2 Online Giving and Building Project This past February I was on a family vacation in New Hampshire driving to the airport to pick up mom and dad. I stopped to get gas on the way back, and I was shocked to find my wallet wasn t on me. I must have left it at my sister s house! I had to revert to my high school days and request a loan from the Bank of Dad. Luckily, my account is in good standing. Have you ever accidentally left your wallet/purse at home when you come to church? There s a solution. Starting this June we will be promoting online giving for our cluster parishes. Online giving is a safe and easy way to make your weekly/monthly offering to your parish. This means you can support your home parish no matter where you go for weekend Mass, even if it s storming cats and dogs or you forget your checkbook at home. The other reason we will have this promotion is because of a new contract. Online giving is generally tied to the company that manages your website. When we made a new website, we chose a new company. Because the new company will now handle online giving, we no longer need the contract with the old company which expires July 1. That means anyone who currently gives online will have to re-sign with the new company. We want to help make this as easy as possible, so for the last two weekends in June we will have a table with staff members and finance council members to help you sign up or re-sign after Mass. Stay tuned for more information! Cluster Office Building Update. I formed a building committee with representation from all the parishes to help me navigate the office renovation and chapel building project. Here are the members of the cluster office building: Harry Oubre and Lionel Cola (St James) Glenn Hymel and Casey Amedee (St Philip) Blaise Gravois and Deacon Ricky Oubre (Our Lady of Peace) I am working to get our project approved by the Diocese when I meet with them on June 14. In the meantime, I have an update and two requests. Update: the two citrus trees next to the Our Lady of Peace rectory will be cut down to make way for the new chapel. First request, the wooden fence behind the rectory at Our Lady of Peace (about 100 feet) needs to go. If someone is interested in taking it down and moving it, contact our administrator, Stephen Castille scastille@canecatholics.com or call one of the cluster offices to speak with him. Please clear with us before taking it down. Second, the building project will require many skilled jobs: plumbing, flooring, carpentry, brick laying, electrical work, as well as general contracting. I m inviting skilled tradesmen/contractors who are parishioners to submit their names for consideration. Please submit names to Stephen Castille. Peace, Fr. 4 Mission Priest Next Weekend Treasures from Our Tradition The Piarist Fathers were founded by St. Joseph Calasanctius in Rome in In addition to the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, the Piarists take a fourth vow to educate the youth. They operate between 195 and 200 schools in 32 countries around the world. One of those schools is located in the Appalachian region of eastern Kentucky. We are asking for your support in helping us not only in our educational work in Appalachia but also in our many outreach programs designed to help those living in poverty in the mountains. The three Piarists stationed in eastern Kentucky minister to the Catholics in four counties who number less than 1/2 of 1% of the population. Please be generous next weekend in order to help these Priests further their efforts in support of the people in Appalachia. The Piarist priest will be presiding at all the Masses next weekend. The origins of today's solemnity lie in thirteenth-century Belgium. In those days, people seldom received Holy Communion, and never from the chalice. A nun in a troubled convent, Juliana of Liège, devoted her life to stirring up love for the Eucharist, lobbying for a feast day to honor the Blessed Sacrament with Masses and processions. Juliana may have been inspired by the Ascension Day processions in nearby Bruges. Crusaders brought a treasure home to Bruges from Constantinople in 1204: a reliquary said to contain a cloth from Joseph of Arimathea with which he had helped prepare the body of Jesus for burial. The stain on the cloth was said to be the holy blood itself, and so the people of Bruges built a great basilica to house the relic. Bruges became a great center of pilgrimage because of this treasure, and the procession of the Holy Blood is still one of the greatest festivals in Belgium today. We Are The Body of Christ A Prayerful Celebration of Our Unity in Diversity On the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (The Body and Blood of Our Lord ) on June 3rd at 4:00pm at St. Joseph s Cathedral in Baton Rouge The Racial Harmony Commission of the Diocese of Baton Rouge invites all members of the Diocese to a prayer service of Eucharistic Adoration in which we celebrate the diversity in unity of our local Catholic Church through the Sacrament which signifies that we, though many, are one Body in Christ. Everyone is welcome to come and join in this celebration. A reception will follow in the Cathedral Hall. Royal Priesthood makes us part of a "royal priesthood." Under the new covenant, we are baptized into the common priesthood of Jesus and invited to make a sacrifice of our very selves. God still calls ordained priests to offer the sacrifice of Jesus' Body and Blood every day on our altars. This is a great gift, and the focus of our solemn feast today.
