2 From the Pastor s Pen God of grace, you sent us the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. Fill your church with power, kindle flaming hearts within us, and cause us to proclaim your mighty works, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen. Dear Friends: We have officially made it to summer and the related heat, humidity and thunder storms. I am glad for a/c and cool drinks that make summer tolerable. STEAM Camp is just around the corner (Sunday, 7/8 through Friday, 7/13). Jeremy Melton has organized a great crew of volunteers to receive and guide 100+ children in discovering crea on. From simple slime, to complex book boxes and interes ng point-of-interest maps, our children will hear the biblical examples of crea ve people and events, and then explore their own crea vity. I am glad for the safe arrival of Elaina Marie Oberlin. Let's be in prayer and support Todd and Chris na as they begin their new role as parents. Also Tristan and Sarah Frampton added to their family with Tristan Thomas Frampton II. May God bless our new arrivals and give wisdom to their parents. The beginning of July brings many blessings as new pastorates begin and exis ng appointments take a deep breath for the coming year. I covet your prayers as we begin the search for an accompanist and Chris an Educa on Coordinator. Jeremy Melton has blessed us with beau ful music for the past 3 1/2 years. His talent is beyond measure. When he stepped into the role of Chris an Educa on Coordinator, he met a need of the congrega on and began a new stage in his and Suzie's life. I trust his decision in taking a larger role at Webster Hills UMC, and pray God's blessings upon him and his family. Our Church Council will be searching for two replacements for Jeremy. They need your help to pray for available candidates and to spread the word of the opportuni es. I believe God has the right persons to fill our need. As we grow in our faith and experience the strains of change and transi on, it is vitally important to share our concerns and especially li each other up. There is no opportunity or difficulty that God is not aware of and ready to guide us through. Remember Proverbs 3: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." I look forward to where God is leading us. Connections is published each month. 4 Mission Moment The commitment Wentzville UMC has made to this ministry con nues to thrive! During the past school year we assembled a total of 4,753 bags of weekend food for children from lower-income families who a end Heritage Primary and Elementary, Wentzville Middle School, Lakeview Elementary and Pearce Hall. Each bag contained the following: Milk, hot chocolate, oatmeal, dry cereal, a main dish (canned pasta, box of macaroni and cheese, or peanut bu er and jelly), 2 fruit cups, a can of vegetables and a can of soup, a salty snack and a sweet snack. We also packed 470 breakfasts for Pearce Hall which included juice and a breakfast item, and 720 snack items for Heritage special educa on students. Total bags averaged per week. We are blessed with an awesome group of volunteers who rotate each week for packing and/or delivery. These include church members, our Youth Group and one of the Benedicite Educa on classes. We began working with Opera on Food Search in 2010 and in the fall of 2013 Opera on Backpack became a ministry of our church. As we look forward to our 5th year anniversary as a stand-alone mission, we just want to say thank you for the tremendous support given by our church congrega on. And now it s me to fund a brand new school year. We have a good beginning to get our shelves re-filled, but we need your help to finish the task. Our Sunday Children s Offering in July and August is designated for Opera on Backpack. Thanks for making a vital difference in our community! Shelves were FULL And now they're EMPTY! 4
