparing the candidates. Last Sunday afternoon I concelebrated the First Mass here of newly ordained Father John Pil-koo Hwang, whose vocation was supported and nurtured by our own Korean Martyrs Apostolate. A few dozen priests were on hand most of them concelebrating, others stopping by the Brennan Hall reception afterwards to congratulate Father John. Father John s first priesthood assignment is to St. Robert Bellarmine parish in Bayside, to serve as an associate to the pastor there, Father Gabriel Lee (whom many of you know from Father Gabriel s having once served five or six years as an associate here at St. Raphael s). St. Robert s has a significant English-speaking and Korean-speaking congregation. Father John s First Mass of Thanksgiving here was a joyous celebration. His parents travelled from Korea for the occasion, as did Father Luke Kim, who formerly served our Korean parishioners here. Musically talented Father John himself composed the music for the so-called Ordinary parts of the Mass (Lord, Have Mercy; Gloria; Holy Holy Holy; Lamb of God). I don t think I had ever heard of that initiative before. I ve requested some photos to include here, but they have not come through yet. We ll print them in the next issue of this bulletin. Ditto for a photo and bio of newly arrived (from Korea) Father Kuno Kim, here to serve the Korean Catholics at St. Raphael s. After his 14-hour plane flight from Seoul and the blitz of the Ordination/First Mass/Reception weekend, he is acclimating to the parish and neighborhood, not to mention the recent fickle weather. Welcome, Father Kuno! Kudos to the couples participating in today s group wedding here. If you d like to solemnize your marriage relationship in church (and are free to do so), contact us for more information. A final thought, appropriate for the wedding month of June: Stan says, My wife treats me like I m God. Steve asks, So she worships, honors and obeys you? Rosario y Alabanza: Cada miércoles a las 7:00 pm en el sótano de la rectoría. FORMACION EN LA FE Un programa espiritual (en español) para los niños y las niñas empezando con la edad de 4 años. Viernes de las 7 pm a las 8 pm en el sótano de la rectoría. Todos están invitados a participar. Con la colaboración del apostolado Vino Nuevo. ESTUDIO BIBLICO El programa tiene lugar cada martes a las 7:30 pm, en el sótano de la iglesia.

6 THIS N THAT 1. Next Sunday, June 18th, there will be no 9:45 am Korean Mass on site. It s the occasion of the group s annual Outdoor Mass in a Long Island park. 2. Beginning on the last Friday of June (June 30th), the rectory office will go on its summer schedule, closing on Fridays at 2:00 pm. 3. Thanks to all who prepared, ran and patronized last Sunday s Flea Market. It was the second Market this season where rainfall clipped the last two hours of the event, not allowing those attending the 12:30 to browse fully after Mass. Also, this time, we did not have prepared food available Felix and Rosalba were still recovering from their memorable wedding the week before! But, like General McArthur (and the Terminator), they ll be back! Nonetheless, the parish realized a profit of $977, for which we are grateful. 4. In honor of Trinity Sunday, our choir will sing the St. Patrick Breastplate Hymn during today s 11 am Mass. 5. Congratulations to Shiralyn Munoz, our weekend sacristan. Having just graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School, she s on her way to Pace University-Westchester with the hope majoring in biology/pre-med. 6. Thanks to the Green Valley Marketplace of Sunnyside for a recent donation ($100) to our Food Pantry The remaining dates for the new season are: July 2, August 6, September 10 and October 1. More info to come soon. In doing Spring cleaning, if you discover any useful, nolonger needed items in good condition, please consider donating them, to the parish fundraising table at the Flea Market. We cannot accept appliances, furniture or clothing. Thank you.
