3 The Pastor s Two Cents To Kill A Mockingbird, is a novel about racial prejudice in the American South. It was written by American writer Harper Lee and published It was her only novel and it won the Pulitzer Prize. In To Kill an Mockingbird, Atticus Finch says to his daughter, Scout, You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view--until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. I realize that there is much that we are busy about (Christmas trees, gift giving, cooking and baking, entertaining). However, it is good that we are here not to fulfill an obligation or merely because of tradition, but so we can spend some time remembering the real meaning of this day; the meaning of this season. At Christmas we are asked to explore and contemplate this profound mystery, the mystery of the incarnation, the profound mystery of the eternal God in humility taking on our frail and vulnerable humanity! Only with this as our focal point can Christmas have a lasting impact on our lives. For, while it is important for us to tell the story of the first Christmas, it is not enough for us to remember Jesus birth in Bethlehem centuries ago. No, he wants to be born in us, in our lives, in the church once again. Only if we allow this to happen will this mystery have a lasting impact on our lives. Howard Thurman puts it this way in his poem The Work of Christmas : When the song of the angels is stilled, When the star in the sky is gone, When the kings and princes are home, When the shepherds are back with their flock, The work of Christmas begins: To find the lost, To heal the broken, To feed the hungry, To release the prisoner, To rebuild the nations, To bring peace among brothers & sisters, To make music in the heart. As we celebrate his birth this Christmas may we allow Christ to be reborn in us! Don t forget, The Lord is with you! Fr. Stan

5 Update on the Van for Sr. Stan Project: Many of you may recall Saviour, also known as Xavier, this past summer. Born with cerebral palsy, he was not able to walk. He dragged himself around on his knees. He wanted only to be able to walk and play with the other children. This little boy s captivating smile and incredible personality won the heart of Joan Tucker, a retired nurse. She sponsored a trip for him to fly to Shriner s Hospital in South Carolina to have surgery to correct his legs. He did remarkably well and after intense physical therapy is now walking unassisted! To watch his progress and learn more about the Orphanage and other children, go to Facebook, Sister Stan s Children, Inc. and then to Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 posts to watch specifically about this amazing boy! This is just one of the children at the orphanage, Nazareth Home for God s Children, that Sr. Stan Terese Mario Mumuni runs in Ghana, Africa. We are very close to our goal for purchasing a reliable van to send to Africa. We are looking for a 15 passenger van with less than 25 thousand miles and under 5 years old. Location: St. Ann s Church Dates: Saturday, 12/30 (if needed) Note: Children are welcome to receive the sacrament after 3:30pm., but please realize that from 3:30pm.-4:15pm. other parishioners will be in the mix since that is the normal time the sacrament if offered parish-wide. Sunday Gospel Reflections December 24, Fourth Sunday of Lent Luke 1:26-38 Gospel Summary - The angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will conceive and bear a son, and name him Jesus. Mary does not understand how this can be, and the angel explains that the Holy Spirit will come upon her and the power of the Most High will overshadow her. Gabriel then tells Mary that Elizabeth, too, will bear a son, emphasizing that nothing will be impossible for God. Mary replies, Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word. Reflection for Families - As Christmas nears, what seems most impossible to you? Does it seem, impossible that all the gifts will be bought, wrapped, and under the tree in time for Christmas morning? Does it seem impossible that you will have time to complete the preparations for and cooking of the Christmas meal? Does it seem impossible that family members will get along? Take time to talk to the Lord about these seeming impossibilities. Quietly repeat the promise of the angel Gabriel, nothing will be impossible for God. Bringing the Gospel into your family - Continue the above reflection with your family members. Light the four candles of the Advent wreath and invite each family member to name something that seems impossible - perhaps a difficult task or deadline - that he or she must take care of by Christmas Day. Then pray together the words of the angel Gabriel; Nothing will be impossible for God. Support and encourage each other in the days between today and Christmas Day.
