Thanks to the volunteers who have answered the call to serve the Lord by serving in the office after lunch. Diocese of Houma Thibodaux is 40! The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will joyfully celebrate its 40th Anniversary on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2017, at a 2:00 PM Mass at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales. All of the faithful of the Diocese are invited to participate in this momentous historical milestone in our diocese. A reception will follow the Mass. Please send suggestions/corrections to stbridgetccd@htdiocese.org or stbridgetchurch@htdiocese.org Guidelines for Baptism Prior to baptizing a child, the parents and Godparents must attend a baptismal seminar. The next baptismal seminar will be held June 14, at 6:30 pm in the Annex. Those seeking to baptize a child can complete the registration forms in the church office Monday Friday between 8 am and 3 pm. The office must be made aware of the desire to baptize a child and desire to attend the seminar. The registration form can also be found at the parish website and ed to the parish through the Contact Us link. While the Church only requires one qualified Godparent for a child to be baptized, two Godparents may be chosen, although in this case one must be male and one female. Anyone who is to be a Godparent must meet the qualifications established by the Church, which are as follows. Godparents must have received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and be practicing Catholics, at least 16 years old who lead a life in harmony with the faith. If married, the proposed Godparents must be in a marriage recognized by the Church. If not married, they must not be simulating marriage by living with someone.

In some American dioceses, the Mass is offered every Sunday in more than thirty different languages, including the silent praise of American Sign Language. Fifty years ago, the landscape of liturgy was very different. It was grounded firmly in Latin, which is to the present day still the official language of the Roman Rite. Very few people were fluent in Latin, even though in those days Latin was far more widely studied in school. Nevertheless, almost every Catholic was competent in the responses and chants of Latin since it is not difficult to pronounce. The clergy were normally minimally competent in Latin, since much of seminary education was conducted in that language. When the Second Vatican Council was convened, all of the debate and daily work of the council was to be in Latin. In the first session in 1962, Boston s Cardinal Richard Cushing continually complained about it, and threatened not to return in 1963 if something wasn t done. He convinced the fathers when he rose to speak in fairly fluent Latin in an unforgettable Boston twang. The next year, he returned, but with a simultaneous translation system funded by the people of Boston. 4 Please continue to pray for the success of the Strategic Plan in St. Bridget Parish and the Diocese of Houma Thibodaux. The Strategic Plan will renew parishes and renew the diocese. It will make us disciples of Christ. Please pray for St. Bridget s Strategic Plan Implantation Team which meets twice monthly to pray, discern, and learn more about the plan. The Implementation Team members are Father Simon Peter, Amy Baudoin, Nicholas Billiot, Nina Billiot, Kellie Bishop, Claire Falgout, Mary Louviere, Bernadette Mabile, Mark Olin, Mike Richard, and Sharon Pollet. For more information on the Strategic Plan including guidelines for prayer visit Adoration Chapel News The Adoration Chapel is almost complete. Father Simon Peter is making arrangements for Bishop Fabre to bless the chapel and officially open it soon. Perpetual Adoration means at least one person is praying in the chapel every hour. A perpetual adoration chapel is desired which means it would be opened 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Persons interested in becoming scheduled adorers should contact Bernadette at for more details. Currently, there are no scheduled adorers for the following times: Mondays from 6 pm to 5 am Tuesday Tuesdays from 7 pm to 6 am Wednesday Wednesdays from 8 pm to 5 am Thursday Thursdays from 4 pm to 6 am Friday Fridays from am and from noon on Saturdays and Sundays all day The following day time hours are also opened for adorers to commit to prayer: Tuesday 8 9 am, 12 1 pm, 2 4 pm; Wednesday 9-10 am, noon, 4 5 pm, 6 7 pm; Thursday am, and Friday am. If you cannot commit for an hour, maybe, you could spend some time with Jesus on Saturday or Sunday. Additional adorers are also welcomed for the hours that currently have people praying. We can never have too many people praying. Thanks to all who have helped with the renovations of the Chapel. Many have given time, treasure, and talent. Thanks to all who have volunteered to clean the chapel regularly. Listen, is the Lord calling you to spend time with Him in prayer? Think about it, pray about it, and give it a try. 5 CCD and Youth News VBS NEWS Hero Central God is Our Superhero! Thanks to the parents, catechists, and youth who have given time, treasure, and talent for VBS decorations. The City of God is being built the annex will be transformed! God, our Superhero is alive and well in Schriever! Thanks to all who have donated supplies for the 2017 Vacation Bible School program. Vacation Bible School will be held June 5 9, 2017 from 9 am to noon. Students entering Kindergarten 6th grade are welcome to attend. Registration forms for VBS are available at the main entrance of the church. Registration fees are $12 per day or $50 for the week. Please contact Bernadette with questions or if fees are an issue; sponsors may be available to help defer the cost of attendance. CCD News Thanks to all who give their time and talent to the CCD program. We are in need of teachers and helpers for grades Adults volunteering to help will be trained. The commitment is Monday evenings from 6:15 8:15 pm. The reward is heavenly! Please pray about becoming a member of the best CCD team in the diocese. Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Annex. The organization is open to all men aged 18 and above. Please prayerfully consider joining the parish organization and serving the Lord. The next meeting is June 28th at 7pm. CDA & KC News Thanks to all who helped with the rummage sale in any way. The sale was successful due to your donations, time, talent, and energy. It is by the grace of God that we are able to form community and help those less fortunate with this event. Diocesan Award Winners Reception June 11 Congratulations to Katherine Miller and Robert Oncale for being named St. Bridget s recipients of the Diocesan Volunteer Awards for Both have served the parish in various capacities over the years. Congratulations to Maggie Ledet and Beth Olin for being named the St. Bridget recipients of the Diocesan Youth Leadership Awards. A reception will be held in honor of these volunteers next Sunday, June 11 th following the 10:30 am Mass. All are invited to help honor these remarkable parishioners as well as build community and fellowship with your friends and neighbors in Christ. Weekly Activities Come Lord Jesus a scripture study focusing on the weekly gospel is held in the kitchen of Didier Hall on Mondays from 9:30 11 am. All are welcome. Contact Dianne Williams at for more information. The Seven Sorrows Rosary is prayed every Friday at noon in the Adoration Chapel. Praying the rosary helps recall the seven sorrows suffered by Mary during the life and death of Jesus. All are invited to join in this experience.

St. Bridget will host a Matthew 25 training soon. Please pray about serving others in the time of a disaster. Volunteers are needed to serve on the Matthew 25 committee. SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the disciples, Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that, while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Jesus post-resurrection promise, recounted in today s Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus followers. Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in some way, are given gifts of the Holy Spirit, gifts that can be used to spread the Good News. Today is one of the Church s greatest festivals. Let us carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week: Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth! (Psalm 104:30). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
