Deacon Jim Goerend! Please join me in welcoming Deacon Jim Goerend a seminarian of the Archdiocese who was ordained a Transitional Deacon by Archbishop Jackels on Friday, May 25th at St. Raphael Cathedral, Dubuque. Deacon Jim has been assigned a summer internship here at St. Cecilia by the Archbishop. Jim arrived here this past Wednesday, May 30th and will be with us until July 31st as part of his continuing formation process prior to Ordination to the Priesthood in May, Goldilocks and Air Conditioning. When it comes to air-conditioning in church, my years as pastor reads like the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." Like the porridge in the fable, when it comes to air conditioning it's either, "too hot"; "too cold"; or "just right". If you happen to sit near an air vent and don't like cold air blowing down on you, you will need to move to another spot, or consider wearing a light jacket or sweater. The same if you feel the temperature is too cool. We have to set a basic temperature that, while not overly cool, both cools the building when empty and also is able to keep the building comfortable when filled with people. Thank you. The date and time of the celebration must be scheduled only with a priest or deacon of the parish. The couple must contact a priest or deacon of the parish preferably one year prior to the desired wedding date, but no less than six months prior to their desired date. The St. Cecilia Wedding Guidelines 2018, is available from the Parish Office and on our website. This contains additional information and guidelines. Becoming Catholic Those interested in learning about Jesus and the Catholic faith, or becoming a Catholic Christian themselves, are encouraged to contact Jarrett Wendt: rcia@stceciliaparish.org or Your journey will be highly personalized and can begin as early as tomorrow! Adult Catholics seeking Confirmation are welcome as well. Parishioners: Do you know anybody who is thinking about becoming Catholic? A great info resource is code: a12562 Baptism Parents seeking baptism for their child are expected to attend a preparation session. Parents are recommended to attend a session prior to the birth of their child. Next Session of Baptism: Preparation for the first born child is Monday, June 25 at 7pm. Are you new to St. Cecilia s, moving back, just married, attending Mass but never officially registered? If you have not officially registered at St. Cecilia s, stop by the new member registration table after Masses next weekend. We can answer your questions and help you with the registration process. We will be moving the Library from the Education Center to the Oscar Romero Room on Saturday, June 9 (first shift is 9am 11am; second shift is 1pm to 3pm). We will need lots of strong arms and backs to help move the book shelves and boxes of books. To help, please see the sign-up below. We need boxes to transport books safely. If you have any to give or loan us, please drop them off in the office anytime before June 1. Also, if you have a truck to bring to help with that day, please let Mrs. Simodynes know, or note that when you sign up so we have an idea of how many vehicles we will have. 4 PRAYER & THOUGHT Stewardship: The bishops stewardship pastoral asks, And what do Christians bring to the Eucharistic celebration and join with Jesus offering? The answer: Their lives as Christian disciples; their personal vocations and the stewardship they have exercised regarding them; their individual contributions to the great work of restoring all things in Christ. Marriage Corner: Take it; this is my body...this is my blood of the covenant. (Mk 14:22,24) How do your own family rituals at dinnertime and around the family table reflect the Eucharist? How can we be Eucharist to one another? How can we bring the Eucharist from our church into our homes, and into the world? As a reminder: Parishioners who have prepared salads or desserts for funeral lunches may pick up their empty containers in the ushers room. Thank you to everyone who helps with these lunches. Faith Formation Registration: Registration for classes will begin July 1. Check on the Faith Formation Registration page on the parish website. Sundae Bible Study: June 6, 7-8:30pm. June 3: Corpus Christi Procession after 10:30am Mass. June 12: The Days for Girls meeting is cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. June 14: Catholic Daughters will meet on Thursday in the Social Hall South at 6pm to present a scholarship to a young woman entering higher education. June 14: Knights of Columbus (Council) will meet in the Social Hall North at 6pm. Many parishioners make contributions outside the parish because we have not asked them for their help. Bequests to the parish, gifts of real estate, life insurance, stocks, bonds, and CDs can help perpetuate your faith commitment.
