2 Along for the Ride Summer is frequently a time when families travel. I read in the newspaper that the New Orleans airport gets the highest volume of travelers in May and June, and they re building more parking spaces to accommodate the peak travel time. I m thinking about summer travel because I wrote this bulletin article in the back seat of a car. A few staff members and I went to Baton Rouge last week for a day to hear about resources for parishes. Because I have done office work when I m taking an airplane, why can t I do the same in a car? One thing I enjoy about sitting in the back seat is I get to enjoy the scenery passing by. Have you ever thought about the beauty of the wetlands in the area? When I m driving I don t get to focus on the trees and the moss and the birds in the land along the road. Now that I m a passenger I get to appreciate the beauty of it all. I see the birds on the power lines, the turtle risking his life to cross the road, and the red-wing blackbird who made an opportune perch out of a weedy plant. Perhaps a lesson for me is that summer is a time for traveling, but it s also a time to appreciate and enjoy life. I appreciate the fact that this car is nicely air conditioned. I appreciate my staff and parishioners who are so helpful and supportive. Because our schedules take us here, there and everywhere, Fr. Brad and I have to pencil in hangout time on our calendars to see each other some days. The other night I scheduled an evening for Fr. Brad and I to have a beer together; I appreciate a cold beer with a friend. I appreciate that parishioners still come to Mass on the weekends. In a world where it s easy to skip Mass for no good reason, so many parishioners are still coming. I appreciate that the Lord is speaking in so many hearts to know and love Him. I appreciate the new faces at Mass of people visiting with family or others who are coming back. What do you appreciate in these summer months? My mom and dad have had grandparent duty in Houston and Hanover, NH these weeks of summer. Do you appreciate the grandkids coming over a little more frequently? If you re a younger reader, do you appreciate the unscheduled time and change of pace, the excitement of summer camps? If nothing else, do you appreciate the blessing of air conditioning? With so much wrong in the world, there is still a lot of what s right. Thank you, Lord, for an abundance of your blessings! Peace, Fr. 4 Matthew: The King and His Kingdom Join us for Matthew: The King and His Kingdom at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church beginning August 13, 2018 at 9:15 am and continuing every other Monday. For more information, to register for the study or purchase a workbook call the OLOP church office at or June Waguespack at The workbook contains session summaries, home reading assignments, engaging study questions, talk notes for the video presentations, as well as helpful maps, charts, and diagrams. In preparation for each session you will be asked to read 1 or 2 chapters from the Gospel of Matthew. The sessions will consist of opening and closing prayers, watching a video presentation by Jeff Cavins followed by discussion. This exciting Catholic Bible Study Program explores the life and mission of Jesus as recorded in the Gospel. You will come to see Jesus as the awaited Messiah who fulfills the promises and prophecies of the Old Testament and discover what his life and teachings mean for us today. Crossroads Baby Bottle Fundraiser Our cluster parishes will be participating in a Baby Bottle Fundraiser on July 21st & 22nd to help support Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center. Crossroads, located in Thibodaux, is a life-affirming Christian organization serving women struggling with an unexpected pregnancy who may be considering abortion. Founded in 2002 by Bishop Oscar Solis and a St. Joseph parishioner, Crossroads has helped over 2,800 women and men in Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, Saint James and Saint Mary parishes. Crossroads does not provide abortions nor do they give referrals for abortions. This is a joint project sponsored by Court St Philip and Court Notre Dame de la Paix and will occur at all three parishes.
