It was written by Ester Mary Walker. Blessed are they who understand my faltering step and palsied hand. Blessed are they who know today my ears must strain to catch what they say. Blessed are they who seem to know my eyes are dim and my wits are slow. Blessed are they that looked away when coffee spilled at the table today. Blessed are they with a cheery smile who stop to chat for a little while. Blessed are they who never say, You ve told me that story twice today. Blessed are they who know the ways to bring back memories of yesterdays. Blessed are they who make it known that I m loved, respected and not alone. Blessed are they who know I m at a loss to find the strength to carry the cross. Blessed are they who ease the days of my journey Home in loving ways. We pray daily for all parishioners. We remember daily those who are sick, suffering, and in pain. We pray for all with disease, and those who have no one to help them. You are not forgotten. We remember you daily at the Lord s altar. Your wisdom, your strength, your continual prayers for the human family and for our parish are greatly appreciated. I also believe that we need to remember to be generous. So, I offer the following Generosity Prayer, too. I do not know the author. Dear Lord, You love me so much that You sent your very own Son to save me and to show me the way to heaven! You ask me to love you with all my heart, my mind, and my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. I want to give back to You with strong love, as a good steward, the sacrifice of my time, my abilities, and my material goods. Help me to love others and to love your holy Church. May my sacrifices be joined to Your sacrifice on the cross for the redemption of all and for the progress of your Church. Amen! "Let nothing disturb you; nothing frighten you. All things are passing. God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Nothing is wanting to him who possesses God. God alone suffices." The proposed Kindergarten Income-Based legislation IS NOW LAW, signed in early July by Governor Kasich. If you have a child entering kindergarten this fall that you would like to send to St. Peter s School, the new law includes a scholarship, worth $4,250, that will help Ohio families send their children to the private/parochial school of their choice this fall, following application/acceptance to that private/parochial school. This State of Ohio program will begin this fall with 2,000 scholarships available for students entering kindergarten, and it will grow one grade level every year. The scholarship will be worth $4,250 per year. Families are eligible to apply as long as their household income is 200 percent or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Here are the income limits: KINDERGARTEN INCOME-BASED SCHOLARSHIP FOR FALL 2013 Household Size Family Income 1 $22,340 2 $30,260 3 $38,180 4 $46,100 5 $54,020 6 $61,940 The application process is in place now. In the Mansfield area, any student who just completed 6th grade in a Mansfield City elementary school and would be attending Mansfield Middle School for the school year is eligible to apply. Also, any student who just completed 7th or 8th grade at Mansfield Middle School is eligible to apply. Application to the EdChoice Scholarship Program follows application and admission to St. Peter's School. All locations of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library are sponsoring reading programs for all ages. The elementary program is called, Dig Into Reading! Students entering 6 th grade this fall may participate in the teen program instead, if they choose. But, all students who register for the reading program must complete it to be able to earn incentives. Every child returning to St. Peter s Elementary who finishes a summer reading program gets an out of dress code day for next school year and has the opportunity to earn other prizes as well! Adoption Informational Meeting Catholic Charities is hosting a free Adoption Informational Meeting on August 7 from 5-8 pm. 7 Page Eight St. Peter s Church, Mansfield, Ohio July 21, 2013 Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary LISTEN The first reading tells of the annunciation of the birth of Isaac. It is profoundly mysterious, beginning with the appearance of the three men. This reading illustrates God s active role in our history. The second reading treats a universal experience suffering. Paul sees suffering as the mark of discipleship. He finds joy in the suffering he endures because it is for the sake of the church. Through his preaching he hopes all people will come to accept Christ. The Gospel paints a lovely picture of Jesus at rest among his friends. Luke has placed the incident right after the parable of the Good Samaritan. But lest activism be seen as the only path, we now hear Jesus call to sit quietly and listen to the word of God. We have to be like both of the sisters. Even in our harried and noisy world, there is an insistent call to sit back quietly and listen to Jesus. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION There s a different pace to a summer Sunday, especially on those days when we dream of air conditioning and wave any available paper to stir the air. Yet we persist in gathering, even with so many breaks from the usual routines. We distance ourselves not only from routines, but from schedules and familiar well-worn paths. These are playful days and contemplative days. We see longlost friends and visit almost-forgotten places. We have more leisure than any people before in the history of the world, and we need it because our lives are so care-worn and tiring. More of us walk barefoot and look up at the stars or dip our toes in the lake or sea, sing around campfires, read novels on the beach, and eat comfort food with our fingers. We see how beautiful life can be, and are more aware than usual of how God is always breaking in with signs of love. In Genesis today, Abraham and Sarah practice hospitality to their visitors, who turn out to be God dropping in. During the summer months, God practices hospitality in return, inviting us into a season of celebration. Keeping Sunday holy is a good habit to cultivate in these days when our spirits are especially receptive to God s deep desire for us to know divine love. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
